Man, I hear that a lot! Really don't know why people talk shit about it. Rewind back to 1976, when I first picked up my brothers Tele...it took me a school year to learn "Wish you were here" and "Stairway to heaven". LOT of house parties back then, and at every party, I would find a guitar in the house, and play those two songs. I haven't slept alone since!!! So, here is to you Jimmy, thanks for "Stairway to Heaven", and 50+ other awesome tunes that I will continue to play on my Tele/SG and Les Paul!!!
Careful.., ....it will grow on you! It's like saying, "I didn't go in to the music shop to buy a piano but..." (Kind of how I ended up with a guitar pickup and an OC3)!
I just purchased this guitar and all I can say is "Wow!".... This is MY GUITAR. I love that it feels more comfortable than my Fender Stratocaster and allows me to play it all on one guitar. I couldn't be happier. I'm so inspired that I'm sure to improve my playing skills because I don't have to change out guitars from Acoustic to Electric anymore. I can jam with the one and play anything I want. 🥳🤭😊🥰🥰🥰🥰
this tele in particular feels like a lot of thought went into this. different wood on different positions of the pickup switch and the A/B knobs, giving versatility to the soundscape in tone for folk, country, or whatever acoustic range a player can find. sounds great with effects and the bends in this baby is a trait rare in some acoustic builds. I just wish these dudes would push some boundaries unless they're trying to hide the flaws.
This is exactly the innovation I have been waiting for Fender to come out with over the past 15 years. I stopped playing guitar mostly because I got tired of lugging around my electric rig everywhere...but not ever finding the right electric/acoustic also. After 3 years of blowing money and time buying and selling electric/acoustic guitars and lugging my rig everywhere...I threw up my hands and quit playing. I think this will get me back in the game. I started saving for it yesterday. Thank you Fender...you've done it again.
My review of the actual guitar: First let me say, I had high hopes for this. I play in a country rock band with lots of guitar changes during our set. This disrupts the flow of the show quite a bit. While I would never use something like this in a studio setting, I saw this as a potential solution for me on stage. I ordered one. When it arrived, I unpacked it and played for about 30 minutes, and decided it wasn’t for me. Why? Well, first the good part: It really does sound great plugged in. There are several good, useable acoustic sounds, and the Tele pickup is also passable. What I didn’t like was the tone/blend knob layout. In a live situation, where I’m singing lead, and trying to switch between electric and acoustic sounds, there is no way, in some combinations, to switch back and forth with ease. It would require carefully switching the 5-way to the right position, and then making sure the blend knob was in the right setting. WAY too much to think about, when the whole point was to try and simplify. This sort of switching might be great in a studio setting, where you have a lot of time to tweak and find just the right sound, as in the video above. But I have great vintage “real” acoustic guitars that I would much prefer to record with... As I said, this was supposed to be for live playing. Also, I really didn’t like the feel of the guitar. I could not escape the feeling that I was playing a Baby Taylor. It doesn’t feel like an acoustic, and it doesn’t feel like an electric... so, does it feel like an old pair of jeans? Uh, no. Look, guitars are very personal beasts. To feel comfort on stage, you’ve got to have something in your hands that feels familiar. This couldn’t have felt more foreign to me. And, it did not have the feel of a high end guitar (read price tag). This felt like something that should be under 1k. I’m sorry to say that, and I’m not one of the “looks new/different and therefore can’t be good” haters who have lined up here to poopoo on Fender’s parade. I’m just writing this in the hope of dissuading people from ordering this online and having to return it; a gamble i wittingly entered into, and lost $114 in return shipping costs. If you think you may be interested in this, GO PLAY ONE IN A STORE. Don’t buy it online. Fender gets extra points for development and innovation. I just don’t think it quite landed. At least not for me. YMMV. Cheers.
Great post. It does sound pretty good plugged in and the nice thing about it is you can just plug it into a regular amp and get some really decent acoustic sounds . I wasn't really impressed with the electric sound and unplugged it sounds like shit. I do actually like the guitar and would consider buying it if it was a lot cheaper. 2 grand it's just ridiculous for this guitar. I don't see the need to have this guitar made in America and cost $2000 when they could've easily made it in Korea and charged 800 bucks for it . To me it's just a novelty guitar that I could be coaxed into buying at the right price but at $2000 fender is not even in the ballpark.
