But the movie had a $270 million budget but according to UK tax filings it went 100 million over that budget with re-shoots so 370 million with let’s say $25 million in tax credits puts it at 345 million. Then the marketing for this movie was purported to be over 150 million which puts it at essentially a half $1 billion. It only grossed 206 million worldwide but that was skewed internationally, so about only 100 million tops would go back to Disney, more likely 85 because of the way theaters do their splits . Even the most conservative estimates at 270,000,000+100,000,000 marketing would make it at a $270 million loss. But the budget went way over and we know that for a fact because of the tax filings, and the marketing numbers even on the low side of 100 million would still make it a phenomenal $300 million loss but I’m gonna put it more at 400 million. Either way it was a disastrous failure and you can look this up anywhere you want that accurately reports on the film business.
You can use the typical 2.5 factor as well. A $270 million budget would need 675 mil gross to break even. That puts it 475 million is gross behind the break even point which would make its loss haround 230 million. But it’s well-established in the Disney movie area it’s more of a 3X factor. Three times the budget equals the breakeven point in gross. That puts the break even point at 810, million. Which means they fell 600, million and grows short at a loss of 300 million. I can except that. But I think with Disney we’re dealing with even more money. They re-shot the movie twice essentially.
I don’t know where you heard that $14 million loss from but that doesn’t even cover the interest of the loss during the movies the way.

I don't follow the comic books, just the movies. Brie is my favorite actress in the MCU and Captain Marvel is my favorite character/movie in the MCU. The Marvels was a great follow-up. I can't wait until Brie's next appearance, hopefully with more Lashana and Teyonah too!

Therefore, as a fan of hers, I'm sharing my opinion that she's my favorite. The MCU is a large enough thing for people to all like what they like. From what I heard, The Marvels still make more money than everything else during it opening weekend, so I think it more shows people are barely going to the theatres.
@@sodium285 Except Barbie, and Mario, and Oppenheimer and Gardinas of the Galaxy and Across the Spider Verse and Creed 3 (which had the biggest opening weekend for a sports movie ever this year) and Five Nights at Freddies which came out only 2 weeks earlier and had a 75% higher box office on an 83% smaller budget than the Marvels.

Brie’s feminism is nauseating and Box Office results for The Marvels clearly shows this. Remove the overall feminist and often times political approach to these movies, and focus on a more balanced cast, better writing and accurate/consistent story. Disney and MCU are too persuaded by a small portion of social media that skews what the larger population actually wants (this includes both men and women).

Well according to the box office, you're just about the only one. It dropped 87% Friday over Friday, and is in 4th place in it's second weekend to a little known movie called Thanksgiving. People literally rather see a Pilgram they've never heard of.

I’ll be surprised if Marvel hints at a third Captain Marvel movie, but from the looks of it, probably not going to happen since The Marvels (good movie, not quite as better as the first movie) is not doing well at the box office. My guess is she might be returning for the next 2 Avengers movies, which is now going to be re-worked into 2 parts.
I hope we get more. I'm hoping this movie can build some trust as people watch on Disney plus and bring the family audience back and build the female audience. She's so overpowered though she can't participate in most other movies.

I NEED more Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel character development and the writers to write her with care like they did most of the OG's Avengers.... All the incels she pissed off with her comments in 2018 about diversity, that they didn’t even know about until clickbait videos spread and took what she said out of context like the typical media and internet does in 2019, also the fake news about marvel cast mates hating her, people will troll anything, hope she comes back some how but we don’t know for a fact.
I wouldn’t be shocked if she didn’t though especially since it’s been almost a decade since she got cast by Stan Lee in 2017 a year after she won her Oscar.
It saddens me because she loves the role so much. but it’s such a wrong place at the wrong time situation with her when it came to hate comments and trolls attacking her.

