Man I’m in cosmetology school and the truth is you could be doing everything right and it’s always that one person that wants to cause drama. I try my hardest to avoid it. The best I can tell anyone is to let it go and remember why you started.
It’s always the older biotches in their 50-60s who start drama with younger girls in the industry and put themselves on a pedestal. Always starting problems and drama . Want to quit this salon
Mags Yak yeah, I’ve experienced that. It’s frustrating. I have nothing but respect for stylists who have been doing this their whole lives. But at the same time, this is an industry that is always changing, so if you’re not putting in the effort to stay educated and up to date, you CANT act like you know it all. And there’s no reason to hate on younger stylists regardless, because we all have to start somewhere!
i’ve experienced this outside of the beauty industry too. it’s just the old ones that are miserable and mad that we’re making the same money even with the age gap 🙄
I am 50 years old , been a hairstylist since 2004 and i wish i knew it all. I am in school now for my instructor license in cosmetology and the reason I am passionate about becoming an instructor is because I love encouraging younger stylist and seeing the talent. I have seen some amazing talent from hairstylist that are new to the industry fresh out of school and it’s really exciting honestly. I have also learned some really cool stuff from them as well. In the beauty industry I am not sure if its possible to learn everything and some just specialize in one thing and perfect it but are very successful cause they get well known for what they specialize in.
There’s drama everywhere i don’t understand why we women can’t just get all along there’s always have to be envy and jealousy. Which is why I always same try to avoid drama and ignore .
Yuliana Muñiz agreed!! Especially when you work together or in the same industry. We all clearly have things in common, we’re passionate about the same things... so why don’t we just get along??!!
I’m 150 hours out from graduating cosmo school, myself, and this has been my experience. Drama seems to be unavoidable. My class specifically is a good mix of girls fresh out of high school all the way to lower 30’s. I’m 29 now and came in with your same mindset that I’m there to learn and be the best I can be as a beautician. I actually do really well and take my time on my work and it shows. The girls who half assed theirs were quick to spin tails and started drama to make you feel horrible for being good at what you do. I hated that but in the end, I’m keeping in mind that I’m doing this for me and my kids so I’m not letting their cattiness get to me.
The salon that I work at has a total of 4 employees and we all get along so well! We run as a family and as equals, which is a HUGE change from the salon I worked for previously! As far as my cosmetology school, there is SO. MUCH. DRAMA! I just try to keep to myself and stay out of it all and remember that it’s just a means to an end to get to do what I love!
I'm a bartender. The drama in restaurants IS REAL. I thought there was something wrong with the place I worked, until I changed jobs and it was that way there too. It's always good advice to not participate. And if it ever does involve you, address it professionally. Gossipers and shit starters arent use to having someone call them out and they are generally too scared to do it again
These people are so sad. I noticed that most of the time, when you kill them with kindness, it either angers them or they just don't know how to deal with it.
At my school it seems like the older girls want to start drama with the younger ones. I just stay in my own lane haha Could you do a video on how to be efficient in selling product like how to not be pushy, educating the client etc. ?
Same! When I was in school, my esthetician instructor of all people (49), started drama with a fellow student (17) and it was awful because there was only 5 of us in a class so it felt like there was no escaping it 😭
You are just glowing! Yes, drama is ridiculous in salons. Usually I kept to myself, and then...I became the manager of my salon. OMG. I was a babysitter, a therapist, and a cage match referee lol The level of crazy drama was so high, I stuck it out for almost 2 years, and then I quit all together! Couldn't take it! I watch your videos to reminisce, love that! Thanks for what u do! ❤
Jasmine Marie oh no! 😆 That’s why I’m SO grateful I found the salon where I’m at now and it’s so small and drama free. I can’t handle that stuff either!!
When I went to dental assisting school I had no friends. They didnt like me for some reason. Anyway, I have one semester left for Dental Hygiene school and I will have my Bachelors degree. Whose laughing now?!?!?!?
