I have once again fallen prey to the GHOST song formula:
1. I listen to the song and I think it's alright but kinda weird
2. I listen to it again
3. I listen to it about a dozen more times without realizing
4. I turn into a freaky little goblin whenever I hear the song
This happens every time what do I do
God SAME. Like, at first I'm like "meh, the song is ok"
But then I keep listening to it and it becomes an obsession and they become my new favorite song. It happened with deathbody big time
HOW DID YOU PUT IT INTO WORDS CAUSE THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS SONG TOO
YESSS
Go with it
Omg me too!
For those who are wondering: Aripiprazole is a medication used to manage and treat schizophrenia, mania associated with bipolar I disorder, irritability associated with an autism spectrum disorder, disjunctive therapy in major depressive disorder, and Tourette syndrome. It is a second-generation antipsychotic medication.
Antipsychotics are also frequently used to treat difficult to treat pain conditions like chronic migraine and fibromyalgia. It’s not their intended usage, but they are used for this.
kinda ironic that i have asd but ive never heard of aripiprazole … 😭

"Go on, praise me like a god." I love this line. This entire song is amazing! And especially at the end, it makes it seem like she is just asking anyone to "Please see me." It reminds me of gifted kid burnout.

@@smal5504 I think they're just called that because in the mv the creatures are drawn on a whiteboard
(warning, lots of text ahead)
Even if Ghost wasn't focusing on the meaning of the lyrics of this song too hard, I still think there are a lot of interesting themes that can be drawn between the lyrics and the PV. I'd say the biggest thing that I think is running through this song is the concerning pairing of medicine (specifically psychiatry) and random chance, possibly alluding to medical malpractice or debates surrounding the legitimacy/ethics of psychiatry as a practice.
Despite Teto being portrayed as a genius ("a miracle // something theoretical") and somebody worth praising "like a god", there is also frequent use of uncertain language or terms relating to chaos or chance. Phrases like "I guess", "I reckon", or, more literally "God-knows-where", "Flip a coin" and "Who will I become?" might be used to suggest the singer doubts themself in their choices or to suggest that, regardless of their confidence, it isn't earnt confidence and they are not as knowledgable as they seem. Knowledge as something questionable or illegitimate can also be seen in the coloured symbols that pop up a few times throughout the PV. They're being taught on a whiteboard, and Teto has distinct reactions to each one, to the point of censoring the orange-yellow symbol completely, but they don't have an obvious meaning, possibly referencing how subjective or dubious information is being passed off as fact in the practice.
I think it was a really interesting choice to use a dartboard in the PV; it clearly carries on with the theme of chance and uncertainty, with Teto literally being pinned to the board and pierced through the chest in her chair. It makes me think of how medical practitioners can never be 100% accurate - they have to diagnose, prescribe, and hope for the best. The danger factor of darts is shown very clearly, but the practitioners are portrayed as both the perpetrator and the victim. They throw darts figuratively speaking when they prescribe medication, hoping they won't cause too much harm. However, in a very self-centered way, the person who gets hit is Teto in a chair (a chair that reminds me of stereotypical "sit back and tell me about how you're feeling" psychotherapy, but that could just be me), possibly because 'missing' so to speak also hurts the doctor because their prestige and legitimacy are seen as just as important as the safety of their patients.
The line that made me start putting all of this together was "The Tower's gonna fall and you'll silently rebuild it all". The "Tower" is capitalised, suggesting it's talking about the tarot card The Tower, which represents (surprise surprise) sudden change and chaos, possibly stemming from higher knowledge or understanding. Therefore, you could interpret the line as meaning "Change is going to occur (The Tower is gonna fall, as depicted in the tarot card) and you are going to endure it silently for the best, because I think it is for the best", possibly in reference to changes brought on by a change in prescription, which would be in line with Teto *literally shoveling random pills down people's throats* in the PV.
Towards the end of the PV, a different side to Teto is hinted at, where her heart is pulled out of her chest behind the random symbols that she has, literally speaking, internalised. The conflict between the symbols representing information that may be meaningless or just debatable and the emotional symbol of the heart reads to me like she has been working off pure facts and logic in place of where her heart should be (again, literally), and she realises, with her heart in her hand, that she's become heartless, or that her practice has been neglecting the subjective, emotional side of things. All of this occurs with the 'normal' scenes for the chorus imposed over her, suggesting that this debate is occurring in the background, failing to make a difference in her behaviour, until it disappears completely, replaced by repetitions of "Go on, praise me like a god", with her standing, then collapsing, on a pedestal, surrounded by clones that worship her.
Overall, I think Teto is characterised in a fairly classic anti-hero fashion; she wants to help people, to be a "miracle", but the method that she chooses gives ambiguous results at best until she steps back and realises that she's lost her way, but can't stop and turn back - not only that, but she has made an impact, changed the field of study entirely, and not in a way that she likes.
I don't want to jump to any conclusions on what exactly the song is criticising; it reads to me like a scathing parody of the psychiatric practice, but it could also be in reference to a specific, hypothetical psychiatrist and this is simply a dramatic narrative, or it could be applied to a wider field entirely.
Regardless, Teto's tragic career progression is best summarised as "A psychedelic lie... a line between the villains and the rest."
Fantastic analysis!
This deserves more likes
Great analysis! I completely agree with it and, even if the creator said that the lyrics don't make much sense, that was the message I was getting, but I didn't have the words to put it, this comment made things a lot clearer
Great analysis! But i still not understanding lol
Oh boy, i didn't expect to think for a whole hour, cause of an analysis of a song..
0:42 ok, did anyone else notice that as the other Tetos are saying "no" to her ideas, she slowly starts crying before getting mad?
I did too
Gosh stop making me relate
i didn't notice the crying
Yeah lol
Yes
I'm obsessed with the scenes where she's upset or hurting, cause it's all hiding behind the bright colors and her happy expression! That's the real facade 🤝
So at the time of writing this it hasn't premiered yet but the bucket with pills is totally giving the same energy as that one children's book where people have happy buckets and there's these bullies with spoons and they fill their happy buckets by spooning out happiness from others buckets.
So just advertising bullying to kids?
@@SpaceTempestno the point of that part is that when bullies spoon happiness out of other kids buckets it won’t go into their own buckets no matter how hard they try, so it just makes them both unhappy in the end

