I treated myself to the green version to commemorate reaching 20 years working as a paramedic (green to signify the uniform) and I also love it. It is so much more comfortable than my resin version. I also agree that a positive display would be better which I see they have now introduced with some of the new solar versions.

I owned the green version for 6 months before selling it due to legibility issues. Purchased the 5610 and could not be happier with it, perfect beater watch and so comfortable.

Yes, I got the psychopathic killer red one with the glossy black case a month or so back. Brilliant. They're a striking little piece. Sit's proudly in my G Shock collection.

You can actually get a splar powered version now with a positive display. Blue or Black dial. Price is about $190 if you shop around.
I think I’m more into the 5600 series rather than the Casioaks. Recently got the full metal 5600 and love it. What puts me off the Casioaks are the location of the LCD and the fact that they’re negative displays. The indexes and hands are often hard to read which goes against its primary purpose. The best Casioak for me is the yellow ToughSolar, Bluetooth version with a positive display.
I was about to pull the trigger on the Yellow model/toughSolar but hesistated due to it being too light on my wrist. Now im stuck between getting this half metal GM-2100 vs waithing for the full metal/Toughsolar/Bluetooth to arrive in my country. This one is selling now for 13,500 pesos ( at a slight 15% discount) as opposed to waiting it out for the full metal version/toughsolar which will probably sell for at least twice as much.
Really, really really nice. I like it, but agree bout the negative display, all they have to do is turn the film covering the display 90 degrees and it would be positive. Come on Casio its easy, at least give us the choice. This one is definitely a winner. Took me a while to take the $500 jump for the all metal DW5600, this one is a no brainer ! You clealy don't understand the idea behind these watches. They are supposed to look like luxury mechanical watches. If you flip the display it will stand out from the dial and make the whole thing look like another cheap digital crap watch.
Positive display would be cool.
I picked up my first Casioak a few weeks back. The Midnight Fog Series - GM-S2100MF-1AER. It’s the smaller case version, has a metal case, larger buttons and a positive display. It ticked all the boxes for me.

I've had this watch for a couple of months and it's honestly the best watch I've ever owned. Goes well with majority of my outfits, it's light and I never have to worry about it since it's a G Shock

I love my G-Shocks, wear one pretty much everyday. I have not seen a 2100 in person, but the negative display is a no-go. I own one negative display model and unless you are in direct sunlight, it is all but un-readable. I am glad you love your 2100, it does look very nice, and am certain it will give you many years of service.
100% true my friend! There are some Neg displays that work well but not this one! I’ve seen the new black Solar/Bluetooth version has a pos display which is good news!
Check out the history of the metal G with the MRG range (from 1996 with the MRG-100). He was all for metal gs - but the tech to get the same shock resistance as resin was a big ‘ol project.

Top notch review as always russ, if you get the watch in the right angle of light the indices throw out a spectrum of colours, it’s my favourite part of the dial. Still really enjoying mine, just shows you don’t need to spend 3 or £4000 to have a beautiful looking watch. Casio have nailed it, all for £150! Perfect little premium beater

I own the GA2100 stealth version, but it’s not my favorite G-Shock by any means. I actually almost sold it a couple of months ago. I decided to give it another shot but I fear that I will eventually regain my disdain for this piece. I’m headed that way for sure. Maybe what I need is the newer version to sooth my ruffled feathers.

Love it but I am kind of hoping they would put the new Bluetooth and Solar function in this metal version…. After all the Gs that I have through the years… I now kind of only after the tough solar version of them…

I got this one and a gold (moon) one. I share a gold one with my wife. I must say that the gold one is the most, positively commented watch I ever had. From guys who wore Rolex and Omegas, and since my wife is a school teacher, from other teachers and kids in school. Shame for hard to see negative displays in both watches.

First Casio G-Shock I got was a metal solar atomic MTG in 2004. Just so you know. Years ago before G-Shock made stainless steel metal bezel G-Shocks. There were G-Shock fans who casted their own solid bezels made out of solid .925 silver for 5600's and 6900's. They even sold them on watch forums. Seriously look it up. This is years before the all metal G-Shock too.

When G-Shocks were released i was about 7 y old, i loved watches already due my to my father i'd guess. Anyway, i own so many watches by now- mostly mechanical ones of course all the legend G's but when those metals came out, i bought the black and the Silver polished one, i just love that it's scratched up and never going to bust as NONE of my Casio's ever failed, so don't mind the scratches on a G the founder was more worried it'd break, right! ;)
oh shit yeah well and i love that metal one, fCourse i got the res/carbon ones already...dammit

I think you've bought the best G-shock square. I got one from Sakura (-1CJF) and I'm really happy with it, not that there was much doubt since I loved the M5610. Also it was a chance to try Sakura out (with a relatively cheap watch), and it was a good experience buying there from Canada.

That's a lot of watch for $150. :) I'm not a fan of the negative display (and my GBD-800 has the same problem) but it's definitely stunning.
Do you think Cape Cod polish would buff any scratches out of the case? As you mentioned in your review, the only qualm I really have about a metal G-Shock is that swapping the resin for metal makes it a little more vulnerable to dings.