As a high schooler, it still surprises me that drama doesn't end after you graduate. You would think people would mature and just do what they need to do to get places in life. I still hear work drama from my family members and how 30-50 year old adults can still act like teenagers
Lol in the salon I work at ...we have an issue with a 63 yr old stylist that creates drama all the time..I ignore her and pisses her off more because she likes the attention... So I avoid that crap in all ways
Angela .S lol good!! I always find that’s the best thing to do. It keeps you out of trouble, brings less stress into your life, AND pisses off the person that’s annoying you. It’s a win-win! 😂
I have a story EXACTLY like yours when I first started cosmetology school! This girl tried to say I said this other girl “tried too hard” when I literally never said that lol we talked about it and she apologized for making that up and we were good after that but it was so weird and unnecessary
Hey Sam! I just discovered your channel & ive been binge watching your videos💕 I’m a hairstylist in a smaller town & have only been doing hair for just over a year. I am living for your content & cant wait to see what other videos you put out!! 💜💜💜
Believe me it's also in corporate, I came from beauty therapy, to Fashion then Corporate. Best thing I have learnt is to focus on whether you are enjoying what you are doing and on growth. People with drama, steer straight away. Great video 👏🌻🥰
I remember when I went to makeup school there was literally the most drama I’d ever seen. I remember these two girls who didn’t get along almost got into a fist fight in the middle of class while the instructor was teaching and we were all getting ready to step in and break them up.
Omg I love your mentality and level of maturity! I'm Lmost done with my ba in sociology and currently work at a group home for teenage girls but im planning on starting cosmo school in the fall and I'm soooooo on the same boat as u lol drama is so unnecessary when we already have clear vision of our goals in mind 🥰
I needed to watch the video. Seriously love all your videos btw. ❤️I’m a receptionist at a salon and there is always so much drama. I’m not there for it. People constantly come to me to tell me what’s going on and I’m not there to a petty, and get involved with their drama. Like they even try to come at me for certain things. Which I have just learned to walk away or go home and vent to my family. I really just want to do my job to the best of my ability and make sure our clients are happy. But I am to the point I think it would be best if I just moved on somewhere else.
almost the same situation happened to me on my high school volleyball team. (volleyball is the biggest dramafest hence why i left my senior and enjoyed a lovely season of cross country) but any how- i make a comment about how one of my team mates served in a game, a COMMENT, for EVERYONE to hear, no gossip no snide remark. Her poor decision in her serve practically ended the game for us. Her little friend heard what i said and went and told her immediately after the game. a few minutes later while were packing up our water bottles and clipboards this team mate walks up to me, gets in my face (like inches from my face real mean girl shit) and said "its not very NICE to talk shit about your team mates when youre on the *bench*" and then storms off. she really thought she must have been hot shit? this whole situation really upset me because i loved volleyball and most of the girls on the team but this was one of many situations and i was fed up. i am also super non-confrontational, i loved sports in high school i was always the happy go lucky team mate who would goof off and lighten the mood, but this chick had it out for me for some reason. thank you for coming to my ted talk.
I worked as a caregiver for 2 years and omg it was the worst 2 years of my life! I'm normally an outspoken person. I dont let people take advantage of me nor do I stay shy. But at this job I was so to myself. Everything you said is accurate! I would hear things and keep it to myself and rant to my bf. I would just act like nothing was going on till I get home. Keep in mind this company I worked at consist of 99.9% women. And even though I was to myself, i still found myself in drama for people not liking me just because I was the "better worker" and got more recognition than them. I was hated on for literally doing my job well. Anyways, this video brought back old feelings of my old job and everything you said was on point. I was yelling, yasssssssssss girlllll to everything lol.
Oh god, I have dealt with this sort of crap before where I used to work. It's usually just the trashy girls trying to start stuff with the quiet, serious one because they are jealous of their work ethic for some reason. 🙃 I just don't talk to anyone anymore unless I need to, and everyone thinks I am a snob, oh well.
I’m about to start cosmetology school, I’m nervous about possible drama but I’m just going to keep to myself until I get a feel for how everyone is and know them more b4 I even try and be friends. I’m there to learn not make friends so if I don’t make friends no big deal. But this video helped so I know there probably will be drama and to be careful
Man ! Girls are so damn petty. I live in southern california, San Diego county. I went to beauty school in 2012, and omg the way some of these girls act and treat each other. And you're right it's just saying one thing that gets totally twisted... it's awful and they bring it up all God damn yr. I literally stayed chilling with the older girls and the dude there, cause the young ones are so high school drama... I'm not into it. I've never dealt with drama like that since school. My goodness. Lol some ppl are so bored in life. Xo thank you for sharing 🌹❤💋
Girl holy sh*t that’s the exact stuff I went through at my first job @ mcdonalds so much cattiness with the girls who were around my age always talking stuff about me rolling eyes slamming doors and stuff🤣🤣 I never once said or did anything to these people but I dealt with it the EXACTT same way you did. Held it in for my boyfriend or mom to hear🤣🤣 I got a much better and fancier job so jokes on them anyway, taking the higher horse.
