- Can you reschedule train tickets in India? As I try to find out in this video, the answer is both yes and no. If you have an e-ticket bought online, you're fresh out of luck! You must cancel it and rebook. But if you buy your ticket physically from a booking counter at a railway station, you can reschedule it if you visit a rail reservation centre.

It's due to the amount of people and since the amount is large. They don't allow e-tickets and they don't reschedule due to the the amount of people increasing so yeah. You can't. Trians are stuffed in India becuase people need to go to work. Like example: KGF people go to Bangalore for work because there is no work buildings like I.T companies and stuff like that. Hope this helps!
Ps. I also booked a ticket yesterday on IRCTC (the official booking site) just to double check - reschedule wasn’t available. I also emailed IRCTC, they said it’s not possible too. 🥺 Maybe it’s possible to reschedule on non-Govt travel apps like Make My Trip?
@@KarlRock That's also not possible because they use the IRCTC API for ticket booking. They offer bundled services, such as free ticket cancellation (for an extra fee) or a guaranteed confirmed seat. If the ticket isn't confirmed, they will compensate you with a gift card worth three times the ticket amount.

Train booking in India is a nightmare. There's only 12 or something stations that will even book Foreign Tourist Quota and no station could/would tell me which ones they were. It completely messed up my travel plans and I ended up on buses for the next few days (which are horrible)
As for banking, my Australian bank completely rugged me as soon as I got to India by cancelling my VISA debit card claiming there was a fraudulent transaction after trying to book a train online but refused to give further details. Further, it took days before I could log on to my internet banking because of 2FA being SMS'ed to my Australian number. On top of that, foreigners weren't allowed to get SIM cards in Kashmir. The whole experience made the next 9 months quite difficult but certainly gave me an appreciation of what living on literally $1 a day is like
u can even book on the general quota as a foreigner in normal fare if the tickets are available ofcourse. i guess most international credit cards should work without 2FA for the online bookings rather than debit cards . kashmir sim card is a different issue. one needs to do proper research first . almost everything is available on the internet.
Kasmir is sensitive due to Pakistan sending terrorist but rest of India is cool

This is sadly one of the worst parts about online ticket reservations.
As a frequent train traveler, it always pains me to cancel a ticket on the IRCTC portal, as there will always be a cancellation charge for the ticket.
Why can’t they let us reschedule the same tickets? Why?
If there’s a cancellation fee for a ticket, then have a rescheduling fee for the ticket too! It will save so much hassle of canceling the old ticket and then booking another one.
There is a whole slew of problems that I have with IRCTC, but this is the major one.
You can get a sim card that does work in Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu, and also works in the rest of India. I got mine in Leh on the main street. Mine was Airtel but I think most of the main companies have the same. Was just a bit stricter on ID check than my original Airtel sim

Thanks 🙏 if you look up Vaishno Devi you’ll see where they’re going. Tickets are reasonable, but on some longer journeys in higher carriage classes it might be only a little bit more to fly and save time. So check both options. From
memory I recently paid around $24 to go 600 km from Jammu to Delhi in 2AC class (basic bed with AC in shared cabin). The Train from Delhi to Agra to see the Taj Mahal is a popular and short trip, cost was 455 INR when I looked yesterday

The Indian railway system needs an overhaul so badly. It’s not the infrastructure, but the people mismanagement which is the biggest issue

I understand the purpose of making this video is to make foreigners aware/learn about the rescheduling of train tickets in India, and the video served that purpose nicely. Perfect.
But seeing you struggling and making mistakes makes me feel for you. (Being a frequent train traveller and also your viewer, I know beforehand what is going to happen in the end, as the video title itself is saying "e-ticket," which is online booked, and there is no concept of rescheduling.)

Yeah man this is a major hurdle for me to choose trains as a mode of travel in India. I can't get to pick my seat, have some privacy, can't pick a cabin and book all of it just so that I have some space. Travel by air in India is just so much cheaper and nicer. Heck one can travel to random small places by smaller planes now, it's all so accessible. It's kind of like India missing the bus on setting up landline phones for the population and leaping to cellular coverage. Same thing with India leaping the train travel and jumping to air travel. Though trains like Vande Bharat give hope of a train centric future.
Yeah, it's strange that we can't choose seats 😅 I kinda just accepted it and never thought about that. You're totally right about flights... they can even be cheaper than taking the 1AC train class too haha.

Actually karl your rescheduling was available but not offline,you can reschedule your ticket from online portal from where you have booked your ticket.😊Staff said that they can't reschedule as your ticket was booked online so rescheduling for that ticket is only available on online portal.😊

There is no option of rescheduling ticket in IRCTC, you have to cancel and rebook.