Great review, sir. I started scroll down when I heard it play unplugged. I think you are right, that indeed this is an overpriced guitar. Real acoustic guitars sound & feel better.
I liked the honest review - very clear and objective. An acoustic feels a big, lightweight hollow thing with a fatter neck, unlike an electric that has a slimmer, heavier, tougher feel. This is a hybrid of acoustic and electric - it won't feel the same BUT with time, you could get use to it. I always play a strat, then it took ages to get use to playing a Les Paul. But eventually I did. I absolutely loved some of the acoustic sounds and when blended from A to B position. BUT how does it feel in your hands to play acoustic style songs on an electric neck? that will be my concern. I could imagine playing funk guitar on this. It is pricey ...... they have to pay for all of the R&D but the all timber finish looks pretty damn good. Unrelated, I liked that silverface Deluxe Reverb amp. Why did he need all the pedals when going electric - not necessary. I am sure any pedal will make it sound more electric ..... and wonderful. Again, thanks - I will try before I buy. Why did you do an on-line order anyway?
So far I'm sold. Will have to get a few in my hands to experience for myself before I decide whether I'll bring one into my life or pass, but I do love the versatility of this instrument. Been wanting both a traditional Tele and a Martin 00015M. While this doesn't exactly sound like the Martin, it could still fit my minimal acoustic needs while giving me some Tele twang when needed, so I'm excited about playing one of these. My only lingering question is... how much?? I appreciate that Fender is trying to innovate. That must be challenging when you essentially have to redress the same basic product line over decades. This is how you stay fresh. Hoping this instrument lives up to the positive buzz I've been feeling so far.
Finally, something new. We all have our favorites but something new has been added. I already have enough guitars to cover just about everything I like, but I don't have one of these. That may change.
Finally got my hands on one of these at my local shop today; they had just gotten two in yesterday. Tone and looks are subjective, so your (or my) opinion on the matter is worthless to anyone else. Personally I dig the look, and the tones in person are great (RUclips videos mangle sound quality). I spent a good half hour playing it into a Princeton and loved it; also gathered some curious and interested lookers-on. Everyone there came away a fan and I came away owning one of them. My use case is a solo singer/songwriter type of schtick and being able to switch back and forth between acoustic and electric while only schlepping one axe is pure gold. Again, YMMV, but I found the sound across all 10 settings, direct into amp with neutral EQ, to be stellar.
Mark Dyson I disagree, your opinion is perfectly valid! It’s cool to relate your experience. I am looking forward to trying one myself in a store. Can I ask what type of strings do you use for it? Anyway I am glad to see the opinion of someone who has actually played it. Cheers
Jason Guion Thanks! Reckon I’m just reacting to all the folks who post their personal opinions like they’re fact. Irritating. It came strung with Fender acoustic 11s and I’m going to leave them be for starters. Gigging with it tonight which will tell me a lot.
@@jasong546 Gig went well. Played mostly acoustic blues set on position 3 with the resonance pickup dialed in about 40%. Tone was stellar. Did some Tele-style electric lead stuff as well, swapping back and forth was effortless. This design is a complete and total win for me. Got many compliments on the tone and some folks might be looking to get one of these for themselves.
I have a 2012 Fender Strat deluxe which are apparently worth about $1600 used on reverb and $2k to guitar shop. Played it forever. Know it’s an amazing guitar but couldn’t figure it out. Thought maybe I’m an acoustic guy but played one for all of 5 mins and knew that body shape is NOT me. So I was like maybe bass my friend said it’s easier to get started on. I do like the funk of of a jazz bass but still. Just doesn’t feel me. Doesn’t feel right. I went into a local guitar store today and saw one of these hanging on the way. I played one A, E, G chord. Literally that simple just stroked all 3 notes and yep. 100% favorite guitar I’ve ever touched, heard, looked at, saw the price tag was $1995.00 there for the American version so knew I had to save a bit. Went home and looked on reverb, and a shop in Cape Coral was selling one for $1095 SHIPPED! It had only been up 1 hour and was already in 7 other peoples checkout carts. For that price, I could see why. Needless to say, it’ll be to my house in 2-3 business days. LOLOL sorry guys! Ya snooze, ya lose! I CANT FUCKING WAIT!!!