I legit am so fucking excited that I’ve found your channel! I’ve been binging you 24.7 since I’ve found you last night!! Stylist of 15 years since 2008! Love love love you & your tips and the way you speak! I’m from Ohio but moved to Asheville NC in 2016! 💕
girllll we had drama on my FIRST day of cosmetology school. those girls are always out for me but what you said about ignoring them really does piss them off and they definitely have left me alone now because they can’t get anything out of me lol you should also make more videos like this
Giiiirl I had something so similar happen to me in cosmetology school. I had a girl confront me for “talking shit” about her hours all because the trouble maker in our class decided to stir something up. Same thing happened where the two of them pulled me outside to discuss it. Just terrible lol please tell me why I’d even care to comment on someone else’s hours. I’m there to do my own hours I could care less how many someone else has. So much petty drama in cosmetology school!
That happened at the nursing home I worked at as a cna. It felt like high school. My mom was a vice president of a greeting card company and always said that she would rather work with a room full of men than one woman (because of that situation).
I graduated from hair school last year. There was 22 of us who started and 17 who finished. It was drama everyday. There were probably 5-7 of us 21 or under (I went straight after highschool) and the rest were 25-32 and they were the dramatic ones lol. I had two of the girls who were 29 got really rude and mean to me. 29 year olds trying to bully a 19 year old. I got lucky and met my best friend who we are the only ones who still talk from school.
Yup there’s definitely drama in any cosmetology school. I’m one of the gayz lol and I was just there to complete my nail tech license so I steered clear of the drama. One time these 2 girls almost got into a fight! But they just yelled at each other. Another time this 1 girl started talking smack to another girl in front of me and I just ignored it lol it honestly never involved me because I never really sought out drama. I was like the funny one. But if you just are friendly and don’t feed the drama it won’t really affect you. P.S. oh I forgot and keep your tools always near you or else they’ll “mysteriously” disappear!
I get what you mean about cattiness, but there's drama among straight men too. I assure you! I work in a male-dominated field and my entire life have only had jobs working with mostly very conventional dudes. It often happens differently, but hoo boy--it's intense. 😂
Holy crap same with my job! We were all great and then the older women starting crap for NO REASON and just started stirring drama like this between us, anyway the younger ones ended up talking like mature adults between ourselves and realized the older women just like starting crap
A lot of beauty gurus or people in the beauty youtube group could've really used this advice like years ago. For real, and it's not even like uncommon knowledge that you should be professional involving your job or career either
What if it’s the teachers cussing out students on the salon floor, treating autistic students like they’re either deaf or defective, calling them disrespectful and saying they just do whatever they want because of the way Neurodivergents process information?
I went to nursing school, and I wish I could say you’re wrong. They’re similar demographics but I don’t believe it’s the gender/sexuality I truly think it’s really just certain people.
I feel like you just told my story almost verbatim. 😆 I'm the same and I agree with everything you said. I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm looking at the bigger picture while I'm in school. Forget what everyone else is doing.
You want drama? Try attending the Sassoon Academy in LA. When I went there three decades ago, my class was full of former models, former cosmetology school students that attended crappy schools and didn't have enough education to make it, and a bunch of females in male genitalia that wanted to marry a rich male stylist. I was a 19-year old naive country girl from Tennessee that nobody wanted to associate with, until I became the top student in the class and got to do work with the pros at Columbia and 20th Century Fox. As owner of multiple salons in upscale areas, the best thing I have ever done is not to hire stylists looking to come to one of my salons, but instead to recruit the best overall stylists with the proper attitudes from other salons. As I sell my salons to move from SoCal to Tennessee, I am proud that every full time stylist working in my salons is making 6-figures, and my three managers will have quarter-million dollar incomes in 2019. Hope to catch up with your videos in January when we are Tennesseans living near Nashville. 2020 will bring an incredible upscale salon to Franklin, TN with four former stars from WeHo.
