This movie gets more criticism than it deserves. Not the best Titanic film but still pretty good I thought. Trivia bit: it was made as a sort of prequel for Raise the Titanic which came out two years later.
I managed to get the extended edition blu ray (also has the theatrical on there), had to order it from the states. Managed to rip it after some trouble, but I need to sit down and watch it though when I get a chance. I think someone did upload some low quality clips from the extended on RUclips years ago but they might have been taken down by now.
There’s a beautiful restoration of my dad’s film on Blu Ray. Kino Lorber. My dad HATED the edited version and always felt the longer version was more of his vision.
Hi Alice, I was so curious about this one because I saw it when it debuted on the network with a friend who was a Titanic nerd like me. We liked the character development which overshadowed the adequate filming and special effects due to it's limited budget.The more you get to know each character the more you hope they'll survive the disaster with their friends, lovers and family. I'm glad that they gave JJ Astor more prominence, he's usually missing or briefly shown in other versions. I ordered a copy of the special edition on Amazon and it has both versions 102mins and 144mins. If you could somehow get an American made DVD player with a proper converter plug you could play the other regional formated versions.
I used to be able to re-jig a previous DVD player (or cripes, maybe it was a video player!?) to watch different regions. Worth a google, maybe. Enjoyable film as ever, Alice.
(P.P.P.S. - Your knowledge of TITANIC impresses me [and, after 40+ years in this, THAT doesn't happen EASILY. I think I'm in love.]). Also, TITANIC's funnels were "Buff" (a sort of yellowish color), not brown. And I have, since 1979, HATED PASSIONATELY that scene with them looking in on the ladies. I found it very distasteful and inappropriate, and still do to this day. Also, check back to that scene of the tender at TITANIC's bow: you can CLEARLY see they've cheaply covered up the name (with what looks like paper") QUEEN MARY, and just put a board or something printed "TITANIC" under it. I saw it in '79, and have not been able to unsee it since.
The last line in the movie about god was such a touch of my dad. He had such a problem with American Christian nationalists and was a bit of an atheist
Why would he have a problem with any group that had nothing to do with him? That sounds very petty and narrow minded. If you don't agree with other people's beliefs and opinions, then simply stay away from those people. It doesn't have to even be an issue.
I didn't. I've had it for YEARS. I even watched it when it premiered. (P.S. - I've got the original extended edition. It appears to be from Japan, but it's in English.) (P.S. - LOVE your eyeliner.)

This film is not the best and certainly not the worst. Although the film is VERY flawed and low budget. It also has a lot of good things about it. I find it underrated. I was able to watch the theatrical cut twice and honestly enjoyed it

Fun fact: sos titanic didn't had a model of titanic so they they copy some sinking scenes of a night to remember and colorize them
