For those who are wondering, the piece is called "The Ring without Words", an orchestral arrangement made by Lorin Maazel of Wagner's The Ring of the Nibelung. Although the hammer strokes seems to be edited, they are the same stroke repeated over and over
lol I like how the brass player next to the hammer cover his ear with one hand while play with the other. His stand was even bounced up from the ground.
Well now I know that there are at least 3 of us who noticed the fluegelhorn player. Of course, he knew EXACTLY where to reach up and protect his hearing. Very Funny...!!!
@@charleyhibschweiler4555 that's more epic than manly, but epic is far superior listen to Shostakovich Symphony 11 4th movement at the end bit where the final brass fanfare plays before it ends
+Richie Nava The tuba isn't a loud instrument, in fact, being greater in capacity, and stuck in the lower register, it requires a greater-than-normal puff to even be heard. A trumpet on the other hand can be relatively effortless to penetrate the jumbled sound of an orchestra.
Alex Paulsen Thats completely false. The design of the tuba allows for a greater amplitude than most other instruments. The reason its so hard to hear is because people are more attuned to hearing high pitched noises, thats why one would only need one picolo and one cymbal. But one might only need one tuba because its so loud. While they need 4 or 5 trombones and other middle voices.
very much agree between the elements of classical music and heavy metal. I recommend Shostakovich symphonies if you didn't know, they are as close to Heavy Metal as you can get.
Due to the boredom of being the "hammer musician", people had started to say no to the job. So they ended up filming a track, and have kept using it repeatedly until these days
I find myself coming back here because the editing and humor are so subtle and perfect it makes me scream-laugh. As a drummer who studied in a classical music school this is triple f*kng funny. The anticipation for the last one kills me everytime.
Been looking all over youtube for a flashmob of this piece, in this particular part. Would be so awesome playing the hammer in the middle of a mall, or a subway station.
I'd be so stressed out playing that hammer. A little off in timing and all stares on you. Pull it off perfectly and the conductor is going to call you to take a bow. There can be only one hammer to rule them all.
Hi, neighbor, what's with the ginormous sledge hammer? Oh, just knocking down a coupla walls, enlarging the living room. But I won't bother you after 4 -- Running for my evening gig at the Philharmonic. Oh, really? A musician? Whaddaya play? Ummm...same thing, really. Long story.
Tchaikovsky's cannons are too impractical to haul around. A hammer can be carried like a sword into battle and you can even make your own should the performance happen in another city.
You would think the clarinet player would know when it was coming and wouldn't jump every time! He should cover his ears like the rotary trumpet player.
Whoever played the hammer part, he achieved the highest pleasure of percussionist life. Where there's no need to limit your obsession for being loud
Its Fredi Müller...
I love how the trumpet player's stand bounces each time the percussionist hits the hammer
Or how the trumpet player covers his ear before the hammer stroke.
Those are french horns, but yeah! i wonder how long it took them to not flinch lol.
@@LagunaPadre361 They are absolutely not. Those are rotary-valve trumpets.
@@LagunaPadre361 That is a rotary bass trumpet right next to the hammer, and they're awfully close to each other!
Poor neighbors, when he practices at home.
What are you on about? The guy practices at the gym.
LOL. Took me seven years to find this comment. But it was worth the wait.

Obrigado pela explicação.
0:22 The clarinetist's expression, though...
and the guy plugging his ears 😂
Can't blame him, as that is one of the loudest hammers I've heard around(I've heard at least 3 live). If only the box was bit bigger for more depth!
lol I like how the brass player next to the hammer cover his ear with one hand while play with the other. His stand was even bounced up from the ground.
I saw that too. once I saw it I could not watch Hammer Dude. I was watching him.

one trombonist dislikes this video
More like a french horn player and a bass clarinet dislike this video. :p
4 triangle players that can't stand the hammer.
And the Tubists finally have someone who can match their loudness.

"THE HAMMER!"
he must have gotten laid in an instant
I play Mjolnir
he's gonna hammer her good
This is what Chris Hemsworth can say if he’s ever asked if he plays an instrument
You know its loud when brass players cover their ears
they used the same clip of the hammer each time
I thought I was the only one who noticed
Ohhh indeed!
Yeah, in the original video the hammer is only played once
Thank captain obvious
There’s no way, this orchestra is of such quality you guys only thought it was the same clip. True geniuses behind the camera too
-So what instrument do you play?
-Giant hammer.

"What do you play?"
"I play the FUCKING HAMMER!!! >:D"

"I guess you can say my notes are always flat."

Goodbye Lorin Maazel. Play the hammers of the Gods.
The best hammer player of his generation, a prodigy he invented almost everything.
LOL the bass clarinet player's reaction
That poor bass clarinetist is Manfred Preis for those who didn't know. I wonder how his hearing fared after that.
Shao Kahn loves this music
I wonder how much hearing damage was done for the people sitting right next to the hammer
That base clarinet player's face at 0:20 was priceless
The thorcestra has a new mjolnir i see
I´m here for that fucking gif i watch...
The fucking Hammer! LOL

Seven Notes in the entire thing.
One wonders what a Musician has to do Wrong for an Orchestra Leader to Select him for Seven Notes.
Someone: So... What do you play?
Me: MJOLNIIIRRR!!!
Didn’t know Thor played in an orchestra ! Go God of Thunder!
Wow! A very young Stephan Dohr playing the the French Horn
Teacher: what was your favorite instrument?

I definetily ended with a hernia after playing this thing. Respect for the hammer guy.

Something about the percussionist wielding the hammer while dressed in a tuxedo seems even more comical.
Meme or not, I really enjoy the piece with the extra hammer strikes.
Just noticed they are using the same clip when uses the hammer, the same movement from both of those guys in front.
Lol look at the clarinet, he is bracing himself instantly everytime the hammer drops ^^
it looks like that guy finds slamming the hammer rather invigorating given his reaction after the slam.

This guy must clean up at the carnival, swinging the hammer to ring the bell and win a prize for his girlfriend.
Me with a sledge hammer in my garage: "Yeah, I'm a musician"
This is so funny, its all about the trombone player hating each individual hammer hit, while the brass player casually covers his ear
"stop, hammer time."
everytime you watch this, you see something new
Can my friand come over our practise? Yes what does he play? THE HAMMER
hammer song
The hammer is being played/wielded by none other than Thor Ragnarok...Loki Svenson is on timp...and, of course, Odin Borson is crashing the cymbals...
Love how the guy sitting next to it covers his right ear on each hit
I didn't know Mahler was not the only one with this crazy hammer.

The guy playing brass :D
The hammer from Smash Bros but irl
I understand the hit is from the Donner hammer on a yunke, which gives it a metallic sound, not that wood sound.
Stefan Dohr is looking so young in this...