@@salm0n0 so what's the moral of the story then?
I don't think Teto has a medical license but if ghost says she does then it has to be true
**Meet the medic intensifies**
Warning: Do not let Dr. Teto touch your genitals, she is NOT a real doctor.
The line "The Tower's gonna fall and you silently rebuild it all" is one of my favorite saddest lines here that I think goes overlooked a lot. If we take 'The Tower' with it's tarot meaning, this line is like saying your life will fall apart while you keep up a smile with everyone else and don't let anyone help you, silently rebuilding it all while pretending to others everything is okay...

Me fr.
Yup. Agreed.
Oh, that makes a lot more sense! I thought it was a reference to the Tower of Babel - an effort to do something great thwarted as you're left scrambling to recollect your lost knowledge, humiliated by your failure. Eventually trying again only for the cycle to be perpetuated, so much to the point where you preemptively expect all you do to fail, though I can't think of any reason to keep trying then, so that interpretation falls apart (lol). I like your version more! :)

I might be projecting a bit here, but this song makes me think of someone who was constantly praised, and therefore they felt the need to be perfect all the time to live up to that praise, hence the lyrics "A couple years ago I was told that I would be a miracle." As well as someone who let their parents decide their life for them. Here's my theory explained a bit more:
At 0:42 it shows Teto seemingly showing other versions of themself ideas that they drew on a drawing board, I think that this is meant to represent Teto thinking of brilliant ideas, but Teto always becoming too anxious of the ideas not being good enough to actually execute said ideas, hence the other Tetos shaking their head at every one of Tetos ideas until eventually Teto just gives up because nothing is ever good enough for themself. This could also represent how Teto may have wanted to work some other job, but their family members pressured them into becoming a Pharmacist instead.
I think that because of the constant praise Teto heard, they may have occasionally have an inflated ego, hence the lyrics "Go on, praise me like a god!" possibly representing how since Teto gave into their parents' demands for them to become a doctor/pharmacist, their parents praised them "Like a god."
The lyrics "No matter what I say, it's confusing either way" can also represent how Teto may have attempted to communicate with their parents on how they didn't want to be a pharmacist and wanted to be something else, but how their parents wouldn't understand.
As for the lyrics "Stars always watching from afar, turning who you are" can represent Teto feeling like their parents are always watching from afar, judging their every move, further making them feel like they have to be perfect 24/7. I think that the lyrics that follow, "In the end, it left me delicately scarred beyond pathological facade" further back up my idea.
I could go on and on about all the symbolism that I see in this, but I'll try and keep this theory short and sweet, so I just have one last point to make:
At 4:08 We see Teto standing in front of a lot of versions of themself that are bowing down to Teto, however at 4:29 Teto is seen sitting down with their head facing the ground making it not visible to the viewer. Again, I'm probably just projecting here but I really do wonder if this is meant to represent how because Teto was "Praised like a god" so much, they have an inflated self esteem where they view themselves as a god- They're also probably praised like a god because they seem to be a doctor and or a pharmacist and people who work in the medical field are often praised.
I believe that at 4:29 when Teto sits down, looking much less happy and confident, this represents how whenever Teto fails at something or does something wrong, they let it get into their head and feel like a failure who let everyone down; This can also represent how much pressure is put on doctors and if their patient dies or if they're just not able to cure their patient then they're often criticized quite heavily.
