You reversed the direction of wind. During summer Indian subcontinent and Tibetan plateau heats up. So air heats up and rises above creating a low pressure atmosphere. Meanwhile at the same time in southern hemisphere (Indian ocean) its winter time. Therefore cold air from high pressure environment rushes to Indian subcontinent. This wind travels all across huge Indian ocean carrying all the moisture from ocean and enters India. This is called Advancing monsoon(June- September) . This wind flows from South to North. (From ocean to subcontinent) This moisture can't go beyond Himalayas because high mountains act as a barrier. Meanwhile, at the end of September, the subcontinent is cooler as compared to southern hemisphere (because at this time southern hemisphere is in front of sun) . Therefore Indian subcontinent is no longer low pressure zone, rather its slightly high pressure zone as compared to South of Indian ocean. This is why this moisture carrying air retreats back to ocean. This phenomenon is called Retreating Monsoon (October- November). This winds flows from North to South. Retreating Monsoon contain less rain, because most of the moisture are already lost during Advancing monsoon season. Our population is very dependent on this monsoon. But sadly we are witnessing initial days of Climate change. This is resulting to change in rain pattern and unpredictability. Take Tamil Nadu for example, the state was facing drought from 2017. On the other hand, some part of country is facing floods resulting in crop destruction. And untimely monsoon is also an problem, because even if you receive same amount of rain but at different months then its a problem, because each crop has its own season. This why farmer distress is a big political issue.

Hey Benjamin - just a couple of points on the monsoons - the 'monsoon' season for India is only summer - June to August. And contrary to the figure / diagram you showed, its believed to be due to Jet Stream and South Westerly monsoon winds from Arabian Sea bringing rain to Western India - Kerala, Maharashtra, Goa then MP and northwards. It's not so much cold air from Himalayas resulting in condensation over South west India. Places to avoid are - Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand - including North East (Bagdogra to Gangtok and Darjeeling -I know through personal experience). Places to see - Karnataka, Kerala (both subject to the rains), MP and Nilgiris the lush greenery is something to behold. Also to keep away the mosquitoes, two things you should add to your travel kit - one is the spray / ointment - Odomos and the other is the plug-in bug repellant.

Bro... You explained direction of monsoon wrong. First one is from Southwest to north direction. Moisture from indian ocean comes up, got heavy on the top of land and drops during June to September. That was a great video mate, but the facts about the monsoon winds are somewhat mixed up. South west monsoon winds are from Arabian Sea towards Himalayas which gets divided into two branches off the southern peninsula ,one going within western ghats bringing rain for the whole west coast towards Himalayas; other branch through Bay of Bengal towards Bengal and east Khasi hills bringing torrential rain in north east India . Once the south west monsoon fades, the dry cool air from Himalayas are drawn towards the Bay of Bengal which brings moisture from the sea towards Tamilnadu and Andhra coast . These winds are called North east monsoon winds. I appreciate your content brother. Cheers

Will be very much happy if you make a video to explain that pattern mentioned in that song. i.e, why? why was it windy then and why if it was windy then, it would be rainy now? I swear you will not be bored if you search for the answer.
@2.23 nope, winds won't come from himalayas, they are from trade winds blowing from arabian sea to India's western coast, during their path they pick up moisture from Arabian sea. what you are saying is jet stream which lowers down its course during winter and acts as a medium in variation in rainfall patterns any way cheers benjamin..😀😀
and also mawsynram the wettest place, we have to be there at this moment to visually see and feel the wet..🤪🤪
An American enjoying all lovely seasons in India.
Same happened in North Karnataka since 3-4 years...

Mumbai is beeeaauuutiful during monsoons.. the natural parts, that is. Not the traffic obviously. No need to travel, just stay home and enjoy the rains from the windows, with a cup of tea and snacks :) Also there are so many places around Mumbai to see waterfalls and greenery, and for monsoon treks.. do explore sometime
Happy video!! Rain matters and we Tamil people how much we value it!!

HI Ben, How are you doing? If you get a chance visit Parvathamalai AKA Thenkaiyilayam located at Thenmathimangalam village which is about 20 km off Polur. Polur is 30 KM off Thiruvanamalai. This is close to where you live.
2:56. Are you going for swimming?? Noooo...was funny
Monsoon season is always nostalgic for me. Untold stories being told by you..!
Retreating of monsoon causes rain during October to November.
You go chennai take video tamil nadu mansoon session time how to survive it's very adventure trip
Bro... You explained direction of monsoon wrong. First one is from Southwest to north direction. Moisture from indian ocean comes up, got heavy on the top of land and drops during June to September.
In November-January, the return wind comes from North East which picks up moisture from Bay of Bengal and drops it only in Tamil Nadu...
I love the rains in India
best vlog about Indian monsoons :)
many thanks
Bro it's not same everywhere specialy north , no it's Early Autumn in North. Though sometimes rain's but not like monsoon.
East , North East.

head over to jawadhu to some secret water falls. you're so close to it , just go to chengam and ride up from there in a public bus or take the public bus from Arani/polur to jamanamaruthur. trust me, you wont be disappointed mate.
Heavy Rainfall in November? Tamilnadu has totally different climate compared to here in northeast

The bedhead look is my prefered look 😎
Second wettest place in India is located in Tamilnadu CHINNA KALLAR
Good vlog, but others with knowledge in the comments are saying you got it wrong the monsoon patterns.
If you have time consider making vlogs a bit longer, maybe 15-20 minutes. Deepavali is going on, would be interesting to see how people where you live in the area are celebrating during night and day.
Are there any special occasions celebrated unique to where you are, for eg. maybe birthday of Ramana maharishi.
I Eat Something Spicy snakes and drink Tea while watching rain in morning over 5 am(On Sun Rising) on music on....i feel peace in life...But I Hate Mosquitoes....So I Stay In Terrace and watch views...Little happines makes live better....
Spicy Snacks or Snakes :)
Cheers
You showed the direction of both monsoon opposite
May be the monsoon direction mentioned was not correct...just for information
Benjamin, is there any other country where rain invokes so many emotions? I personally dont know any
I am not Ben, but Ireland, England come to mind they probably don't like damp cold weather, not much sunshine there.
Hey Buddy (or is it machan since you are in TN) - Have you considered crowdfunded sponsors to create a Netflix /Amazon /BBC et al demo video and a script on all the really creative work that you have done. You have enough grist and content for at least 2 seasons. Just my 2c
if you want to understand Monsoon in India . Only one place Go to Cherrapunji Meghalaya.
NORTH EAST INDIA
Have been there physically so many times .
Non Stop Rainfall.
Highest in the world. if compared with Tamil Nadu, Cherrapunji at Meghalaya.
Is 1,00,000 ( One Lakh Times ) More Beautiful than Tamil Nadu
Maharashtra is best in Monsoon..
Just be very careful with drinking water and if you can, plz avoid street food in monsoon season. Enjoy the season but stay healthy.
Use a mosquito repellent or a mosquito plug . If you vaccinated against malaria you shouldn't have a problem. The malaria tablets are super cheap.
