David Pack was a beast.!!!!
One of the most underrated vocalists
I agree!
Vocal riffs on point and the sax interlude. This guy is correct. This song is fire🔥
Yeah, he could go 😊
People sleep on the whole 'Yacht Rock' genre of music, but these songs always, ALWAYS hit! So glad I was a music child of the 70s and 80s! Really glad to see you young guys finding and enjoying these songs 🙂
"Baby Come Back" from Player....yacht rock fire!🔥
I’ve never even heard that term before and I’m in my 50s and been listening to Ambrosia since 70s so I’m really confused lol! Explain pls
@@lesleyd2448 Rock, in general, is a middle finger to The Man and The Establishment. When you are well off enough to own a yacht, what do you have to protest against? On what basis should the music sound menacing or threatening? Yacht Rock therefore in general is non-threatening, smooth, comforting, melodic, orderly and pleasing to the senses. Bon voyage!
@@Vaelsung1 Yes!!!! They would LOVE that song!!!!!.
SiriusXM had a Yacht Rock channel for a while and besides Howard Stern, it was my most listened to channel.
Yacht Rock was a DERISIVE term used to make fun of the these types of artists, but the sound has stood the test of time.
Some of the best songs of the time.
"Holdin' On To Yesterday" is another great one by them.
Holdin on is more progressive than their later hits still a great song
EXCELLENT SONG!!!!
My Fav from them
Yes. That was a great song.
Yes, "Holdin' On..." is easily my favorite Ambrosia song.
So good! Total Fire!! David Pack... What an AMAZING voice and talent! Love Ambrosia! Thank you, guys for playing The Biggest Part Of Me!
These guys were HUGE at the time and so was the song! This genre was big and popular. This was called Soft Rock or Adult Contemporary Rock (although it's not contemporary now). Radio stations identified themselves as these types of station. It was renamed Yacht Rock not long ago by some social media guys but I generally ignore that term because it really narrows the breadth of the audience whose lives this music was a big part of. I might also say that these guys fit the "Blue Eyed Soul" category.
I was a teen at the time this came out and these songs of the 70s and 80s taught me how to communicate these feelings to someone. I've heard young guys at work say they really like these songs and that they wish they knew how to talk to their significant others like this.
"How Much I Feel" and "You're The Only Woman" are other big Ambrosia hits. But if you'd like to hear a different side of Ambrosia, check out "Nice, Nice, Very Nice." It always makes me feel like I'm about to relax and light up a fat doobie. And I don't even smoke the Mary Jane at all. LOL
70’s were a great time for music. Soft Rock, Classic Rock, Soul, Country, Disco and beginning of New Wave. So much variety.
This is so good. The musicianship here is off the charts especially the sax solo. The vocal is second to none. Back then when music was done by talented artists.
Ambrosia was takin' us to "CHURCH " with that Hammond IV organ at the end of the song!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
I grew up in the 70s and loved soft rock as well as Zeppelin and danced till we dropped to disco music. We were blessed and music crazy back then!
Exactly 👏👏👏
One of my top 5 songs! I love David Pack's smooth voice! Yay!
Three yacht rock songs that come to mind for me, are Key Largo by Bertie Higgins, Summer Breeze by Seals and Croft. Also, Sailing by Christopher Cross. All Fire!
Ambrosia really started out as more of a "Progressive Rock" outfit. "Holding on to Yesterday" from the band's first album shows off their "Prog" leanings, but also showcases the vocal and instrumental prowess of the group.
when that started there was a lot of smiling faces!
Ambrosia knocked it out the park with this song...😊
David Packs vocals and writing was next level! The harmonies are SICK too!
A couple fun facts. David Pack, the one on the left is 100% deaf in one ear, since 1977. This song "Biggest Part Of Me" in an interview , he explained he wrote the chords/melody and most of the lyrics in between 10-15 minutes. He was going to a 4th of July party in 1979. He was in his car, his family was taking too long. He realized he left his gear on in his studio, went back in, sat down at the piano for some reason, chords popped out and the rest is history. What a voice on this guy!