So sorry for my theory being a bit long- But I hope that you enjoyed it and thank you so much for reading this far.👍

@@sproutz5014 i've assumed them as personalities or personality traits for a while now and that she's trying to fit herself into these labels but none of them fully line up
also at 0:54 she seems to be crying about orange

As someone with tentative experience in the field this song reads to me like bluntly about the struggles of a psychaitrist.
Psychatrists routinely have to make estimations and difficult calls on the patient's mental state and mistakes can cause very severe damage. Too little medication or too much medication, the type of medication, the diagnosis itself, all can sometimes feel like a gamble where losing means you potentially condemn a patient to severe suffering you can't even fully comprehend and/or side effects of the drugs. The song's talk about morality and randomness to me read as the portrayal of the seperation between a seemingly godlike professional and a monster who ruins lifes can be utterly unpredictable. It's often extremly difficult for new psychaitrists to cope or come to terms with this responsibility and seemingly random outcomes.
Teto really said "🤓"
Also, the capitalization of The Tower makes me think of Tarot, whatever the disastrous implications with that.

The entire pastel rainbow aesthetic of Teto is so appealing to me! Just looking at the colors shift with the beat feeds my brain with dopamine.
Pastel colors are considered quite calming. They relax babies and stimulate their brains! Very neat.
GHOST said in the description that these lyrics were made more to rhyme rather than have meaning, but I love analyzing their songs so I'm still gonna do that with this one :) While I do agree with the gifted kid interpretation of this song, I think it could also be about schizophrenia because:
- The mention of aripiprazole, which is a medication that can be used to treat schizophrenia. All of the pills and the scene where Teto feeds pills to the colored figures could be a reference to medication being the main treatment for schizophrenia.
- The line "go on, praise me like a god" and the ending scene where Teto is being worshipped by her clones could be considered delusions of grandeur, a symptom of schizophrenia.
- The whole song reminds me of word salads. Many lines sound like a bunch of words mixed together without actually conveying any true meaning in a sentence. (Or maybe I'm just not looking deep enough into the lyrics? Idk) It feels like Teto is confident that she's saying something that makes sense, but it's just not coming out coherently.
I thought this was worth pointing out because it opens up a lot of possibilities for the story. She might be a doctor not taken seriously for her work. The whiteboard creatures could be new viruses she discovered, but her clones (who could represent other doctors) don't believe her because she's schizophrenic. Or maybe they just don't understand her because of word salad, tying in with the line "no matter what I say, it's confusing either way"
She might not literally be a doctor, but she sees herself as one because she's trying to self diagnose herself with one of those viruses. Like in the scene where she opens up her chest to reveal the whiteboard creatures. Once again, she isn't believed/understood because of her schizophrenia. Near the end, she ends up pulling her heart out rather than a virus, and it disturbs her because she realizes that her doctors were right. This also relates to the title "Pathological Facade" because her supposed illness was in her mind the whole time.
Or she really could be a burnt out gifted kid who has trouble keeping up with expectations because of her mental state. It still works! I'm just a psychology student though, not schizophrenic. Feel free to agree/disagree with me!
Good!

