While I think this is a great comment I can’t help but mention that it’s the other way around. “See you later alligator” implies that the croc is saying this to the gator. “In a while crocodile” conversely implies the alligator is saying this to the croc.
So the croc will see you later and the gator will see you in a while.

There’s a difference between taking people to the crocs than crocs coming to the settlements. When they feed the crocs, they’re travelling to them. Crocodiles and Alligators are ambush predators so they strike when the opportunity arises so if a human or cow is within sight, it’s fair game. They don’t strike because you’re human, they strike because they can.

The amount of small minnows that flew out of the water when the croc entered shows you how good the ecosystem is over there. Shiners tend to hang out in large numbers closer to the banks when there are larger predatorial fish in the deeper parts of the water.
If you find them either toward the shore in large numbers, or in the shallows in large numbers, it is how you know you've got a good fishery nonetheless.

Northern Territory is one of the hardest places in the world to get a commercial fishing license. It is also arguably the most incredible amatuer angler's tourist destination on Earth. This is state governement policy, has been for decades, and the fisheries are booming because of it. Covid has only increased the population densities, since fewer people have been able to vist. Right now more than any time since white settlement, the waterways of the NT are practically crawling with once-in-a-lifetime catches.

Salt water crocs are one of the most perfectly evolved predators on the planet and their rebound from near extinction to basically pre colonisation numbers in 5 decades is wonderful evidence of this

These are living dinosaurs, that's how I've always seen these magnificent creatures. This is why having such a vast landscape where we don't have many inhabitants around the center is perfect. We can obviously deal with these guys if they were to ever start taking over towns, but just let them be free where they are at least. People don't seem to realize that EVERYTHING on this planet has a purpose, wether it be insects such as Ant's and Bee's, or predators such as Crocodiles, Lions and Sharks. You take something from an ecosystem and it will start to diminish, wether slowly or rapidly is not the point, over time it will be completely diminished even if it goes slow.

And just because we humans may not always be able to understand what their purposes are, it doesn't mean we should try and bend nature to our random fleeting desires. If crocs are able to start eating humans they will see us as a food source and will actively start trying to hunt humans down. Not something many would like to see happening. I understand crocs have a right to their territory and they have it otherwise they wouldn’t be exploding in number. But they can’t infringe upon our rights as humans to be safe in our territory. I'm from the US and live in South Africa and they have a different way of controlling populations than I'm used to and even hunting rights. What most people see on their screen as something "exotic" or something that should be protected is the normal, and in this case, very healthy local wildlife numbers. What's happening in this video is what happens in Florida or Louisiana with alligators. Sometimes, taking a crocodilian's life is saving many lives, including other crocodilians. I'm really happy for Australia because of these exploding numbers of crocodiles. Hopefully Florida will get the same success with the very rare American crocodile which is a separate species from the American alligator. Alligators are always plenty but the American crocodile is now listed as a "vulnerable" conservation status meaning their numbers have been rising since they were previously listed endangered in 1967, when they were almost wiped from existence.

    • @louiscypher4186

Human settlements kept expanding, croc's need a ton of range. It's no longer viable to keep clear distinctions between the two in most locations. Which is why darwin harbour is zero tolerance.
There's still about 250 relocations each year, but they are only for problem crocodiles. If they are small enough they get sent to crocodile farms, if their too big for the workers on those farms to manage they are destroyed.
