  • I styled this young cedar for the general public at our recent Bonsai Northwest Melbourne Exhibition in April. Lots of useful information for beginners to bonsai here in terms of how to start, how to style, what to look for, how to create, how to trim, how to wire and other information on how to start bonsai. This tall young cedar became a cascade bonsai.
Please note: if you located in Melbourne, I provide bonsai services. Reach out to me on my email address at bonsaiworx@gmail.com if you would like to discuss your bonsai needs further. #bonsai #bonsaiworx #cedar

don't you love it when you have an audience that are new to Bonsai. When we do demos at our shows we pray for as many questions as possible while we are wiring.

Bunjin/Literati is another option, but leave sacrificial lower branches violations develop thicker lower trunk?l, and wire top to contort/drap etc?

David, I think you said you repot in Spring and then went on to say deciduous in July and conifers in August? July/August? I'm also in Australia - Bungendore near Canberra.

So, no wiring/bending in Winter (gold advice right there!), but when? Any other time? Winter doesn't seem like a time of flexibility? Summer? Autumn?

Hope I didn’t say no wiring bending on winter. In Melbourne, I only avoid Spring and early summer for doing big bends as the sap flow is strongest and easy to seperate the cambium layer from hardwood. Big bends in late summer all through to winter in my climate.

@@Bonsaiworx Oops! I meant no bending in Spring. So, basically bend it in Autumn.