Brie Larson was official confirmed as Captain Marvel at the San Diego Comic Con in 2016, in July 2016 to be specific. Almost a decade is a bit of a strech, it's been 7 years since her casting and in 2019 both "Avengers: Endgame" and "Captain Marvel" were released, so it's been 5 years rather. Still a long time but not a decade.
The hate towards her is ridiculous. Some people are still ranting about videos Brie was in from 5 years ago. And you're right, there are media people who have done and said much worse things but they do not get nearly the same treatment as poor Brie does. I'm so proud that she is such a strong woman and that she somehow seems to ignore the hate and continue to have a very successful career. I mean, you mentioned her Oscar win of 2016. Now it's 2023. Many actors made it big and didn't have stable careers.
I hope Marvel doesn't blame Brie for the huge (as of today at least) "The MarvelS" flop because there were more than a handful of reasons why this movie stood no real chance to suceed. I personally want Brie to be happy. I am not a Marvel fan, just in it for Brie and I'm enjoying this journey more than I would have ever imagined a year ago. But I could live without Brie as Captain Marvel although it's fun and Brie should stick it to the haters who are rejoycing because they think they won and they are hateful people.

Everything else I agree with you though, I hope in the future the same thing happens to her like with Hayden christensen who plays anakin in Star Wars, people hated him but they finally accepted and love him now.

@@JG-ow7ps From what I've heard and saw in interviews and know about Brie's rocky start in the industry and what I know about her personality, I do not believe rumours about Brie fighting behind the scenes. Unfortunately, these rumours spread like wildfire and even a friend of mine told me exactly that he had heard or read about her misbehaving.
It's still really very strange why Brie of all people gets so much hate. I have not followed other celebs but when I became a fan of Brie early 2023 (yeah, I know, way too late), of course I stumbled upon these hate videos. Of course it has something to do with Brie asking for more "diversity" and her very weirdly worded "I don't hade white dudes" line and the way she delivered it. There (for me) definitely is something off. Brie didn't appear like herself or she didn't bring her A game.
At some point I was wondering if this speech and the also weird interviews with Hemsworth/Cheadle were deliberate to make Brie Larson's name more known across the internet? Because that's also promotion. My interpretation is that Brie wasn't feeling comfortable having to sit inbetween these two MCU superstars and dudes and having to "pretend" to be a strong superhero or the strongest avenger. Although these three could have acted, mentioned interview came across weird. I would like to hear your thoughs on these two interviews.
And then we have the infamous "Wired autocomplete interview". I am certain Brie was trolling the trolls by impersonating a diva and not answering questions like she's supposed to do because in every interview she's been in, she's been very friendly and of course gave useful responses.
And I think the three videos (diversity speech, Hemworth/Cheadle thing, Wired interview) happened within a short period of time in around 2019. Since then, there hasn't been scandalous videos (as far as I remember) but that doesn't stop haters from beating the dead horse.

My 2 cents: they seem to be course correcting from the first Capt. Marvel movie, unfortunately, preconceptions from that first movie and the past few Marvel movies have burned a lot of good will and this movie has taken the brunt of the accumulated apathy that's been growing for the MCU in general and not many people even gave this a chance. So despite the spin of it being "no. 1" The Marvels is a disastrous bomb. The biggest bomb actually since its now even suffered a drop of over 80% on its 2nd week.
Captain Marvel is the epitome of cringe and terrible writing.

@@jaxr2958 Carol’s most popular adversary in the comics because Rogue (when she was a villain) stole Carol’s memories and powers. The feud lasted for decades but ended last year. Rogue is also part of the X-Men and has dated Gambit (another X-Man).
Just saw the movie Marvel's it was ok I will give it a 6.5 out of 10😊
I gave it a 7.0, but it easily could be a 6.5. For Brie I can round my rating up because I had a lot of fun watching the movie the 2nd time. ❤
i hated the smug fest in part one so i don't thing think this is the movie for me, marvel movies which i liked ended with infinity wars, some Thor movies afterwards were okay, but it's not as fun now, all that excitement for next story and what it will reveal is gone after couple of movies with multiverse plot, i don't understand there is so much in comics, why it's hard to stay true to stories and keep politics out of the way, you cant bank on comics success if you start messing with the source material so much.
