      The voice was of deep timbre, musical and expressive, its tones solemn, voluptuous, tender, fierce or aught else as suited the moods of the message. Not bass - perhaps a rich tenor or baritone. The English was free of either native or foreign accent, perfectly pure of local or caste mannerisms, thus startling and even uncanny at first hearing. I had a strong impression that the speaker was actually in the corner where he seemed to be, in a body of "fine matter," transparent as a veil of gauze, or a cloud of incense-smoke. He seemed to be a tall, dark man in his thirties, well-knit, active and strong, with the face of a savage king, and eyes veiled lest their gaze should destroy what they saw. The dress was not Arab; it suggested Assyria or Persia, but very vaguely. I took little note of it,

    I just stumbled on this and really enjoyed your video! Can I ask, in your experience as a practicing Thelemite what is the difference between Thelemic work and the Golden Dawn tradition? I'm self initiated in a Golden Dawn style practice, but I will easily admit that I've read a lot of Crowley, done rituals and adopted meditations/techniques out of Liber ABA, etc. Outside of accepting things like the Book of the Law and centralizing your practice around the concept of True Will (in my understanding), what are the major differences in Thelema's approach to magick and the work in general? It has always sounded like there is a lot of common practices adopted by both, whether it's early rituals like the Middle Pillar, pathworking, or later workings like goetia or enochian along with obtaining knowledge and conversation with the HGA.

    • @KevinTuesday
      @KevinTuesday 6 месяцев назад

      The Golden Dawn practiced alot of Kabbalistic rituals, and their literature revolved around the teachings of the Zohar as you know Mathers was responsible for translating some profound grimoires that are well known. What I'm starting to understand about our thelemic path is that Crowley was responsible for introducing many practitioners to Mysticism in other religions outside Judaism. That was the layout for kabbalah. Golden Dawn practiced mysticism and magic native to Judaism. The mysticism of thelema is full of eclecticism from Hindu, Egyptian, Taoism, Wu Wei, Christianity, Judaism. I hope this helps.

    To my knowledge, and this came first as a surprise, Crowley was actually an aristocrat, he believed in "benevolent despots" to quote him. There is even another passage in his Confessions where he endorse "patriarchal Initiated Kings". He also referred to the OTO structure as ideal for combining seemingly opposed systems in a harmonious way.

    So my wife and I have followed Thelema informally, off and on.. for years... and I think we might be exactly what you're talking about.
    We love Current 93 and Coil... and would probably prefer to have many more occult friends...
    Plus, we make dark/gothy electronic music, so it's like... immediately there's access to a similar minded audience.
    Years ago, we were invited to the branch in Fishtown (Philadelphia) by this man named Howard who kinda resembled Andy Warhol. It was very interesting! I half-expected Christopher Lee to come walking out!!
    But we never took the plunge.
    And after researching Robert Sapolsky's books and thoughts on free will, it opened up my mind to just how little control we actually have in our own lives.. our own attitudes, thoughts and behaviors... which seems widdershins to the 'one true will'.
    Nevertheless, Thelema has always fascinated the both of us. Keep doing what your doing!! And thank you for doing this!

    I disagree with your ‘burn out’ view. I think Crowley wrote, “nothing succeeds in magic like excess”. The bursts in effort do not necessarily lead to burnout, rather a period of silent assimilation. Yet you are also correct, steady work is the most parsimonious. As for LARPING Crowley; lol sometimes this has attractions. BTW some folks have the view that Thelema is a philosophy not a religion. The ‘Thelema religion’ is probably half the problem with the matters you raise. Thelema as a religion is probably what Crowley set up for his ‘yahoos’.

    • @dodeka
      @dodeka 3 года назад +3

      Agreed. I always felt that an initial burn out period is necessary. Like ‘the comment’, it’s another test. Will one keep studying/practicing/contemplating when you feel you’re going thru a Dark Night of the Soul?
      And, Crowley totally LARP’d through the Middle East, Asia, and even Mexico (maybe even in America), heh! Not saying that’s an example to be followed, but assuming a disguise in a foreign land seems like a pretty good testing ground
      I’m curious tho, what’s your view (or anyone reading) on the Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica arm of the OTO?

