- In this video I will be showing you how to tie TWO of my go to warmwater patterns on a budget! I tie Kevin Hutchinson's Llano Bug and Matt Bennett's Carp-it-bomb using materials I had on hand. This video will show you how I improvise and streamline my tying process. I encourage you to read Kevin Hutchinson's book "Fly Fishing the Texas Hill Country" and visit Matt Bennett's website "flygeek.net" to order some Carp-it Bombs for yourself. I tie my cheap versions mainly with materials I have on hand, but for the best options seek information from the originators and order some flies while you are at it! The materials I used in this video are below:
Hook: Umpqua U-Series U203 3XL
Thread: Veevus 8/0 Olive
Dubbing: Dave Whitlock's SLF Dragonfly
Eyes: Hareline Beadchain Eyes Medium
Rubber Legs: MFC Centipede Legs Brown and Tan
Foam: Hareline 2mm Fly Foam Yellow
Wing: Nature's Spirit Elk Hair
Tail: Hareline Blood Quill Marabou Olive Brown

Nice flies and great idea .
My go To's here in northern Missouri are the bream killer, the black leach ,purple leach ,and black ants
I'm a Texas warmwater fisherman my self, so I find this info very useful. I can see the nymph pattern being an all around go-to fly.
Howdy! I appreciate the feedback. Yes, the nymph pattern is one of my favorites.
Awesome video & great information, your words are true, walk into any fly shop & prepare to be mind blow'n between the flies available & materials,my theory is always KISS principle ( keep it simple stupid) hasn't failed me yet,add a wolly bugger (whatever color) & clouser minnow & wham you're set for warm water, tight lines & bent rods 🤙
Really nice simple patterns. Thanks!
Thank you for watching!!
Just came across your channel - and really enjoyed your presentation. Two very nice patterns. You’ve got a new subscriber!
Thank you for watching and thank you for subscribing!!!
These patterns look right up my alley! The only trout around me (South Jersey) are stocked in ponds, and I mostly fly fish for panfish and bass
I'm willing to try just about anything within reason, and I adjust size and colors for my home water's.
I'm also a budget fly fisherman, and O'm always lookout for fying materials on the cheap. I've bought a bag of bead chain pretty cheap, and I've used paint brush bristles in place of deer or elk hair for wings.
These look simple and effective, so I can't wait to try them this spring!
I am glad the video helped show you some new patterns! Thank you for watching!
Great vid
I appreciate you giving it a watch! Thank you
Love your videos. When you are fishing for bass and bluegill what rod wt, leader and tippet are you using.
Thank you for watching! In Creeks I normally go 2x leader and alternate between my favorite 3wt and 4wt rods.
Do you get your supplies from Amazon? Great video thanks.
You sure can! I use Avidmax
na that celling fan chain was already short like that lol
That’s what I always say lol
if you use yarn black you can save a ton of money and a coffee grinder check youtube vids
Definitely something I have thought about. Making your own dubbing blends would be fun.
Great except for the annoying music.
I always feel conflicted when adding music
@@Texcoflyfisher Don't feel conflicted. Too many video creators think music adds something. And yes I might agree if it is a pure fishing video. But an instructional video is a totally different format. Think back to school, did your classroom setting have music playing as the teacher was teaching? Not unless it was music class. Don't force the viewers mind to wonder if it should focus on the music or the instruction. It becomes a distraction at that point and actually defeats the purpose of the video. Why would you want to do that? Any video with the express purpose of teaching, don't add music, keep the "student"s" mind focused on the essential points you are making and leave it at that. In this video, I agree with David Surwell it is extremly annoying. On your point of keeping it simple with just some basic flies to save money is 100% spot on.
