It's the best desicion I've made about my life so far. I was working with a healthcare facility and HATED it three years of college down the drain. I hope this new career will bring me joy.
I was so lucky to go to a technical high school that offered cosmetology so I graduated high school with my cosmetology license at no cost. I am currently in college for something else and working at a salon. 3 years as a stylist!

I can absolutely understand not loving your job. I worked for USAA. I got paid good and stuff, but I was miserable AF. Now I’m about to start cosmetology school. ❤️

i feel like its a blessing you came up on my suggestions. I about to be a senior in college but just really feel like i need to end school and start cos school. im so conflicted. I don't want to waste the money my parents spent on school, but i just want to be starting my life and doing what i love!!
If you just have one year, pray Pray pray. Especially if you stay with your parents. Finish the last two semesters. After, enroll in the first class. I know how conflicting it can be, I am in my junior year so I’m taking off first semester and continuing second.
That's the exact position I was in. It's ultimately up to you, obviously - but I would meet with one of your advisors at school and find out if you could stop and come back later on if you change your mind. In my case, my college was in the process of changing the curriculum for my major. So if I left for a year or two and then tried to come back, I'd have to essentially start all over because most of my credits wouldn't have counted. So for me, I felt like the safest thing to do was to just finish. I suggest weighing out all of your options, making a pros and cons list, and then decide.
I know this video is a couple years old, but I really needed to hear it. I’m a mom of three and turning 33 soon and am considering going to cosmetology school for the 10 thousandth time in my life. It’s what I wanted to do as a child, as a teen and as an adult, but I was told to “go to real college” and get a degree in the medical field. After finishing all of my core classes in college I had no clue what to do and eventually stopped going and became a stay at home mom (which I do love). I didn’t want to waste time or money when I didn’t know what to do. It’s been a decade since then and my kids are getting older and that desire to be a hairstylist is still there. I’m worried about being able to balance the school hours, being older, and if I will actually like it. I appreciated your honesty and excitement in this video, thanks!
I'll b 37 when I finish it's never too late for an education!! Yes it's hard when the little ones get sick and having to support yourself but it's all worth it in the end 😃

amani c the college I'm going to is called ictc but I think theres only 3 of them. I've seen a lot of other people say that the are doing this. My advice would be to talk to your school counselor about it and see if there's anything like that you can do.

Been wanting to be an elementary school teacher for so long but cosmetology school has always peaked my interest. I have always gotten my hair professionally colored and have always used professional hair care products and the way I connect with my hair stylists through conversation has always made me want to go to cosmetology school even more. but my years in childcare and children's ministry has always been a passion of mine as well.

I start cosmo school on Tuesday! My story is similar to yours. I was always super good in high school and have amazing grades and then I went to college for nursing and I hated it. Finally a year after dropping out of school I’m starting what I actually want to do!
Im half way done with school right now. ( we need 1550 hours to graduate in my state). Im super excited to graduate and this video was super informative. Also, i started school a couple months before i turned 23 and most the girls in my class were right out of high school too. I had already went to college so I felt kind of old and couldn't connect with their personal 'problems' but then I realized there were other women who were moms in their 30s and 40s in school still.

The course you talked about in 104- I think it was called “prosper you”- the school I’m looking into has an entire section revolved around that. They get into marketing, social media, interpersonal skills, taking photos, building a website, etc. This is one of the biggest selling points of the school itself for me. It’s not a small school- it’s the Aveda Institute- but even some of the bigger schools don’t focus on this! I think it’s really important in our day & age to be taught at least an overview of how to actually sell not only your skills, but yourself as a stylist!
Every video of yours I watch makes me more & more sure of this decision I’m about to make (and the huge amount of debt I’m about to take on with tuition lol) because your passion really comes through in your videos! Thank you!!! ❤️💋

Can you share me which school you went to? And how's the school overall. Well, I'm planning to attend a cosmetology school abroad. I'm kinda perplexed about which school I should go to.
I’m in cosmo school and I hate it! My school only offers 5 days per week for all the programs so you can’t work. Part 1 one of the apprenticeship is unpaid. You cannot miss any class. Not to mention how expensive it is. Most of the people at my school have dropped out.