I love this watch too. I have a farily small wrist too at 6 inch. and this watch fits me well. You should check GST-B400 series. The silver one with resin band. The finish is even more amazing than gm2100. and the lug to lug is 46mm so it should fit your wrist well. it truly is a beautiful watch.

i althougn wanted the 1AER but than i got my hand on the green one.. SUCH STYLE such SHINE... and the Housing is gunmettal and not like the blue some colored metal...
After trying it on for a month at my AD, I finally pulled the trigger and bought the blue one.

I have the G shock metal with metal wristband holds phone numbers which digitally swipe across the screen.
The beauty in this watch for me was always the stop clock which has a digital wild cat run across the top of the screen, when stopped the cat tumbles and rolls which never gets old. G shock was by far ahead of it's time and that's why

Excellent review Russ! I was just about to get one, when I discovered that a solar powered Casioak with Bluetooth is on the way! It's the resin one, but I'm thinking to be patient as it might not be long before a metal solar version will arrive. That's what I want. However I do wish they would put lume pips above the markers as on my MudmasterGG-1000-1A3DR. Just hands looks weird and confusing.

Yeah, it’s great! I usually only wear divers and have a reasonable collection but this is a super change and feels like a quality product. I never went for the resin ones.

Not sure I want an analog G-Shock. I love my GW5610. Thinking I'll either get a GW6900 or DW5900 next. My Citizen Blue Angels has served me well for 9 years as my go-to dress/going-out watch so I don't feel the need to get another analog. I do want all the Casios though. Might also pick up a negative W-800H... hmm.

@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR so… I kind of switched gears. My wife bought me a G-Shock Ani-Digi awgm100b-1a all black solar atomic (Multi-Band 6) for our 19th anniversary today. This video got me thinking about the G-Shocks I wanted to add to my collection and this made it to #3 (behind the GW6900-1 and the DW5900). I love the awgm100b-1a blacked out with lovely white hands and negative digital tri-windows.
Like it, but I think a ‘distressed’ look would work better. Not sure if they’ve done a metal CasiOak in a less bling way. Let me know if you’ve see one peeps.

Have you seen that G-shock have just released the GBM-2100A, fixed all the problems with this watch, now it has Solar, bluetooth (if you want it ?!) , beautiful colours and got rid of the nasty illegible negative digital display and replaced it with a positive display. It is now legible and beautiful.....as a result I sold my GM-2100-1AER and bought a GBM-2100A-1A2ER which has a Vapour Blue dial.......gorgeous.....check it out.....😀
You find the blue dial as versatile as the earlier silver when matching clothes? Also how do you find the more shiny compared to previous gunmetal less blingy look.

In my words the G Shock has come of age. I have never liked the G Shock "Shock Horror". However this one is on my hit list. If I had not just purchased the Escapement time Flieger "B" type dial I would be out getting one this week!

I get the annoyance with the negative display.
I can only think that the designers don't want the digital display to be prominent and possibly it uses less battery. But you kind of have to use the light sometimes which is counter productive. I am most probably wrong but I do think a postive display might draw attention away from the analogue. I would prefer a bit more contrast with the hands etc so it's easier to read the time.

I have one and, unfortunately, the bezel does scratch relatively easily. I wore mine outside yesterday for the first time and have scratches across the bezel. I have no idea where they came from. I just went to dinner with the family. I own 4 other versions of the Casioak so this one will go into the rotation on a limited basis. I was admiring the looks and comfort of this watch most of the day yesterday and now I am pretty bummed out. Maybe I will buy one of the new solar versions to add to my 27-piece G-Shock collection. LOL

I'm torn whether to pull the trigger on this Casioak. Even at the sale price of £360 its alot for a Casio. Wondering if it will drop further next year. In the last 4 weeks I've already bought: Omega Speedmaster sapphire sandwich, Tissot PRX 80 Automatic, Tissot PRX Quartz, Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Automatic, Victorinox INOX Automatic and Bulova Lunar Pilot Quartz!
This watch is no more than £170 my friend I’m sure! There are full metal’s now which will cost that much.

@@Distorted-Vision have a closer look into these 2 modules. I think someone said to me this one here is not as full metal in terms of the case as the new full metal ones. I haven’t looked into it enough

I'm just starting to face that myself. Some of my earlier watches will be fairly easy to get rid of, since they're not worth much (e.g. Pagani friggin' Design) & I can either give them away or sell them quickly at a very low price & not stress about it. If they go to somebody who'll enjoy them, that's good enough. For a watch that's worth more, I think eBay and chrono24 are the usual places. Obviously you'll do a bit better by cleaning it up & taking good photos that clearly show the condition. Best of luck to ya.

It honestly won’t my friend! Take a look at my lady G-SHOCK show. 5 G’s everyone should own . I’ve had it a year and a half. The only thing that’s scratches is the bezel. Don’t be scared of mineral glass honestly
