Another excellent entry! I feel a little more breathless than long-winded with this one. So much information wonderfully articulated in such a sort timespan. If brevity is the soul of wit then you definitely have it.

I think it's amazing that a much maligned king now has his own sprawling "complex", his own pilgrimage trail, if you will. Shortly after his re-internment, we made a long day out to see the "Richard the 3rd Experience", his tomb at Leicester Cathedral, and the Battle of Bosworth area. Really impressive. None of the other monarchs have that kind of affair.

I think Richard III is a perfect example of how much propaganda can change the minds of a nation. How one family changed the entire legacy of a man they usurped, and how that has scared his reputation through all history.
I was lucky enough to see Richard III in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford, in 2022. I was entranced by the spectacle of it all. I was lucky enough to know the real history and the real man prior to seeing the play, but I do find it strange to think that most of those in that theatre, along with all who other productions, only know the propaganda pasted version of Shakespeare. Shakespeare was not a historian, he was there to up the Tudors (then Stuarts) popularity, and state their legitimacy via his patronage.
In my opinion, the legacy of Richard III is all but lost. It's hard to change the minds of people who see the romanticised version of Richard on the stage. Entertainment is such a powerful tool of rewriting and propaganada (just look at WWII Germany), and even today you see examples of a cleansed view of history.
Sorry if this is a rant. I love this video. To hell with that RUclips and its copyright!!!

My great grandfather is a Stafford. I never looked into that side of my ancestry until recently and have been trying to learn all this stuff. The line is so crazy, Norman's, Frank's, Swedes, Hungarians, Germans , Scots and Rus's. The connections have made me hooked on history.

Henry VII & Henry VIII between them killed EVERY DROP of Yorkist blood they could find.

A basic look at the history will tell you that isn't true on any level, but probably the most obvious counterpoint is that Henry VIII himself and all of his siblings were "Yorkist blood", as their mother was Elizabeth of York. For Henry VIII to kill "every drop of Yorkist blood he could find" he would have had to murder all of his immediate relatives and then commit suicide.

My thing about Richard iii is - why is *he* so evil? Even if he did everything they said he did, hes just like any other English king. You cannot say you like richard iii without some few or so people going “wait didn’t that guy kill his nephews?”, Maybe he did I personally don’t really think so, but they’re are English kings who have done considerably worse things and still have fanbases. I mean all the Tudors executed thousands upon thousands of innocent people, many of which just for not having the right Christian denomination they decided on that week, but it’s Richard who they saved us from! it’s evil hunchbacked Richard iii, who is the most EVIIIILLLLLLLLLL English king of them all! whose actions we don’t even have any proof for. That’s just bizarre to me, the fact that he’s been so targeted for slander and controversy despite there being no proof to many of his misdeeds. That’s what does kind of convince me that he wasn’t really all that bad in real life, if he really was so evil they wouldn’t have to work so hard to convince everyone he was.

Very interesting. I'm here for this series.
I come from a long line of Yorks. The Taggart family always name their sons "name York Taggart".
My husband is descended from the Lancaster line.
It doesn't matter because we are American, but it is fun to tell our kids.
