This is a very fair assessment. One thing that surprised me as a Kenyan when I was a student in Europe was how cheap butter and cheese were. I realised Kenyans don't consume anywhere near the amount of dairy products as Europeans. On the flip side things such as avocados are very expensive in Europe, while here we let them rot without caring.

We have the capacity and capability of making our own cheese and butter for local consumption, but most of it is exported since Kenyans are not big consumers of the same. I've lived in America for several years and Kenyan cheese and butter are of superior quality.

@@planB-BacktoAfrica It's my pleasure, thank you hugely! Crazily, I also lived in Addis for 2 years from '97-99, when it was still just this very large sort of town, no glass buildings yet. And as well, I traveled to Eritrea prior to that, just as they had won the war against the Derg, in '91, to visit our college professor, Dr. Asmarom Legesse, who is super well known to all older Habesha, he's always fought for peace with a strong voice over the last 40 years. And visited Kassala, Tessenei, Agordat, Karen, Asmara and Massawa, riding on the backs of huge open bed lorries going 10mph with Eritrean fighters from the EPLF. There was no currency in the country so everything was shared or bartered. Deeply moving time etched in my memory. I crave going back especially to Asmara. I love it's lonely, safe, art deco backstreets, would love to have a place there.

Compared to our neighnours, we have been politically and economically stable for a longer time and since 70s and 80s r3cwived refugees from most 9f the countries in our region.. We are used to living with other nationalities. Our education system has been very broad and instill global perspectives e.g. in social studies we study all the continents. So an average high schooler can tell u something about many other countires. This makes it easier to relate with other nationalities. To top it off, we love guests and happy to serve your kenyan tea! Great video. This is not a critique but a different perspective. I would love if you could highlight the cost of living for the local Nairobians. Expats have been a part of work life for a long time but digital nomads are changing how major cities, like Nairobi, or Lisbon, or Bogota, look. More importantly, how much it costs for the locals. We can agree that it's not a good thing to price out locals but can't keep out the foreign currency either! Where is this going?

Unfortunately thats the way it works. I live in a town in the Southern part of America and once the tech industry brought high paying jobs here, people from wealthy states came and took all the jobs and paid high dollar for houses that used to be affordable to locals. Most locals are really struggling. I moved from Kenya years ago and settled here and can definitely feel the impact. Unless lawmakers intervene, nothing will change.

A few airlines (KQ, ET) have a monopoly in aviation to other African countries so they price high. Other airlines need to step up their African linkages to bring down the prices and give both KQ and ET a run for their money.

On the surface of things that is what you would think is the problem with costly African flights but actually African governments impose many taxes on the entire industry driving the cost up. Secondly the economical muscle of most African countries also counts, there is less demand for air travel compared to developed countries because the masses barely make a living. Capitalism is not wishful thinking its supply and demand. No other airline is going to join for the sake of joining without any seeable profit margins in their projections.KQ was given a direct flight from Nairobi to New York and how has that turned out?

Brilliant video! I must admit, having my origin in West Africa I am jealous the way you are throwing showers of praises on Kenya😀. I believe you are spot on though on all the pros about Kenya. I haven't been there but I believe it's a great place!
Now about the prices of air tickets within Africa, I think there is more at play. I think it all boils down to the economics of demand and supply. Airlines are businesses that have a core mission to generate profits. The issue is there are not enough travellers on many of those routes for them to operate multiple flights a day in order to spread their operational costs that could in turn translate to cheaper flights for the traveler. So they are forced to squeeze their profits from those few flights they run. Take as an example, a the route between Dusseldorf and Berlin. Or between even Berlin and New York. There are tens of flights a day between those destinations because the demand is there. This way they can spread the cost of operating those trips and that ultimately means cheaper tickets for the traveler.
Another dynamic at play is also competition. If there is a hight demand on a particular route there would be competition because other airlines would also want a piece of the pie. And as we all know, competition almost always translate to cheaper prices, if at least evil practices such as price fixing are not at play.
And about IT being introduced early in the education, I am not sure if it's a very good thing. It's true that it is essential in this day and age but kids already get enough exposure at home and they grasp those things quicker. For example here in the West my kid of 7 years old can already use the computer comfortably. They can use basic apps on the phone. They can play games. They can even independently do google search. So as for me when it comes to introducing IT early in the education, I prefer the school, especially in this AI times, to rather spend time to teach kids how to discern facts from fake information. How to look for reliable information on the internet. How to judge websites. How to think for themselves and not always take things they read on Social media or internet as final. How to do their own research using the Web. How to behave themselves on Social media, etc. I would be more enthusiastic if those things are introduced early in the education under the umbrella of IT.
Finally, you are doing a great job so stay the course😀

Interesting video, I also studied African Studies in Germany, as an African and Eritrean myself. It is joyful to see another one, in Germany/the diaspora grown African appreciating the beauties and treasures Africa has to offer, instead of being like some ppl, who let their minds be negatively influenced by many European medias/ Educational Institutions, who portray Africa as inferior. They consider Africa as inferior to the Europeans and/or look down to their own African ppl, which is frankly schade😊. Hut ab, haftey, good video.

Asante sana for that wicked shout out to Nairobi, Kenya!
Some of our progressive leaders knew that a educated population will propel the people forward, shout out to the late great Kibaki - his vision is slowly coming to fruition!
We're a multicultural, with 45+ ethnic tribes and 100s of dialects spoken, living, working together......with the odd disagreement.
The world should learn something from Kenya...well said!
*Almost forgot to say a MASSIVE shout out to Professor Wangari Maathai a fearless warrior who we are all indebted to.

So glad you are loving Kenya Weyni. Welcome to Nairobi. 🫶🏾
About the Somalis, Somali is actually one of the 43 tribes. The Somalis you see, majority are Kenyan from North Eastern Kenya. There are some from Somalia who live here since the 90’s, after the Somalia civil war that ousted President Mohamed Siad Barr. So those ones came as refugees & some recent immigrants but generally majority are actually Kenyan , born in Kenya. It’s like Oromos; there is Kenyan Oromos and Ethiopian ones.
    Again Karibu. 🫶🏾
