    We had a gator at the Weapons Station in Goose Creek SC. His name was Charlie. He lived in a small fenced area. He lived there only because he chose too, as he was well fed with roadkill from the Weapons Station. He was about 18’ long.
    Took a group of Brit dignitaries to see him as we left the area for the airport. They were all gathered near the fence only a meter or so away. I stayed back about 4 or 5 meters. They asked why, so I told them. Explained he wasn’t chained or held in that little chain link fenced area by anything but his good will. They took off like a shot!

    This is why ethical zoos and animal sanctuaries are important. This animal has lived so long, likely because of great care by his keepers. He now will inspire more people to view these animals with awe and respect instead of fear. This will help other crocs by minimizing their killing in the wild.

    • @ukmedicfrcs
      @ukmedicfrcs 3 месяца назад +7

      Keeping wild animals in cages is not important. It's cruel. Less than 16% of the animals in zoo's are endangered species. You can't keep an animal in a cage for 100 yrs and claim it's for their own good.

    • @TerraStory225MYA
      @TerraStory225MYA 3 месяца назад +26

      @@ukmedicfrcs Are you in the field of conservation? Zoology? Or any of the earth sciences? Do you have any sources to back up your claims? I do. I know for a fact Pandas would go extinct in the wild. If not for zoos participating in Ex-situ conservation Harpy Eagle populations would be in a far worse state than they are now. I know this because I am in the earth sciences in university and had to do a bunch of research on this topic.

    • @ukmedicfrcs
      @ukmedicfrcs 3 месяца назад +7

      @@TerraStory225MYA It's very easy to research the subject but yes I am in the conservation field. And as I stated only 16% are endangered species. Animals in zoo's suffer depression, anxiety, rage. They can't act on their instincts, they can't mate as they would in the wild, they can't hunt as they would and the stress of thousands of people around them all the time is very harmful. All of this is very easy to research. The stats are out there. The fact of the matter only a small portion of zoo's are actually helping species.

    For those curious, crocs becoming maneaters can be as simple as living near places with sickness outbreaks, really bad flooding disturbing cemeteries, or even major building projects. They used to result in a lot of dead bodies that werent easy to get rid of and the crocs may just help themselves passively.
