I'm in awe after watching this video. The whales are obviously intelligent, gentle, and cognizant when interacting with this paddleboarder. Amazing!
I live in an Island where 4 months per year hundreds of humpback whales come to mate or give birth. When we humans want to meet them , we dont really get to decide, it is always their choice to let us approach or even most of the time their choice to approach us.
Incredibly delicate, these submarine sized animals can come very close but never hurt us while they could easily kill us unintentionnally. To me it is one of these proofs that they are intelligent conscious animals

A mammal that has a brain the size of a car- there must be lots going on in there. Compassion for animals should not be dependent on brain size in any case.

The sense of his body is crazy. Even as such a giant he knows exactly where he is and can control it's movements. Whales are true beauties

It's a matter of reaction. She could have died. You don't ever expect to have a playful experience with an animal like that in those conditions. Being frightened would have been absolutely normal, but she didn't panic.
Southern right whales are extremely playful and friendly. They love getting near the boats when people go sightseeing, they bump them a little to play and stretch their fins and tails out. When they play with their babies they'd take this arch position? And babies will jump over them. And they sing and chat all along. I've been lucky enough to witness all this, they're so beautiful and lovely!

@@deprofundis3293 they're very gentle, and they do have a curious disposition, so it's common to see them approaching people. What's so adorable to me is that they do the same with people as they do with other whales to have fun? It's an experience totally worth-having. They're super cute!
What location do you have to go to for whale watching to see this type of whale?
@@trophyscene5015I'm from Argentina. You have to go to "Puerto Madryn" or Port Madryn. From there, they take you to the locations where the whales are, dolphins, and also to the magellan penguin natural reserve, among other flora and fauna attractions. You can go from Trelew as well, and you also have a fantastic paleontology museum there. It's a magnificent experience, I recommend them to everybody, it was truly so wonderful, it's top experience in life list worthy.

@@robertjensen1048 whales and dolphins are very intelligent - think about if you survived getting shot twice in the same area.. wouldn't you tell your family about it to prevent it happening to them? Whales communicate this in the same way and the message is passed on through generations, and this can be seen with killer whales.
@@robertjensen1048 Whales live a long time. Some of them probably remember their family members being killed by humans before it became illegal. Most of them probably don't though. That is, unless they live near Japan or Norway😅

I would have had to touch it to acknowledge its presence or like petting a dog. I can't imagine what an amazing experience that would be.
She was too busy operating the drone which makes the title absolutely ridiculous, 'unsuspecting' is a lie as she obviously went there to have this encounter being prepared enough to film the encounter.
Which in itself is a lovely thing, I just don't know why people post with misleading titles.

? Even in the 1960s they taught about mammals, whales dolphins and Orangutans are very intelligent. They never discredited them back then. When did they start to discrete them? Do they not teach about animals in schools anymore?

This is amazing, especially considering that right whales are so rare. WE are always told that whales are gentle, but if I was that close to the animal, I would be terrified.
I recently learned why they acquired the name Right Whale, and it's just awful and feels even worse so after seeing how gentle and interested they were in the paddleboarder.

@@josephdunn3757 The whale could have easily and with little effort crushed the paddleboarder just for kicks, much like some people do to animals. But it didn't.
Or it may have ignored the insignificant little paddleboarder and decided inadvertently put endanger her by breaching. But it didn't.

Sometimes I feel like whales are not really aware of how massive they are which goes to show how humble and gentle they are making them even more magical
They evolved relatively quickly from land creatures no bigger than a small dog so I guess it's feasible they never actually realised how big they had gotten 🤔
It seems to me they do know because of how remarkably gentle and careful they are not to hurt her or overturn the kayak. ❤
It is the contrary. They perfectly know because they are incredibly delicate when approaching us, never hurting us while they could easily unintentionnally kill us.

How magnificent.The sweet and gentle curiosity, the perfect control of the flipper giving a tentative push to the board... What a fortunate & unforgettable encounter with perhaps the most fascinating and exquisite beings on Earth.
This interaction was beautiful between the whale and paddle boarder and how gentle he was not at all aggressive even the friend that joined in wasn't.

@@taterboob No, I wouldn't. I rarely take a camera out and take pictures. I live the moment. I dont even think of social media and pictures. You lose that connection to reality when you focus on your camera angle and lighting.

Who took this video? Someone with a drone perhaps? Absolutely amazing photography. And the woman staying calm and enjoying the experience of her giant visitor. Such a peaceful encounter. Shame humans cannot interact with each other this way. What a wonderful world it would be. 🥰
I was kayaking off the coast of Cumbria UK once and a dolphin came along side and nudged the boat and gave me a look that seemed almost human, he/she then looked at me and I had the feeling it was looking into my very soul. It was an experience I will never forget.

Keep in mind that whales are sentient creatures. They love and protect and are very family and pod oriented. Nothing like sharks and most dominant sea animals. They are much like dolphins, an other mammal.

The gentle push of the board just did it for me. How beautiful, they are so strong and powerful, if that whale wanted to knock them off the board, they would do so with such ease. But he chose not to. Because they clearly have more respect and intelligence than most humans do. In my opinion

There is a point in this video where it mentions the whale demonstrating intelligence, gentleness, curiosity and respect - all admirable traits for sure - yet ones that far, far too often humans fail to demonstrate to wildlife.