You gotta hand it to the engineers who recorded this gem. So well produced.
I was 16 when this song hit the waves, and was digging it just like you cats!
Ambrosia, a first-rate band all around. They had a great prog start and finished with a great run of blue eyed soul and pop...yes, Yacht Rock at its finest.
I think what you guys really like is what Black folks call "Blue-Eyed Soul". Greatest male singer, Michael McDonald. Greatest female singer, Teena Marie. Greatest group, Hall & Oates. Greatest song, Holding Back the Years. I hadn't heard the term Yacht Rock till the 2000s.
Try I Keep Holding On. Early years for them. So many hits to choose from and all are great!
Cindy, yes a masterpiece!
70’s soft rock is just amazing. Poco, Firefall, LRB, Exile, so many more.
Rock On David!🌻🌻🌻
Criminally underrated group. Soulful Yacht Rock at its absolute best.
Top-notch musicianship, glorious vocal harmonies, great RnB infused pop-rock. Call it any way you want, these guys were/are amazing and this tune in particular has stood the test of time. Chek out any live version of this
Wife Speaking...Yes, soft rock is very middle of the road, non offensive.., but is often times "jazz influenced " and Beautifully arranged Instrumentally...This is the music of my very very early childhood and I still "Love it"
Their song Holding On to Yesterday is fantastic! The guitar on that song will give you chills!
R and B. I love Ambrosia! It's R&B!!!
Gents this is one of the grooviest soft rock sounds that ambrosia are known for, so many good tracks..
This group is so great they only need 5 albums...they can tour around and play the music of these songs any day...any time, especially for me.
There are probably more random songs that are considered “Yacht Rock” than there are artists whose work completely fits that bill. But here goes: Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Toto, Orleans, Hall & Oates, Pablo Cruise, Seals & Crofts, Firefall and England Dan & John Ford Coley.
You nailed the definition of Yacht Rock, it’s smooth, breezy and very chill 😊
Real Musicians And Singers No auto tune recorded by the best engineers songs that will last the test of time
Sonic sheen.
Great list! Al Stewart’s music in the mid to late 70s fits as well
I consider "Yacht Rock" a derogatory term by so called critics that does a disservice to talented artists and great music.
best music...YES, Firefall!
Benny Mardones “ into the night “ , was a one hit wonder for him. I know you guys will love this gem.
Junior walker "what does it take" great saxophone play.
Reminds me of high school days. Fabulous song! “What does it take to win your love for me?”Ryan would love the saxophone. Jr Walker and the All stars! Look them up! That song came out in 1968. It was played at my senior prom in 1969.
Man I gotta tell ya I LOVE 🥰 LOVE 🥰 LOVE 🥰 this song. Talk about another instant flashback to my very early 20’s and some truly great music. I close my eyes and just smile…. 😎
David Pack, definitely one of the best vocalist in my opinion. There is a song that David put on a solo album with Michael McDonald and the late, great James Ingram called I Just Can't Let Go. The great Quincy Jones called these three the other holy trinity because of their heavenly voices. My favorite Ambrosia song is definitely How Much I Feel. Check 'em out. You won't be sorry.
@15:30 -- that's the truth. There were so many good songs back then that we couldn't buy all the albums or all of the 45's (singles). So there's a lot of really good songs that never got as high as you think they would have. The talent on the radio back then was all over the place, covering many genres. It's a blast to see other people discover it.
The 70s vibes are real! Thanks for the trip back to my teens! Soft rock/yacht rock are the same.
These were just the songs on the radio growing up that I've come to love.
You're The Only Woman is also 🔥
That whole album was on fire!
Love That One!!
Holding on to yesterday is good you would enjoy it for sure.
My favorite 70's songs Ambrosia' Biggest Part of Me' etc till 2023 . Thanks guys for your RV and uploading .
