Thomas Sankara was an African (President of Burkina Faso in the 80’s) revolutionary , panafricanist , anti-imperialist . A legend and icon . He was killed most likely by the French. Cheikh Anta Diop was a Senegalese historian, antropologist and political activist. He is a major reference when it comes to studies related to African origins of humanity and civilization. He is the man who gave the pharaohs back to Africa.
Basically he s talking about escaping darkness of reality with a big blunt between his teeth on a big motorcycle and cruising away despite the risks it takes .
This song is so powerful and I’m bilingual in both English and French and I can tell you the meaning behind the lyrics is lost in translation, the point he is trying to get across is how he feels the world around him is torture almost like hell and the freedom of his motorbike to escape reality is how he escapes this hell, you should almost relate to it as how your life can be chaotic and he’s basically singing about that beautiful moment of solace and peace.
I think this is the best way to sum up the message of the song there could be a more grammatically verbose meaning but more or less it’s what it is, truly beautiful ❤
No lie, I'm about to try and learn french and revisit this song because it gives me chills, but according to many online comments by french natives this mans lyrics are mid... I find that hard to fathom, especially when the synopsis of the song sounds kind of deep.
I’ve been sending this to some of my French friends that helped me translate 😂 But agreed. I might have to pick up some French as well. Worst case just listen to more French artists. But yes this song sounds so good.
@smittycal Exactly!! As a bilingual speaker (English/Spanish), I know firsthand that word for word translations lose impact and/or the message being delivered comes off very odd 😂🤣... i have to hear this song with his ears. Great video bro!!
i just wanted to pause the video and say - the teeth definitely are a big deal... take freddie mercury for example... famous world wide for his voice singing for Queen... he was made fun of his entire life for his teeth.. but his teeth and the shape of his mouth are what attribute to his amazing voice.. he said he would never fix his teeth either.. probably the most famous example.. it definitely is a thing... so i dont blame anyone for not wanting to fix their teeth. God (or whoever is up there) made us the way we are for a reason.. why change that..

That's what's up! It seems I need to be more familiar with my own history. Thanks for sharing and for the information.

The translation is fine but far from great, a lot of French slang can't be translated by google 😅