I’m starting cosmetology school in August and I’m 16. There is this program through my school where I can go to high school everyday then go to cosmetology school from 12-4:30 and it covers some of my required credits. So I can graduate with my diploma and cosmetology degree. My mom was maybe thinking to put it off another year but if I do it now it will only cost about 3,500-4,000$ and I’m so excited this really gets me all excited for August! You’re so fun and informative!

Thank you for this video!! I’m in the same position. I’m 25 with a bachelors in cyber security which I’m doing nothing with. I can’t even get an internship it’s so hard. I’ve been thinking about going to cosmetology school and the only thing stopping me is having another loan to pay for. I think I may go ahead and do it

This resonates with me so much. I did excellent in school and was even offered the opportunity to get a masters degree in business tuition-free. After almost 3 years in corporate America, I’m beginning to realize how deeply unhappy I am. All my hobbies include doing hair, nails, makeup, and skincare. I love meeting new people and helping people feel good about themselves. I’m still unsure of what to do with my future, but beauty school is definitely attractive to me.
I'm 34 and I've just now decided to go to cosmetology school. I might be the oldest one there but I'm excited about it and just want to do hair already! It's taken me a really long time to find out what my passion is. I've had other jobs but I never stuck around long because they just weren't for me. I know this video is 2 years old, but I just recently decided to start my career in Cosmetology after 2 years of feeling and being stuck not knowing what my purpose was or what it is I was supposed to be doing with my life. Aleigha_ bargutti It’s great! I’m only in my second week now so I’m still just learning some basic techniques, but I’m catching on pretty fast and have done well on my tests so far. I really enjoy it and even when it’s a little bit difficult or when the bookwork is kind of dry, because it something I really want to do I’m still very motivated to study and do well! So far so good.
Your experience of the schools just happened to me! I went to one that the classrooms felt like a creepy back room to a store and the admissions lady was so nice and loved her but the students weren’t friendly either. the school I decided on was aveda and it felt so professional and the classrooms were so beautiful.

Have you ever considered combining the two and becoming an aesthetics nurse... like doing botox and fillers? I think that stuff is so fascinating and if I had a medical background, I think that's the route I would have gone. But either way, you have to follow your heart!

Currently attending Metro Beauty Academy too! I'm enrolled in the Esthetics program and i related so much to trying to find a school. All the other schools were old and run down and not the right energy but as soon as i walked into Metro i knew it was the school for me. The hour and a half commute everyday is so worth it! Highly recommend for anyone that lives in PA

I graduated HS and didn’t know what I wanted to do and college was no option, school is not for me. I'm late to this video but it really speaks to me... I am into hair and beauty, I graduated college two years ago and I'm 24 now. With everything that has went on, I am not certain on what I should be doing and its so hard finding a job and I have been thinking about cosmetology school.... I have that same unsure feeling, like dang, I already went to school... I don't want to enter into this and then not make it or waste my money/time. This definitely was a good video that I just happened to fall upon! Your school seem really dope because the schools down here don't even teach weave, extensions, braiding, etc

I enjoyed the parties etc. but I always questioned whether I should’ve went with my first mind and going to Cosmetology school 😩 Like you said not many people make Cosmetology a successful career, which is why I went the traditional way. When I went to beauty school in 2011, Wisconsin actually used to require 1800 hours (I believe it’s 1550 now though because most other states do around 1500 hours on average), so mine took me about 11 months and I got out as soon as my hours and quota were done right on time. I wanted to get out of there ASAP. At my school you had to do every other Saturday, but I voluntarily did every Saturday because I thought it’d help me meet all my quota the fastest, which it did! I had a love/hate experience in school, but I was positive that it was what I was meant to do. And almost 9 years later it’s still what I do! Been a chair renter since 3 years in and wouldn’t change it for the world. 💕

