- Audiobok Bioshock: Rapture. Part 2.
Written By: John Shirley.
Narrated By: Jeffrey Kafer.
Genres: Science Fiction. Fantasy.
Summary:
It was the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal had redefined American politics. Taxes were at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had created a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business had many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom was diminishing . . . and many were desperate to take that freedom back.Among them was a great dreamer, an immigrant who'd pulled himself from the depths of poverty to become one of the wealthiest and most admired men in the world. That man was Andrew Ryan, and he believed that great men and women deserved better. So he set out to create the impossible: a utopia free from government, from censorship, and from moral restrictions on science, where what you gave was what you got. He created Rapture-the shining city below the sea. But this utopia suffered a great tragedy. This is the story of how it all came to be . . . and how it all ended.

The backround ambience of water and building creaking under pressure were a great addition really add to immersion
Exactly, godtier audio book
Loving the audiobook. "Reading" at work to keep my mind busy.
Replaying the trilogy with this book in mind is a good time. Thanks for uploading it 🙏
I loved how this book showed how flawed Ryan’s Of free-regulation Rapture was long before the discovery of Adam, like the woman how had to resort prostitution when her boss fired her when she refused to have sex with her, the various companies just dumping waste in the ocean with no regulations that is starting to ruin the structure of Rapture itself, and the grocery store owners where one buys out the garbage collection companies to run his competitor out of business. Shows that Rapture and Ryan’s dream was already doomed from the start and Adam only accelerated things.
Those things could've been fixed. Ultimately it wasn't Ryan's philosophies that destroyed Rapture. The biggest thing was inflexibility. Bill tried to get him to ease up a bit but he didn't listen. Ryan didn't even adhere to his own philosophy completely.
@@Barrobroadcastmaster allowing price gouging & predatory business practices in a place where your stuck, no leaving & absolutely zero safety net for anyone for any reason? I’m a hardcore capitalist/constitutionalist & that’s pure folly especially with absolutely zero tolerance of religions that traditionally filled the rolls big daddy government has taken over today, then dump chems I can flash fry the entire family of the man who forced my children to starve? just more proof utopia means unobtainable, nothing is perfect but America is as good as it’s going to get..... IF we can get it back from the uniparty
@@Barrobroadcastmasterthe inflexibility was a huge part of Ryan's philosophies. It most definitely was the philosophy of rapture that was its downfall. Especially when you know that Rapture is inspired by Atlas Shrugged, and explores what happens if you continue that philosophy. The philophy of Rapture is meant to be the reason for its downfall by design.
@@ZZ-bt2jr I firmly believe there's an undercurrent that it's more than just a critique of objectivism. There's a human aspect to it and that's more what causes the downfall than any simple flaw in the philosophy. The way Bill McDonaugh serves as Ryan's conscience, the way others offered and begged and pleaded with him to show an alternative, it wasn't just a critique of the philosophy. Andrew Ryan was a man, more than just an ideal. Both the man and the philosophy had their faults.
I've listened to this and the game has a whole new feel to it almost not a game it's like a real life experience
I know what you mean. This enhances the game to a whole new level!
That’s why it was written, if you haven’t played Minervas den dlc for 2 that’s a must for bioshock fans, far better then the base game sadly
This reading is absolutely amazing. I love how you do the different voices! You immerse us through the way you read the books and i love it so much!
Listening to this and then going back to the games is amazing!
I just cant help but love how Ryan, Fontaine, Sinclair, Lamb and even comstock, Alexander, Sander Cohan, Suchang, Tannenbaum get mentioned in this series!
Thank you so much for uploading this man, i appreciate it
What happens when you take a bunch of people who suffer from Main Character Syndrome and put them at the bottom of the sea?
You get Rapture!
Yo Mr. Narrator , your voice was made for this
The Ukrainian bit hits a lil' different now
You mean seeing how corrupt they are?
"now"
Soviets killed 20 million Ukrainians during soviet union lol funny how fast history is forgotten
Yeah, that bit aged rather poorly
Now we’re complaining about stinky Russians, and we’re right to
haha the writer mixed up Louie the 14th with louie the 16th
ryan makes a reference to the french revulotion and he messed up his info
Love smart women.
That was intentional. To show micro-flaws in Ryan. The author is very well know for his research. If he has a mistake, it's there for a reason!