This band is DOPE! I play their music so much that my kids get tired of hearing them! Straight 🔥 🔥 🔥
This song was huge at the time and can still be heard on oldies stations which I'm sure you guys don't listen to because of the nature where people listen to music now. In the 80's here in Cincinnati we had Yes95 that would play Two for Tuesday and Three for Thursday. Ambrosia was constantly on it. Other songs they played; "Holdin' On To Yesterday," "How Much I Feel," and "You're The Only Woman."
Yacht rock is soft rock.
Yeah, soft rock/yacht rock are the same. It's chill music laying back on a lounge and sipping on a mimosa. Check these out by Ambrosia.
1. How Much I Feel
2. You’re the Only Woman
3. Holdin’ on to Yesterday
You guys keep bringing out incredible music. These guys are great.
Love Love this band and this song!!
The “ Soft Rock “ era was unofficially for the mid 70’s to the mid 80’s , a period of time in music where so many great singers and songwriters hit together with great musicians and made great songs about love and life , because back then no matter what you sang , rock, pop, funk, soul, or country,( or jazz even ) , you had to make slow grooves about love and relationships, it was a part of everyone’s life, and unlike today, there was so many guys that wanted to put their feeling about the woman that they loved ( or lost) in a song. It it was so relatable because everyone went through it. If not love, they just made songs about life in general, with simple lyrics and simple arrangements that anyone could understand . Any new songs like that today aren’t very popular sadly…
“they” say Steely Dan is yacht rock too. I beg to differ😂
You guys have a great honest take on the music... appreciate your openness to the old music.
Real Musicians And Singers No auto tune recorded by the best engineers…songs that will last the test of time are from the 70’s and 80’s
“You’re the only woman” is their best and smoothest jam. It’s awesome! Give it a listen
I was 15 when this song came out. Ambrosia was a very underrated group
Such an amazing song, I'm so glad you appreciate it. I wish you could feel the nostalgia that I feel when I hear it. I just drift away to a much better time.
Dive deep gentlemen...yes, this was baby making music back in my day!!😎🎶 How Much I Feel and You're The Only Woman should be next!!🎶🎸
*You're the Only Woman* , *How Much I Feel* , 2 masterpieces from AMBROSIA
Another great song by a super sounding group with great harmonies and a super lead singer David Pack. " How Much I Feel " still my favorite by them. Even the 1972 group Captain Beyond" likes a soft rock sound occasionally.
As a guy of North 56 I'm glad that you underguys can appreciate the music that us old guys used to listen to with our old ladies back in the day Keep on rocking fellas
“Michael McDonaldy” 😂 Ambrosia is straight up 🔥
This was on the radio all during my youth, grew up in the 70s and 80's so lucky, still love this music.
I think you nailed it about the neutral nature of yacht rock. The thing I've noticed watching reaction vids to songs I grew up with is how really good many of them are, musically. These songs were the tapestry of our lives, I never really noticed the arrangements much when they were hits.
Classic soft rock. Gotta love it. (I think it’s time for you guys to hit some really great one-hit wonders...maybe “Vehicle” by Ides of March or “Me and Mrs Jones” by Billy Paul.)
I'm 59 so in 1980 this song was all over radio. Soft rock stations or contemporary pop stations. But new music was emerging as disco was fading new dance music was coming in funk r&b and hip hop. Then heavy metal bands were also Killin it during the early 80s. Classic rockers like the stones and Aerosmith and led zeppelin were still going strong. So you had metal, dance and soft rock all going on in the early 80s.
You guys should redo the cover!!! That would be hilarious 😂
More, more!! I like many different genres of music such as/ including soft rock ❤️ Ambrosia " How much I feel" ❤️ Player "Baby come back!" ❤️ Alicia Keys "I wanna rock wu" ❤️ April Wine "I like to Rock"
Steve Winwood “Talking Back to the Night” AWESOME SAX.