I think this would be the perfect guitar for the stage. Also for looping. It would certainly mean I would only need to bring one or two guitars instead of the four acoustic and two electrics I bring now (or whenever the whole Corona virus deal is over and we can all get back to playing live. The only drawback would be my wife would rather I break my back hauling a bunch of instruments then tonbuy a new one.
I just bought mine and am looking forward to playing it, but please, Fender, PLEASE, can you widen your selection of left-handed models and wood types? Or make a Player version in left-handed? We lefties are always getting the fuzzy end of the lollipop!
I like the idea of the Acoustasonic because it feels like an electric guitar, but has that genuine acoustic sound that you can’t get from a clean guitar but at the same time, acoustic guitars don’t really feel too comfortable for me because of how widebodied they are. I definitely am intrigued and want to at least play it before I get it.
This guitar seems like it was built for me. Recently, I went to the guitar center to try out both a Stratocaster and a Telecaster, and I was not impressed by either one. What I was looking for tonally simply wasn't there. I currently own a Martin D10e and a Fender Newporter, so I guess I'm a bit spoiled. This guitar is much richer than a pure electric guitar. Finally, a guitar that you can play CCR and Beethoven on, simply by turning a knob.
I've got to be honest about this. It's amazing except when unplugged when the shallow body restricts resonance from the small sound hole. It's probably OK for practice but give me Larrivee acoustic every time.
OK...I'm looking around right now, what can I sell so I can get this...my car, my house, my kids. An acoustic guitar that sounds that good, in a Tele.....wow.
Hello Guys, What Fender affordable amp would you suggest for this guitar ? I mean a versatile amp that can cover all acoustasonic player telecaster mods. Thanks for your help !
The B position has more output, so it sounds louder and fuller. However, sometimes less is more, and to get more acoustic tones you dont want as much output.
Hi, I recently purchased this guitar. Is it normal to have a volume difference in between tones I’m talking about 20% to 50% volume difference between tone to tone?
All the sounds seem to suffer from a boxy, banjo like undertone very similar to a line 6 Variax - I think the lack of air and resonance in the body is a big issue for an ' acoustic' guitar - looks nice though.
I was looking for the correct words to describe it and you nailed it. Whatever setting it is on, it lacks depth, the bass sounds forced and the highs sound very tinny. It reminds me of a combo, Chet Atkins SST/Taylor T5 but just much worse and hollow. Great concept though and for gigging it would be adequate. I will stick with the D28 and 714ce.
Heh. It's kind of funny: on other videos folks were complaining about the use of fancy jazzy chords that most players don't even know. So, someone sticks to bread and butter chords and still comes the complaining. Shows you can't win. :-)
I've bought 2 of these guitars love them but I've had to send them both back. The jack keeps coming unplugged in mid play.im a professional musician and cant really afford to have this happen at my shows.I'm use the same L shaped jack that i use on my acoustic guitars and have no problems with it.Am I doing something wrong or is this a common problem with the Mexican made acoustasonic.
When I first saw this guitar, I was instantly hooked, I guessed it would of been worth around $800 - $1200 not $2000 ($3800 in Australia) man come on!! Fender people ask for cheaper models but what do you do? Make more exotic more expensive models that the average guitar player can’t afford. I love ya Fender but I can buy a car with a couple weeks of registration with that price tag, and I’m not even kidding.
Expensive is subjective. Some people settle for a $2000 car, some $20,000...then there are those who get the $200,000 cars. Has it ever crossed your mind how silly it is to cry about product tiers that exist in just about everything we buy? Also, this guitar is mediocre at best. Sounds utterly boring, and brings no inspiration whatsoever. I picked one up a few months ago..."huh, what the hell is this??" I put it down after a few chords. Bleah. Be thankful you couldn't afford it ;)
The action of this one seems quite high. Can the saddle be set up to some extent otherwise it's just a piece of electric digital and wood material. Honestly, it did not sound good to me.
Freddie Handley music Overpriced, I agree. But it’s probably because it’s a new concept and they haven’t developed a cost-efficient manufacturing method yet. If I were to put an accurate price on it, I’d say maybe $900.
What is you favorite feature on the Acoustasonic?

Is there a way to get rid of the piezo twang? I was thinking about buying one for recording but that twang is a dealbreaker.
Hats off to Fender for pushing the envelope. This technology will only get better. Like the idea.

