Two different philosophies clashing. According to Devon, winning the set up is part of arm-wrestling. He is ok with the other person trying to take an advantage in the set up. In that sense, he is fair. It's the job of the referee to make sure it is as fair as possible.
Imagine the same atittude among citizens..that we will do everything we can get away with..no sense of right/wrong whatsoever and it's up to the police to uphold the law...how fast would we descend into chaos?
the athletes must also bear some responsibility for fairness.. there's a reason guys talk abt John offering a fair grip to this day and nobody has ever said that abt Devon..
It is not fair when the other guy is holding back, the referee has two jobs. So it's funny when Devon gets the majority of the hate, or all for that matter. And he doesn't bring it up. See the difference?

Devon is fair in the sense that he expects you to try to get an advantage in the setup just like he does. He's the Rick Flair of arm wrestling. "If you aint cheatin, then you aint trying." Lol
Unluckely, this is not the definition of discipline.
This actually ruins the sport.
The beginning is where everything actually happens btw. If the other guy has nothing to fight for, no chips in the game, he'll never lose, sure, but most certainly will never win. That's the game.
This is why Devon is leagues above the rest and is facing Levan next. Logically, this is how it works. Logic.

Everyone tries to get the advantage in the setup, if Devon is just better at it then quit whining about it and work on your setup. Moving around and not listening are the best you can come up with? How is he not listening to the ref, but the ref is happy starting the match? Also, how is he false starting if he’s never getting a foul for it?? Again how does he cheat? By your definition Ermes and Genadi were massively cheating when they pulled Devon.

Devon is _technically_ right in the sense that it was his opponents that were "causing" the issues in the setup. For example, in the Ermes match, Ermes kept messing with the grip, especially when it was ref's grip. He was the one who kept getting scolded by the refs. Or in the Prudnik match, Prudnik was the one who kept lifting his elbow off the pad. Or even recently with Georgi, he started to touch Devon's hand during ref's grip in one instance iirc.
But Devon is sly. His opponents may _technically_ be the ones causing trouble, but they often only do that because of the position he puts them in 😂 (partly due to his naturally longer levers).
Devon's a master at gaslighting his opponents. But hey, that's just the name of the game. Can't expect your opponent to just let you have your way in the setup. You gotta learn how to fight in the setup.
I mean of course, what he's doing is saying "i hit his head with his fist, so it wasn't me" 😂 He's technically right that the opponents fouled more, but that's only because he was causing them to do that in order to fight him for the grip. The only thing his opponents can do is to do the same and trying to outsmart him instead of crying. It's like agreeing to a boxing match with a guy who you know is smarter than you and then whining after defeat that he outsmarted you and you lost. You knew that before the fight and you didn't come prepared.

I only wish I knew I could have pursued arm wrestling as a real sport when I was a kid. I was naturally gifted as a child. I would beat most everyone I would arm wrestle. Would have been champ. Guess we'll never know.

Yes, this is true. Devon doesn't cheat himself primarily which means he won't cheat anyone else. If some middle ground is established, then theres no way Devon would fuck the guy over. He's primarily babysitting his opponent so his feelings don't get hurt and then thinks about himself 2nd. It looks like the opposite to the salty feminine nancys who want to make it about their own feelings instead of actually being fair themselves.
If the others were more fair, they'd get destroyed instantly - Levan will learn this as well, as, the stop is coming.