Im 59 and have loved this song for years! I never get tired of it!
Such a timeless song. Whether you call it soft rock or yacht rock, it's just good music. This song was big in the day and gets better as time rolls on. Another artist worth checking out is Patrice Rushen. She grew up a musical prodigy. I highly suggest her song "Remind Me". Enjoyed this!
There are times for hard rock, time for classic rock and definitely times for yacht rock!
This band was huge when they came out.
How can anyone not like soft rock. Its just chill and mellow. Its a vibe. And everyone wants to be relaxed. And thats why, in the time, it was big. Because remember alot of people and fans were probably relaxed in their way if ya know what i mean. Then it was get the mood then find the music to fuel the vibe. And the artists wrote that way. Cuz they were that way too. Relaxed chill. Just enjoying the moment.
Yaght Rock 😉. Great song!!!
Here's another band that's similar in style and genre " Little River Band - Just Say That You Love Me (Live)" this band is an Australian band and John Farnham is the lead singer in this performance. He is legendary and considered to be Australian royalty, he has an incredible voice. But the band originally started out with the lead vocalist Glenn Shorrock. This is another harmony band. Although, I heard that he had surgery on his jaw due to cancer, and will no longer be able to sing again. That is so tragic, and my thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. However, we are blessed with so much beautiful music, and we are so grateful. Thank you, Mr. Farnham, 🙏 You guy's get your dancing shoes on and get ready to boogie 💃🕺
🌟🎶😎
Great band. 🎵 Check out How Much I Feel.
I was born in 1962 and Graduated Highschool in 1980. 60s, 70s and 90s are My Favorite Music Decades so far.
Ryan needs some good live Sax!! Check out Boz Scaggs' JoJo live!! You will be JAMMIN'!!
ruclips.net/video/UswVRsJSLlM/видео.html Here is the link.
Ryan is a new convert... Loves the Boz.
Gino Vanelli
This was a groovy sound in the 70s, you can blame Spotify for creating this "genre" 'Yacht Rock'. For the record (no pun intended) the official Billboard category is called "adult contemporary pop/ rock". Ambrosia, Player, and Pablo Cruise, Gino Vannelli mastered the sound mid to late 70s.
I must have listened to this song at least five thousand times and I never realized how really good
It is until now thanks for the reaction guys
Nostalgic sweet sound is what you said and you are so right! This song was an instant hit when it came out amongst a plethora of so many great soft rock songs! It was the era of the singer-songwriter. Songs with a lot of heart and humanity. The majority of the songs told a story, had hope, love, and there was still a sense of purity and innocence in them. It was a simpler time and there was much hope in the air! The songs that mostly play today are oppressive and depressing. “He didn’t love me, she didn’t love, I’m depressed, I’m gonna get you mother*******! Turn off, switch channel! Go back to the 70s. Life is too short to be sad or mad! Watch the video of Ambrosia singing in the Merv Griffin show. It’s a delight to watch!
Exactly! The music back then are full of love , hope and unity. There are no autotunes just real talents coming from the artists during the 70's and 80's. Kudos to bands like Ambrosia, Bread. Little River Band, Hall and Oates etc. who made this genre popular.
Beautiful song! Nothing wrong with soft rock and great melodies, vocals and musicianship. One of my favorite songs ever. "Biggest Part of Me" reached No. 3 on the Billboard pop singles charts and so did Ambrosia's hit "How Much I Feel." You might also like their song "Holdin' On to Yesterday" (No. 17).
I was a sophomore in high school and loved ambrosia they have another hit That's how much I feel.
Watched an interview with David Pack today -- he wrote the entire song in about 15 minutes while waiting for his family to get ready to go on a July 4th outing in 1979. He thought the lyrics could be better - went to his buddy Michael McDonald (yeah, THAT Michael) and asked him to see if he had some suggestions on the lyrics. Michael's response was basically - 'Dude - the lyrics are what's gonna make it a huge hit!' They both nailed it.