I've got to be honest about this. It's amazing except when unplugged when the shallow body restricts resonance from the small sound hole. It's probably OK for practice but give me Larrivee acoustic every time.
How do you split acoustic sounds to a mixer and guitar tones to a amp??
A/B box
OK...I'm looking around right now, what can I sell so I can get this...my car, my house, my kids. An acoustic guitar that sounds that good, in a Tele.....wow.
Fender please make such bass
Hello Guys, What Fender affordable amp would you suggest for this guitar ? I mean a versatile amp that can cover all acoustasonic player telecaster mods. Thanks for your help !
It does sound great!! but I can't see the point in the 'A' knob position. Cause everytime he switches to 'B' it just sounds better and fuller!
The B position has more output, so it sounds louder and fuller. However, sometimes less is more, and to get more acoustic tones you dont want as much output.
Hi, I recently purchased this guitar. Is it normal to have a volume difference in between tones I’m talking about 20% to 50% volume difference between tone to tone?
great guitar
I like this what an amazing guitar
The only thing I like about it is the body sensing pickup to do percussive stuff. I think I'll stick with my Taylor acoustic lol. ;)
Sounds impressive. But I'd have to try one in a store to be bettered convinced. We'll see.
I really love these!
Position 3A sounds the best.... is there a way to get the selector to stop on 3A without using a piece of tape?
Pretty Amazing!
Very well. But does it DJENT tho?
Hi, which fender ampli is best suited for an Acoustasonic? Tks
6:19 Ok, you convinced me, I'll buy it.
Oh wait I haven't got money.
SebasM or you could buy a Squier Tele lol
lot of people missing the point with this guitar, it is new and different. and thank god very , very light .on your shoulder.
How is the bending action on one of these? I bend my strings frequently and hard! Is it similar to an electric guitar?
Is there a maple fretboard option?
hello. What strings for this guitar? Acoustic or electric?
Witek5555 yes.
Yes
They recommend acoustic phosphor bronze
Can you get separate outputs for the acoustic and magnetic pickups respectively? For the magnetic, do zebra strings give more tone?
Can you please make a fender acoustasonic jazzmaster
All the sounds seem to suffer from a boxy, banjo like undertone very similar to a line 6 Variax - I think the lack of air and resonance in the body is a big issue for an ' acoustic' guitar - looks nice though.
I was looking for the correct words to describe it and you nailed it. Whatever setting it is on, it lacks depth, the bass sounds forced and the highs sound very tinny. It reminds me of a combo, Chet Atkins SST/Taylor T5 but just much worse and hollow. Great concept though and for gigging it would be adequate. I will stick with the D28 and 714ce.
play another g chord why don’t you
God forgive him
dont hes just learnt wonderwall
Heh. It's kind of funny: on other videos folks were complaining about the use of fancy jazzy chords that most players don't even know. So, someone sticks to bread and butter chords and still comes the complaining. Shows you can't win. :-)
@@MarkDyson poopoo
@@laylaeatstrees8689 Heh. What are you, like eight? :-)
Do you have to switch amps when switching from dirty to acoustic?
They should make this model in squier as well
just got mine today
3B sounds soooo good
I want one very badly!
High e string is not amplified enough. Sent it back, got another one, same issue. Anyone experienced this? What is the solution? Thank you
4:30 goo goo tunes?
I really like it, the blend with acoustic and electric
If only I had the money to get one of these beasts
When will Fender make left handed versions of the acoustasonic tele and Strat....?
I've bought 2 of these guitars love them but I've had to send them both back. The jack keeps coming unplugged in mid play.im a professional musician and cant really afford to have this happen at my shows.I'm use the same L shaped jack that i use on my acoustic guitars and have no problems with it.Am I doing something wrong or is this a common problem with the Mexican made acoustasonic.
How do you replace the battery if it goes bad?
This seems to be a controversial guitar but it is a fine demo. Thank you.
It looks like it should have a hand crank and a Roy Rogers decal.
Have you seen the price😂
Freddie Handley music Overpriced, I agree. But it’s probably because it’s a new concept and they haven’t developed a cost-efficient manufacturing method yet. If I were to put an accurate price on it, I’d say maybe $900.
I want the fender acoustasonic jazz master and jaguar and duo sonic
I like it cause it’s a guitar. I like guitars
Hey Fender... Stay with Tele's, Strats and amps...
What about bass?
what is the string size?
.11 - .53