Thank you Ghost for this masterpiece and that I can be a pill now, my life feels complete.
Can ghost and pals just compliment ghost normally 😭😭 or nah?..
Waking up to a new Ghost song after having a nightmare about ghosts is truly the most Ghost experience you could get
I like Teto’s design including total blackness whenever she opens her mouth. It fits the song, in my opinion; this is a person who, underneath a cheery and energetic exterior, is defined by a terrifying, all-consuming *absence.* And everything she does, she does to try and fill that void.
“Go on, praise me like a god.”

not even joking i heard this while in the psychiatry (it was a weekend when i was home but i dont care smh i was still technically in it....)
In my personal life and personal trauma I find this song very relatable. It speaks to the "I was told I was meant for greatness but that was all just to keep me under abusers thumbs" feelings.

I don't know how you managed it, but you sure managed to capture exactly how it feels to be manic from bipolar right up until the crash.
This.
This is exactly it.
I love the whole feel of this song, especially since its not written in 4/4 time, it feels like the beat is just... missing something. But it works. It feels off in a good way.
You might feel like it's missing something because of the 7/4 time signature - you expect there to be a rest beat or a note to conclude the progression after the 7th, but there isn't one, it literally skips a beat (because 4/4 is so standard) since the first 4 bars are presented as being a normal chunk of 4/4. Sorry if my terminology is off here, I'm not super knowledgable about music theory

I'm not sure it was intended, but this song really hits me right in the autism spectrum disorder. It's good as always, ghost!!!!
Ghost said that this song had to purpose excepting rhyming, but yes, it gives the autism spectrum disorder/ gifted child vibes
i love how the way the music progresses, it feels like a broken loop. like there's supposed to be another note or two before the notes repeat but there isn't and it like, idk, it adds something.
It's because the song is written in 7/4 instead of 4/4 aka common time

thank you so much for making her still sound like an UTAU
Does anyone else go through a faze where they listen to a single ghost and pals song on loop for like a week and then find a new song and repeat the process
I relate this song way too much. I grew up hearing from my parents and teachers that I had such a bright future - I made straight A's. I took up art. I did clubs. But when I turned 17 I started hearing voices and spiraled into early onset schizophrenia. And for I am med resistant and my symptoms are pretty crippling, so I am currently on disability. So... I do feel like I let my parents and my teachers down, my antipsychotics don't help that much, and there is just so much of my early life I feel like ended up being a façade because I was on the spectrum and started masking my emotions all the time. The fact that this song so very nails that feeling AND even mentions Aripiprazole - an antipsychotic I have been on before (that didn't work for me) really just resonates with me.
Songs with meaning are great but honestly, sometimes songs with no meaning at all are just as great. It scratches the same itch as a lot of nonsense poetry does for me, where its just about having cadence and rhythm that feels good to do and it fun. Like damn so many lines from this just feel great to say, they're so tasty, good mouth feel and brain feel.