Love this group! "Holdin' on to yesterday," my most favorite. You guys are the best. Watch you all the time.
Ty I haven't seen such a wide smile for the whole song in such a long time.
I truly enjoy your reactions to all the songs that I love. Y'all definitely know great music...much respect! I was smiling right along with y'all. FYI you can hear 70's-80's music on the radio. Many stations still have 2 for Tuesdays and Triple Shot Thursdays. Which entails back to back songs of a particular artist or group! In answer to your question, I loved Ambrosia the 1st time I heard them. This coming from a die-hard rock fan. Led Zeppelin, Rush, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, AC/DC are just some of my favorites. From my experience with soft or yacht rock, a lot of us rock fans enjoyed bands like this probably more in secret. Some friends would give you a hard time for listening to soft rock. Please react to Ambrosia again.
You got it! David Pack's a vocal beast! He guest starred in a song titled Ground Zero on the Seeds Of Change album from Kerry Livgren. Livgren was keyboardist for the group Kansas. You will not be disappointed by Pack's vocals. He really soars on Ground Zero.
Ground Zero is a masterpiece. David's vocals are sublime and Kerry's guitar solo is one of his best.
Brings back memories! Love this song! Enjoy you guys! 😉☀️🎸fan from AZ go Suns! 😊🐶🇺🇸🙏
Yacht Rock is what uses to be referred to as adult contemporary or Soft Rock.
Non threatening, smooth, wine cooler.
I was 11 during the summer of 1980, when this came out. Though I liked it then, I think the guys are right-sadly, we didn’t realize just how good this song was, because we just took good music for granted, not realizing we wouldn’t always have it.
Your reactions are right on and deserved by this song. Simply great.
Someone said "yacht rock" started out as an insult. Don't know if that is true. It is a relatively new term. It is soft rock.
We always play this on my yacht. Smooth while you're sailing the Caribbean.
You're the only woman is my favorite but love this one and How much I feel too !!
Yacht rock refers to the soft rock that dominated FM radio airwaves in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Yacht rock is characterized by glossy production, breezy vocals, and bouncy rhythms-all elements thought to evoke relaxing bay cruises in Southern California, where the genre originated. The name “yacht rock” didn't enter the popular imagination until decades after its heyday in the early 1980s. It was a public access comedy show that gave this genre its name, which evokes the breezy marinas of southern California. Its name, coined in 2005 by the makers of the online video series Yacht Rock, was derived from its association with the popular Southern Californian leisure activity of sailing.
Music is music, compartmentalize it into like or not!, It's music, you either love the song, like the song or don't care for it. I like songs from all genres, it's music, it's how it made you feel. Yes, I liked much of what Ambrosia did. It was uplifting music. That is after all why we listen, because it makes us feel good.
Fellas, Ambrosia have great 👍 soft hits. Here are some of their songs 🎶 u guys have to react their live videos. 2)You're The Only Woman 👩 (My Favorite Ambrosia Song); 3)I Just Can't Let Go; 4)How Can You Love ❤ Me; n many more hits. This band reminds me of Air Supply. Checked those other hits.
Finally someone mentioned a song off Road Island
Originally Yacht Rock was known as AOR ( Adult Orientated Rock ) recorded specifically for FM Radio !! That's what I was told by a DJ here in the UK and I Love it ❤
In My younger days, I had the pleasure of playing in a band with Rick Cowling, who replaced the original lead singer. Check out his performance of this song on the Fallon show.
You three have a good chemistry in these reactions. Don’t change.
You really need to also checkout Little River Band. This is another “Yacht Rock” type band you’ll love. So many great songs from this group: Help is On its Way, Lady, Reminiscing, Lonesome Loser just to name a few!
This song was Ambrosia's second biggest hit song in their career. The song peaked at the #3 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1980. This song is a monster hit indeed and the song did played on r&b radio stations across the country in the early 1980s.
