- Audiobok Bioshock: Rapture. Part 1.
Written By: John Shirley.
Narrated By: Jeffrey Kafer.
Genres: Science Fiction. Fantasy.
Summary:
It was the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal had redefined American politics. Taxes were at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had created a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business had many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom was diminishing . . . and many were desperate to take that freedom back.Among them was a great dreamer, an immigrant who'd pulled himself from the depths of poverty to become one of the wealthiest and most admired men in the world. That man was Andrew Ryan, and he believed that great men and women deserved better. So he set out to create the impossible: a utopia free from government, from censorship, and from moral restrictions on science, where what you gave was what you got. He created Rapture-the shining city below the sea. But this utopia suffered a great tragedy. This is the story of how it all came to be . . . and how it all ended.

Literally cannot express how excited I was when I found this . Absolutely such an amazing read/listen . Currently on the last few chapters , but god … The world building of this series is crazy. I’m obsessed with the lore .
I suggest play the games too. If you haven't played the games yet, this is the right time. Old but absolutely Gold my friend. Personally first played all 3 games and then started this amazing book.
Ya. They are a true work of art. Something I wish every 1 could experiance
This audiobook would be totally fine if it wasn't for the background. Noise, because every 6 seconds there's a squeak, and when you're sitting here trying to listen to it quietly, all you can hear is that squeak? That's insane, take out the background noise and just read the book
Honestly Fontaine getting into rapture by stroking Andrew ego seems pretty legit.
I loved these games and never knew there were books. Thanks for the enlightenment.
I was about to order the audio for $27. There's others on here. Chapters sporadic. I decided to check RUclips one more time before making the purchase. Love your voice. I actually want it to fall asleep to at night. Thank you. 💜
This is actually the official audiobook, the voice actor is listed in thw description. He's probably done other works
+1, exactly the same.
i doubt the person who uploaded this is jeffrey kafer, your innocent ignorance is...interesting.
@@ionfalcom1 Not all books are read by the authors. I have Amazon's version of audio books. Just because a book is read doesn't mean it's a random guy on RUclips. In cases it's the same exact thing as a ghost writer. Your innocent ignorance is....interesting.

Enjoyed listening to this while I was at work, thanks!
Thank you bro
Bill my fav character, I like his personality
Thank you for uploading this been wanting to read/listen to this for a while now
I like to pretend Infinite Didn’t Happen, or is a spin off or something. Rapture is the superior setting and world in my opinion.
Absolute legend! Cheers👍😀
Why put a squeaky obnoxious background noise? It’s like torture.
Hard nosed bunch, said it clearly in the audio book😢 sorry you didn't enjoy it.
This was a real treat.
I was just about to buy this to listen while I play bioshock 2. Just so happened to be in my recommendations.
Great job. thanks for uploading this :)
Superb. Great narrator and sound design.
Bill mcdonagh is thr best side character ever
Love the game, now, love the book! Thank you!
Great book....so enjoy your videos please keep them coming and here to help get your videos out to everyone to enjoy....cheers mate
You are the legend
Never played the game, but interested. Thx
This is top tier in my book
Thank you kind stranger! ✨❤️
Thanks for the upload, this is real good shit.
A preference for this novel over Atlas Shrugged might be derived from the stylized writing. This novel builds the world, with tropes and cliches of the 30s-50s, whereas Atlas Shrugged was written without that need, as it was set in modern times (for the period). Atlas Shrugged was also written to convey a message of rational self interest and individualism and was heroic in its world view, whereas this novel is written to follow the story of Bioshock, which was written as "what if the main character isn't rational" and is pessimistic in ots world view. Atlas Shrugged promotes that mankind is heroic by nature, and illustrates how a willful refusal of rational thinking is destructive. This novel (and bioshock in general) conveys that when mankind is free to invent and create, his default nature is destructive and sadistic, and he creates a society that is hopeless and unable. The premise of this novel is possible because Andrew Ryan is not rational.
Or maybe because objectivism with no social safety net for the poor always results in a violent revolution. Rand believes that the rich would set up charities of their own fruition but history has shown us unless there a tax incentive that never happens. Someone had to be poor, someone has to run the bottom rung of industry, and if these people don’t have social programs to alleviate their condition they revolt. Every time. It’s not that people prefer this to Atlas Shrugged, people hate it 😂😂
Thank you for this ♡
Lol better written then Atlas Shrugged
That book is seriously hard work

