    I know this soap very well. My father used to use this soap when I was a child. Now, I am 35 years old men. I am not same me, but the soap is. In fact, it is same package since the days my father was a child, because as I am aware of, this is the first ARKO product, dated back to 1957, and neither package nor shape haven't been changed over the years. Maybe, while a child my father had seen his father having a shave by using this soap, same "handsome shaving man picture" on it :)
    I don't use shaving soaps a lot, but whenever I see this product at markets, or barbers, it is a kind of warming feel. It is like seeing an old friend. Maybe it makes me remember old times, when I was a child.
    Greetings from Turkey. Hope you enjoyed ARKO shaving soap :)

    I have been using arko for about 5 years now. I love the scent smells clean to me. I once stayed in a hotel had to shower for a meeting. I had little time to get myself ready. Over sight on the hotel staff left me without soap in the shower, I used arko from my shaving kit to wash even my hair. I had people asking mostly Women what after shave/cologne I had on they liked the scent.

  • @ajhoward8888
    @ajhoward8888 2 года назад +8

    Smelled like old-school lemon furniture polish to me at first. As I used it though, the scent started to drift throughout the rest of my bathroom, eventually transforming into something that actually reminded me of Meyer lemons, Ivory soap and sunshine, which turned out to be fairly energizing and something I actively crave in the morning. 🤨
    Combine that with it's stellar shaving performance (easy to lather, excellent slickness, easy to apply) and I have to admit that I've started to fall in love with Arko. I always use my excess lather to wash my face after the shave and it also left my face feeling clean but never overly dry. A few added benefits are the versatility to use the sticks itself for application or to smoosh it down into a bowl when needed and the lack of a strong scent after the shave which might clash with other fragrances you might apply. It also seems to condition my brushes fairly well, leaving them cleaner and noticably softer after they dry.
    Arko also seems to be one of the least expensive shaving soaps on the market, making it pretty hard to pass up. In the last few months, I've ended up using it more often than my ToBS, Proraso, Mitchells Wool Fat, and Cella combined...and I haven't even made it halfway through my first stick.

    I love Arko so much. Super cheap, clean smell, the tallow moisturises the skin and keeps it slick unlike glycerine, no plastic packaging. Only advice I give is similar to what's shown in video, make sure you use much water to produce your lather, as a thin soap lather it will dry solid. Pressing the stick into a shaving bowl with a bit of water produces the best thick lather. If you shave slowly, reapply to areas that have dried. Can also leave a "soap scum" ring around plughole/water basin level since the tallow doesn't dissolve in water, so a quick wipe down clears that up.

    I shave every day because of my job and I have been using Arko soap for about a year. Definitely the best I've experienced so far. the price is affordable, it is very comfortable and it has a very long life. When I use it, I first wet my face and shaving brush in hot water and then apply soap to the brush to lather a little, then I apply it to my face and make it foam more. In this way, I complete the shaving very quickly and without any problems. I would definitely recommend

Started in the DE world after my wife seen the Rick Harrison Commercial(Pawnstars) for the DE Razors.Been at it for 6 years.My setup is pretty basic. I have an adjustable Gillette Slim, (1964) a cheap perfecto brush, and the Shark Super Chrome Blade. I have tried to get different friends into using a DE but most just want to keep wasting their money on premium shaves.

    Arko soap is amazing, I was given a stick of it when I bought an Ace shaving silvertip brush. I used it in stick form a few times. After that I pressed it into the bottom of a bowl like a puck and lather it that way. It's an amazing soap for cheap and I'll definitely be buying more

    • @geofatboy
      @geofatboy  8 лет назад +3

      In a bowl it likely lathers easier because you have more surface contact with the brush.

    I have been wet shaving for a good number of years now and started buying all different and quite expensive soaps, a couple of good quality razors and a Simpsons X2L best badger brush. Didn't get on too well with the expensive soaps. Near where I live in England is a long road with shops and a large number of Barber shops. On walking this long road on a Saturday morning I found myself looking in all these Barber shop windows as I passed and noticed that every one had Arko soap by the sinks! I bought some and never looked back! I still use Taylors Eton College cream now and then but for everyday shaving it's Arko!! Love it!!

    I love my Arko stick for travelling! I apply it both to my wet face and a little (few circular strokes for some foam) on a well soaked brush. It produces a lather that you could fill potholes with. Takes up literally no space at all and works a charm with just about any water. Does need a boar brush though, from my experience badger brushes are not sturdy enough to lather it up sufficiently. The smell might be debatable, but I like it because it reminds me of the good ole days and my grandparents :p

    There are other very good Turkish wet shaving gear, yeah Arko is an iconic brand and it is very good, I recommend Turkish boar brushes to any wet shave enthusiast, the lofts are not as densly packed as Omega but performs great. Derby stick is very similar to Arko, Camelot shave stick is quite different as it is very soft so it has to be pressed in a bowl and it is another great performer. Also there are numerous aftershave lotions, balms and colognes made in Turkey. Arko aftershave lotions have very long staying power.

    I like Arko Shave Soap sticks. If you find the scent a bit off-putting when first opened, just completely unwrap a stick about 2-3 weeks ahead of time and let the scent subside a bit before applying it during a shave. Problem easily solved.
    Great glide and it is slick, and a brush with a little water mid-shave helps keep it from feeling dried out.

      Razor companies didn't even start marketing a "razor for women" until the early 90s. The Venus razor which is just a price hiked Mach 3 cartridge with a bit of unnecessary extra rubber. Women just shaved with "mens" razors since forever. Genderised products are such a modern deception.

    'Like Magic" is my take also on face lathering with stick soap (works too with a Williams puck). I find that wetting the stick isn't necessary to get a great lather. I just wet 1 side of my face & rub on a dry stick until I can see a light coat of white. 1/2 of my face will produce enough lather to do 3 complete passes and even have enough left over to shave the cat ...

    Nice. I have alway just run a wet shave brush over the end then applied. I love the smell of a new stick of arko when you open it, makes the whole room smell great. Wonderful classic shave soap scent. The only catch I found is the paper wrapper breaks down pretty quickly. I also take the last bit when it gets too small to handle and put it in my shave bowl.

    Arko is good stuff. I just wet my face, put a thin film of Arko everywhere and face lather. It doesn't take much to have enough in the brush for 2 passes and a touch up. My most used soap, by far.

    Every time I hear Geo's recommendation to "go with glycerin, because glycerin comes from plants" I'm always tempted to point out that a lot of glycerin traditionally, and still does, come from pigs. I'm not sure how many shave soap brands use animal based glycerin, but it's something to keep in mind if you're that concerned about it.

    I got an Arko stick some time ago and I didn't like the scent at first, now it's my daily soap in the morning (alterned with Proraso red) with R89 & R41 Twist + Feather blades.
    I did unwrap and nuke it few seconds in the micro, pressed into an empty Taylor of the old bond street jar, perfect to me.
    I really love TOOBS sandalwood scent more, but it's too expensive to use it daily imo and I always happen to make more lather than necessary with its soft consistence, so I use it just on week end. With the price of 1 TOOBS jar I can get a 12 pack arko sticks and even save some money or 6-8 Proraso jars in EU.

    Same difference with a soap puck. Instead of lathering in the container, your lathering on your face. It is something different to try though.
