  • With so many tomatoes being harvested, we have a window of opportunity to make a real classic sandwich, the Bacon Lettuce and Tomato sandwich, or BLT. I'll make the working man's BLT first, a simple but delicious sandwich with 5 ingredients. Then we will polish it up a bit and make a more developed BLT. Come along as I try to use up the tomato harvest!

I love BLTs. I made some last week. We just moved from Texas up to Missouri to take care of my mother-in-law, and I brought as much of my garden with me as i was able. Thankfully it is still producing even though I haven't gotten the plants back in their raised beds.

i start my seeds around St Patricks day and put them in the garden when the soil is warm enough, I fertilize with sea weed extract and watch them until they are cherry red (birds don't go after them where I am).

I've been eating BLTs for about 3 weeks. I grill quality bread too, and kick it up with a fried egg. Who says eggs are just for breakfast? My parents grew beefsteak tomatoes in Kansas that I've never been able to duplicate. One fruit would be three or four of that big one you cut up. We had sliced tomatoes with every meal all summer. Yum!
Birds haven't been a problem for me out here in NW Harris County. As long as the bird baths are full, they leave my garden alone. The squirrels, however... they even go after the green ones. 😬

Hello Scott. It's been some time since I last watched one of your video. What a great sandwich for anytime! My choice would be the first one. Though here in Rhode Island we like our bacon crispy. What a coincidence, our family ate Wonder bread while we were growing up. We lived within a block of a Wonder bread factory. It had a small store that mom would send some of us to buy bread and sometimes Hostess dessert. Great memories from back in the 50's - 70's. We had moved away in 1976. Nice hearing from you ans sharing this challenge. Be well.😃🍅🥬🥓🍞=🥪

    I am soooooo JEALOUS!!!
NE GA here…I’ve gotten 4 cherry tomatoes so far, they were delicious, hopefully get to have more and some of the larger tomatoes…but my plants are already struggling with diseases, we’ve had a lot of rain, like a LOT. Which is encouraging fungal infections. And I think a couple of my raised beds have bacterial wilt in them or something.
Have you ever struggled with any kind of wilt with your tomatoes?
Loved the video, both sandwiches looked wonderful. My preference is probably the first one. Kind of an Old timey southern thing 😊