That’s why I left a free standing Sephora. (10 + years)43 years old and don’t have time for immaturity. Customers tell me that they don’t shop there anymore cause of the immaturity of the staff. I was tired of it and moved on to better things with my clients!
Don't let that stop you from going to school though .. after graduation you won't have to see them again. Just stay to yourself and go there For you ! Good luck u got this 💕
Man I’m in cosmetology school and the truth is you could be doing everything right and it’s always that one person that wants to cause drama. I try my hardest to avoid it. The best I can tell anyone is to let it go and remember why you started.
Angela Yamba same here I just keep telling myself don’t get involved, keep to yourself! And remember why your here!

It’s the same with ladies in the office environment, it’s always the middle age ladies that start the drama

So true that there is a book called 'Mean Girls MEANER Women'.
We stan an unproblematic Queen 😂🙌🏻
These people are so sad. I noticed that most of the time, when you kill them with kindness, it either angers them or they just don't know how to deal with it.
that’s what happened to me! i was always known for my kindness and two of the girls always try to ruin my reputation :(
At my school it seems like the older girls want to start drama with the younger ones. I just stay in my own lane haha
Could you do a video on how to be efficient in selling product like how to not be pushy, educating the client etc. ?
Yesss! One of my classmates (around 34) started beef with a friggin 19 year old ?? 🙄

I can not refrain from commenting about how absolutely stunning you are. You look SO classy and beautiful!
This is an absolute look. You're beautiful!

Love your hair dark!
I was run out of my school that I went to because of all the bullshit, students and teachers actively pushed me out and excluded me so I’d leave
Omg
That’s happening to me right now. I’m auDHD and they want me gone
You are definitely an old soul and this is not your first rodeo, very smart young woman 🤗❤️✨
I graduated from hair school last year. There was 22 of us who started and 17 who finished. It was drama everyday.
Love the lipstick with the hair! What lipstick are you wearing? It’s beautiful ❤️
Kaylynn it's in the description 😊
I get what you mean about cattiness, but there's drama among straight men too. I assure you! I work in a male-dominated field and my entire life have only had jobs working with mostly very conventional dudes. It often happens differently, but hoo boy--it's intense. 😂
Holy crap same with my job! We were all great and then the older women starting crap for NO REASON and just started stirring drama like this between us, anyway the younger ones ended up talking like mature adults between ourselves and realized the older women just like starting crap
Such Professionalism! 💕
A lot of beauty gurus or people in the beauty youtube group could've really used this advice like years ago. For real, and it's not even like uncommon knowledge that you should be professional involving your job or career either
love it!
I’m starting school in spring, everyone keeps telling me to get my barber license as well. Suggestions, or advise?
GIRL your makeup is gorgeous. What lip product(s) are you using??
Thank you! It's linked in the description!

Emily Langan it’s linked in the description! And I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos! Thanks for watching 😊
You look so preety!! 😍
Same thing happened to me in nursing school. She got expelled
I love your lip color. What color and brand is it?
Maybe also bc u worked in the corporate world...
What blush and bronzer are you wearing? :)
Hi!💕 Can you tell me the length of your necklace?! Thank you!
Jasmine Richey I don’t remember which one I got. I want to say 18” though!
I know you weren't stereotyping but men bring just as much drama with them. Society is just conditioned to view it as competition.
Your gloss 💞
That’s quite a story
Nice video you've going here.
When they don't want to do their part to clean...... Anybody else?
Your necklace is so pretty, what is it? You are so beautiful.
Thank you! It's linked in the description.
wtf is wrong with these catty people starting shit for literally no reason
😍😍😍
There gonna be 20 girls in my class lol
I’m in Cosmo school rn in high school
That’s why I left a free standing Sephora. (10 + years)43 years old and don’t have time for immaturity. Customers tell me that they don’t shop there anymore cause of the immaturity of the staff.
I was tired of it and moved on to better things with my clients!
I really wanted to go to cosmetology school so I went to the open house and the staff, the students EVERYONE!!!! Was so stuck up and rude.
Don't let that stop you from going to school though .. after graduation you won't have to see them again. Just stay to yourself and go there For you ! Good luck u got this 💕
OMG!
High school cosmetology is so much worse
You’re so beautiful and sweet 💜
L R thank you so much!

We are learning from people who have hair and love to take care of it on RUclips... A clear face is a youthful one... SAVE YOUR MONEY!