I find all the “gifted kid burnout” interpretations interesting because I made this the theme song for one of my OCs who has superpowers and is constantly told he is destined for something great. The stress of being the “chosen one” is a bit much for him.
I think it's the toxic positivity vibe that emanates from the song
like, the song is pretty explicitly about psychiatry but the vibes still work for that interpretation because of the toxic positivity surrounding both those things.
And this fits even better when you realize that "gifted kid burnout" typically actually just means "autistic kid broken inside from masking" so already the overlap with psychiatry are more than just vibes.
Is it weird that I kinda want to have this play at my funeral?
No dw it's normal behaviour❤❤❤ Sending pathalogical love

The Tower is one of the Major Arcana symbolizing basically a change that may be unwelcome at first, breaking down old foundations to rebuild something more genuine.

That’s great
The feeling of seeing your med's name is quite unique.
A banger, btw.
I wish more people made music like you and weren’t afraid to take risks musically and use uncommon time signatures like 7/4 snd 5/4 omg- The ultimate command you have over the music is insane and I feel like beyond that this is just your best song like the hook is so addictive and mixing feels like absolutely perfect to me like oh my god I keep coming back I like literally can’t get enough of it
Alright so Teto is Dr. Mario, throwing random colorful pills in people's mouth to fix their sickness
🔥🔥🔥STARS ALWAYS WATCHING FROM AFAR TURNING WHO YOU ARE IN THE END IT LEFT ME DELICATELY SCARRED BEYONG PATHOLOGICAL FACADE 🔥🔥🔥
🔥🔥🔥 DON'T YOU FIND IT ODD SECRETERIAL SPEAKING GO ON PRAISE ME LIKE A GOD 🔥🔥🔥
To me the song is about feeling like you failed the 'expectations' of your family or close ones. Teto still gets praise for whatever she does, I mean usually a family member will say something like "good job" or something, 'Praise me like a god' but she doesn't feel like the praise applies to her anymore. She doesn't feel like she lives up to being a miracle but tries to bury these feelings by pretending to be happy and bright, a pathological facade that will only harm her in the long run. Or my own feelings of inadequacy probably influenced how I see the song, idk.
That is actually a really good interpretation!
Teto is our precious little bbygirl
This actually could be it.
And I relate to this so hard.
just from the artwork alone im so excited !!!!! i cant wait to listen 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

The relatable feeling of this song with my autism!! Feeling like you don’t understand other people, feeling like other people don’t understand you, feeling different, wanting to be recognized beyond what people think you are
theory moment
(tl:dr at the end)
this song is about gifted kids and the pressure put on them. "a couple years ago i was told that i would be a miracle" refers to gifted kids and their intelligence being weaponized and made to be a source of stress for them.
"it's kinda like a psychedelic lie" refers to burnout and the thought you don't have any intelligence anymore because you've been burnt out. "a line between the villains and the rest" is referring to how gifted kids are put on a pedestal.
we can also see the singer is traumatized because of the line "nostalgia from a wall of barricaded faded memories", which refers to dissociation.
from the singer's next lines, we can also infer that they were forced to be perfect and were traumatized because of it. they need praise to feel loved and important, because that's all they knew as a child.
in the next lines, we can see her start to crack and break under pressure.
"the tower's gonna fall and you'll silently rebuild it all" refers to breaking and not having the support necessary to heal well, so they have to do it on their own.
from the coming lines, we see that the singer is affected by their past trauma in relationships, scared of who they'll become in the future, and all while this is happening, they're silently breaking because of their trauma-induced desire to help people.
as we've analyzed the lyrics, i now want to talk about the double-layered metaphor i see here.
we can see that she is the drug at 2:20, where she opens herself up to show things that seem to help people, but this in of itself is also a metaphor for being forced to help people, to make people happy, therefore being a drug to them that they get addicted to. when it fails them, they get a new prescription.
tl:dr, this song is about gifted kids, how burnout affects them, trauma following you even after it's occurred, how that affects you, an overwhelming desire to please and get praise, and best of all, crazy pharmacists.
Wow..... I thought it was about the problems of being an artist, but this makes a lot more sense.
Wait,sweetheart pfp?