@@justjrandomuser it's clearly a phone typo. At no point when you were writing that reply did you think: mmm this is going to make me sound like a pedantic try-hard....maybe I'll leave it? 🤦 Clearly not but well done for correcting the world's spelling mistakes. We need more people like you ... Improving society one neurotic observation at a time.
That book is thick enough to beat someone to death with, I’m not surprised this one’s better. Short, sweet; sets up the game nicely, maintains the canon beautifully, and we get to see rapture at its height. The only thing I get from Atlas Shrugged is a headache
🤮🤮🤮🤮 bioshock is literally a cautionary tale against anarcho capitalism. please read Capitalist Realism by Marc Fischer if you want reality. but if you want to keep taking the pill that keeps you in your boring sigma grindset be mad at women and minorities life i understand
Очень нравится эта игра) прошел ее всю в захлёб)
Thanks

2:56 Pinkerton? Wasn’t those the name of the ppl Booker Dewit worked for in infinite? I wonder if there’s a connection. 🤔
yeah i think with the tears and stuff in infinite they opened one and did some stuff in rapture or gave some tech i can’t remember exactly or where i learned that from. this was not a helpful response. carry on
A small PSA. I'm a huge fan of the games, and I found part 1 kinda boring, a lot of backstory, setup and talk about characters I didn't care about. I'm halfway through part 2 and it's gotten MUCH better. That's when you finally get to explore a built rapture that you "know", and get introduced to many major characters from the games. So if you're considering dropping this like I did, give part 2 a try. If you like the games, that's when it gets familiar and interesting.
Different strokes for different folks. I personally enjoy backstory. Things leading up to the familiar apsepcts of Bioshock is wonderful because I don't like just jumping into the nitty gritty quickly, I like a gradual approach. That's just me tho
I personally disagree. So far I really enjoyed the parts involving Gorland/Fontaine investigating what Andrew Ryan is building and jumping from impersonation to impersonation. He’s such a bastard haha
America's sense of freedom was diminishing . . . and many were desperate to take that freedom back.
Nice although I do think you could have just reuse Jasmine jolene's audio from the game itself for all of her lines
Tnx man
Does the series soooo much better than Infinite.
It is beautiful 🎉🎉🎉 my god.
🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Bill impression sounds like a clone from star wars
Thanks for the audiobook, but I’m going to have to throw your McDonaugh impression on the big pile of examples of how yanks couldn’t do English accents to save their lives

Let me guess the game version of the Big Daddys are nerfed compared to the book? 😒
Negative, the Big Daddys don't do much in the book at all.
@@alexanddawnlehr4450 seriously? But they're awesome, overpowered mechanics!
Were you assuming the book came first or something? Otherwise I don't see why the assumption lol

As much as I personally despise the lead designer bioshock 1 (and dead space 1 close second) is obviously the high water mark of video games, not interested in the infestation of “stunning & brave” “stealth” crossbow shooters regurgitated every year
Why you despise them?
@@hidan407 I don't know why he doesn't like the lead designer for Dead Space. But the lead for Bioshock Ken Levine is a huge asshole. He doesn't like anything else to touch his precious Bioshock.
Including fans, fan input. He purposely killed every character in Infinite so 2k(the studio who owns Bioshock) couldn't use them. He's just a petty creator who says you can only play with my toys in MY way.
@@hidan407 Either some sjw shit or some maga shit I bet
@@hidan407 levine is kinda a douchecanoe imo, he dissed and basically disregarded Bioshock 2 sinply because he didn't make it, doing it under the guise of not wanting to repeat themselves yet do exactly that in burial at sea, but worse, he's just a cash grabber man u can even hear in the inital bioshock interviews that he just cares about making a product.... and wouldn't you know he's not even the one that originally came up with rapture, he wanted a nazi space station, guy's a joke imo it was a miracle we got bs1 from someone like that
@@ninjalo3752 calling him an asshole for being possessive over the world he created is wild. If you're gonna criticise someone at least find a good reason, like the myriad of broken promises that you can find about Bioshock Infinite, or the mess of plotholes that is Burial at Sea.

I really don't like this narrator.
If this wasn't read by a twelve year old it would be more enjoyable.