I couldn't have said it better! I still hate to think of these beautiful intelligent creatures being hunted and killed for oil! It breaks my heart. I truly am a sentient being and sometimes wish I was born in a different time if there ever will be a time when we aren't killing animals for any reason.
I believe that any time a "wild" creature chooses to interact with us will change our perception of the world around us. It's a moment of awe and wonder we could never imagine happening, but also a moment we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

We encountered whales a couple times commercial fishing in Alaska, where I'm from. Even had them lift it's tail out of the water beside our 45' boat. There are no words to describe how incredible and gentle they were with us. Far nicer than the 12' shark that tried to take my arm off. And whales are far smarter than we realize. Whales are just......fantastic. It was a humbling experience.

I cried when I hand fed a wild fox years ago, it felt really special, it was special. This whale interaction though must be life changing, beyond beautiful.

Watching this made me realize that any animal with a high level of intelligence most get bored if alone too much. That may be the reason why they would like to make some kind of interaction with someone. A beautiful and memorable experience.

This whale could have easily knocked her off the board and dragged her to the ocean floor if he wanted to. But this just goes to show you how gentle and respectful they are of us humans. Amazing! ♥️♥️♥️
There are only three animals that have ever been recorded to harm or kill for pleasure. Humans, chimpanzees, and dolphins. We think of it as normal because we're a messed up society, but other animals only harm with a purpose.
Alot of them do though. They sink boats. This woman was very lucky that whale wasn't in a different mood.

@@anjfehrThey don't actually. There are virtually no instances of whales attacking boats, other than a pod of Orcas off Portugal recently. Orca attacks (like other whales) are almost unheard of in the wild. There's speculation that these attacks were because a member of their pod was recently injured or killed by a vessel.

Yeah, I came to a similar conclusion. The girl & the paddle board don't fit there.. but, the whale just processed the situation. It's like.. if a bear/wolfe accidentally wandered into a neighborhood.. humans process the situation.. and attempt to figure out how to handle it the best way.

Amazing. The curiosity, empathy and altruism toward other species, and obvious emotional complexity on display proves just how intelligent they are. Simply amazing.
It's even more amazing when you take into account the fact that these individuals appear to be pretty young. One would expect them to be rather rowdy, as young animals (and humans) tend to be, but they appear to be very aware of their size and the damage they could cause if they weren't careful.
Wow!!!!, to be that lady on the paddle board, considering these creatures breach and break yachts in half, the gentleness that this whale showed in pushing the board is amazing, blown away, an experience that you’d think about daily for the rest of your years and it’d put the hugest smile on your face, nothing short of magical this interaction is, kudos to this lady, so jealous of such an experience 🙌🙏🏼✌️🤙 respect !!

@@060700nona think you’ll find with a little research whales do breach and break yachts, difference to orcas attacking boats and have even sank a few by ripping rudders apart and smashing into hulls, whales breach and land on boats a man was killed in Sydney and another thrown over board when whale breached and landed on it, tourist boats are occasionally landed on whilst whale watching, several times in Queensland Australia whales have breached and landed on yachts leaving them stranded and needing to be towed to harbour, America several times this has happened also, orcas attack boats and sink them, whales breach and land on boats breaking them, check RUclips clips , news reports if in disbelief
That person handled that well, they kept calm, and the right whale was so gentle in way he slightly brushed the paddle boat on the water. Such a gentle giant

This is the most spiritual and beautiful thing I have seen. They say whales are the most empathetic and great judge or character, animal out there. The most spiritual creature. It understands it stature but yet the most peaceful creature. They are aware of most things we don't understand. For a creature like this to approach a human in a manner such as this is a privilege and blessing in itself.

Wow, that is a once in a lifetime moment.😮 And I had one last summer. Me and my wife went on vacation to St. Petersburg, FL.
I was walking along the beach and decided to look for sand dollars near the jetty. I was in ankle to knee deep water when I heard people yelling and pointing on the jetty. I thought at first, maybe a shark! But they said it was a large manatee about 20 ft in front of me. So I went on out towards it. And just held my arms out. It came up to me and rubbed up next to my arm, swam behind me, and came on the other side. This gentle giant was huge! But they are vegetarians. The people on the jetty went silent and started taking pictures. I gently rubbed the manatee each time it came next to me. We played together in the water for at least 15 minutes, then it swam away. That was the best part of my vacation and my once in a lifetime moment.❤😊❤
Oh! How Magnificent! The Whales knew not to leap out of the water making big splashes. Such Beauty to watch and thanks for catching it on camera.

This is unbelievably amazing. These creatures are clearly so intelligent. I just wish we had a way to communicate with them. I know that woman will never forget this experience. She was just approached by not just one but TWO incredible giant creatures, two Right whales. Who can say that?
If you search “AI whale language” you’ll see that humans are currently trying to decode what their vocalisations mean. So we might not be that far off understanding them. I hope we as a species can use this as a force for good and not let capitalism or greed get in the way of what could be such a breakthrough in compassion for animals 🥺❤️

What's amazing is that the Whale is aware this is not just an object floating on the sea to be played with, but has a living creature on it. It could easily have tossed it about but was gentle and curious, showing how intelligent these creatures are.
Reminds of that one video where a whale gently pushed at a diver and moved her under his flap to swim away from an oncoming shark the diver didn’t see!

These enormous mammals are so brilliant! They know because we are so tiny, they must be very gentle with us. It makes me weep to see proof of their giant souls and makes me weep at the horrible injustices some humans still do to them. In one way they are supremely powerful, in another so vulnerable.
Life isn't worth living if these animals and moments cease to exist