I started September of this year and just graduated 😁 here in Canada, Ontario there’s 1500 hours of school then 2000 apprenticeship hours. After that is finished you can finally write your exam, interesting to hear what it’s like there. Anywho looking forward to more videos from you 🤩
I feel like it's a little too easy to get your license here, which is why so many people have horror stories in salons, unfortunately :(
Here in Switzerland it’s hell... so basically once you finish middle school (about 15/16 years old) you’ll start being a hair stylist apprentice, working for 4 days a week and 1 day of school... FOR 3 YEARS!!!!! And after the 3 years you’ll get a diploma as a hair stylist
Honestly, I think it should be that way! Over here, so many people get their license very quickly but they have no idea what the hell they're doing and then it takes a few years of actually working in a salon to really learn everything.
Omgosh, I always wanted to do hair but didn't start school until I was in my mid 30s! I'm 49 now and love what I do. ♡ we have to do 1600 hours here in Cali.

So you can take your state board test before you complete your hours? And you get a temporary license of you don't tske it before you graduate? That's so cool! Here, we had to complete the 1600 hours and then take our state board. And when I took it, we had to take a live model for the practical. Now they use doll heads.

I think people who go into cosmology forget is that it's not about how much you love hair and makeup. Its about how you can deliver those services to the public. Actually wanting to give a customer a great experience is more important than what you like. People who go into it are shocked when they realize they don't actually like dealing with the public or just have a bad attitude about it. Those people will fail no matter how good they are.

I'm 24 and going to graduate in May from a cosmetology school in PA definitely wish I would have known there was other cosmetology schools in my area I appreciate the tools and education I got but if I could have went back and did it all over again I definitely would have went somewhere else. Thank you for this video. You gave good tips and i still am thinking of doing the cosmetology thing. I can see myself doing this but im just scared. I was gonna do dental assistant program but its not in my heart. Ive checked out a few schools for cosmetology and theres one in interested in. My only worry is finding a job after and be able to make that money. But after watching this it has calmed my nerves a bit and still hope to do cosmetology soon. Thank you. I had the same worries, which I didn't really stress enough in the video. But trust me, there are options and you don't have to be completely broke right after school! Immediately after graduating, I was already making very close to what I was making at my marketing job, and that was with little to no clientele.

I too am licensed in the state of PA for cosmetology. The Walmart in my area smart style pays their stylists 725 an hour. The only way to make money as a stylist is either own your own place or work in a high end salon and have a lot of clients. It takes about two years to build up a clientele that you can actually make a living. Cosmetology schools are private for-profit businesses. They are only required to teach you how to pass the state board that’s it. Any further education that you will need to be a good stylist you will have to pay for it out of your own pocket without a student loan.
i was scared to start over w esty school at 24...i start in feb so im rebinging your old videos...i started following you while i was in college living vicariously through you going to school like I wanted to lol...finally bit the bullet. The school I chose is super old run down kinda janky on the inside. the nice school in the mall is twice the cost and has more students but its so much shorter and i heard lots of bad reviews about the instructors from past students and rave reviews about the janky school I chose lol. I'm hoping it's much better for education and hands on work and the good reputation will be beneficial with first jobs

Hailie Marie if you get your esthetician license and become an rn you can do botox and things like that in dermatology offices
Started art school but had to drop out after moving out of my family's house. I'm gonna go into cosmetology now. Almost a year after graduating highschool and try to do something I love

I've been thinking about going to cosmetology school lately but im waiting a bit to make sure its not just a random hobby im into for a short period of time.
I really wanted to go to cosmetology school but it is so expensive, so I went to nail tech school which is way less money to see if I liked it before I made the investment in Beauty school. I kept my full time job and went to school part time in the evening. Now I have my nail tech license and can make money that way and plan to enroll in cosmetology or esthetician school soon

I went back to school last year to do something completely different, and I'm definitely in a better position now than if Id started this degree straight out of high school.