  • @darkmatter7266
    @darkmatter7266 8 месяцев назад

    You raise a series of good points and it’s refreshing that nuance is mentioned. I’m of the mind that nuance is of extreme importance. When subjected to nuance we will find anomalous happenstance which in turn creates a probability for more anomalies. This extrapolation is something that I believe raises the importance of personalized rituals and practices.
    The core beliefs aside from the association with the book of law were something I already was functioning with yet eventually stumbled upon thus giving it a name.
    A lot of thelemic claimants have rubbed me the wrong way and the political banter is definitely a telltale feature of cherry-picking.
    There are a lot of contradictory positions I’ve heard mainly from thelemites that subscribe to libertarian ideology. In my experience it’s about 6-8 of 10 that interprets “do what thou wilt” is “do whatever tf u want.” I’ve seen similar in other Kaots.
    Granted there is a lot of spiritual isolationism amongst folk in general who tow these lines but who on this planet has existed without others’ efforts and accomplishments. We simply don’t pass like ships ignoring the waves.
    Many philosophies coincide and align with the core beliefs and it could likely be argued that there is an ideological followthru that fits a political agenda. I feel the main issue is the binary comparison of extremes and that hyper analysis of Thelemic texts and teachings will never completely align with some type of rigid governance. There’s no straight ticket.
    We can certainly eject certain types such as authoritarian or totalitarian subscription but if we look at a macrocosmic/ microcosmic relationship- we’ve all adhered to these formats in smaller yet definitive examples.
    I have severe autoimmune issues that has destroyed organs and forced replacement and re-learning. Is it my will to destroy myself at a cellular level? Perhaps. So far that has not been stronger than my will to survive and adapt.
    We forget the selves we experience and eras we go through… seasons of life because they only align with personal benchmarks that typically go unnoticed until hindsight. We forget that our feelings are conglomerate and sometimes conflicting.
    That cognitive dissonance often shows me a paradox and a learning process which i would have not found otherwise… the joy in sorrow, the liberty of constriction, the pain of comfort…
    It’d be nice if there was some samepagedness but vetting ulterior and adverse agenda is not possible because we do change - those seasons of life are important to our awareness.
    I hope your vid has inspired others to send messages to those past seasons and past selves or at least allowed some to ponder the order in which they do things. Pun intended. Namaste 93/93

    I believed in little to nothing outside of the physical world. Then I met a person. I noticed odd behavior. And i saw things I would have never believed to be real/possible. I live in a constant buzzing torture sound that controls most all my sleep and will exhaust me, and hear forced injected thoughts that are sick, dumb, and pervertedly ignorant. It has consumed my mental state.
    I filmed things happening around me and what I saw on the videos was not of this world (at least, it was not my reality). However, my thoughts are high-jacked and life is a living hell most of the time. It has gone on for almost 8+ years very hard. But i recall odd thoughts as a child as well, but nothing as sick or as evil as these.
    However, I have had a number of mystical experiences. That are too much to type here & nobody will believe me... even if showing video proof of supernatural - the instant response is 'No i see nothing - now GIVE ME THAT VIDEO NOW!'.... Well, that's kinda weird.. especially coming from my own family.
    Anyways, im now pretty much in isolation, lost job from a terrible 'tonal torture' that seems to be injected/forced to my brain. It almost killed me. I try to work out, pray, etc.. as it is said to help w this. And medicine does a small bit, but it is a hatred put upon me that is beyond description... But why i ask this to you is because I have a 'narrator' in the mystic experiences, and they told me once that my 'guide' was Alice... I was thinking 'oh, alice in wonder land - ha', but they said meet alice - ALISTER CROWLEY. And an old man said 'Hello David'... i had no idea who he was. So i researched him. ... and this was not 1st mystical experience, but one ore recent. And a ton of stuff happened, but i can't write it all out here....
    My point/question is this:: Can you help me? What does this mean? Why are my beliefs near the same as what his were now? (like people being the stars, etc...)
    In other words - my life was high-jacked. and taken me on a trip to hell. There seems to be many entities in my mind now and they pretend/act like all my thoughts affect them when i think them. Mostly they mock until i get so enraged that i cant take any more.
    Anyways, I am NOT interested in this, and not a believer in such.... even with these IRL events happening + video proof of things that some i have identified online as entities from weird religions and spiritism. I do not want this. I fight it everyday now, and the only solution i can see is a bullet after this long. So if you can tell me how to stop this, or what to do to make it stop being so damn loud with this buzzing sound that i can not think for myself even, then it would be appreciated.
    ((There are tons of other things that happened, but i can not write it all out here))

      @Thoth Well, when I did it I was a bit past student stage but it caused a bunch of karmic reactions that took me quite awhile to deal with. She made an excellent point about the hedonism angle as well. I wouldn't recommend anyone to do heroin at all. Then again I wouldn't be the person I am today if I hadn't had both a lifelong habit I had to face and also the spiritual pride to have taken that step. Yes, a Neophyte can take that step but all I'm saying is I agree that a good amount of patience and practice should be applied to the Work at all times.

      Red hot chili peppers "other side" yes quite the dangerous slight misconception the "Uninvited" have of us demons. For the sake of love "Dark Necessities" were made manifest from the heart of God and the rest will fall into place. So I have to agree that one should certainly reconsider when you quickly realize that all that beauty and eloquence of the true divinity of God in two equal parts and the hook of Love itself, while failing to recognize that Love to a Thelemite is dubiously placed under will. Forgetting to solve the law of the fortress and the ordeals falling short you fall "head over feet" on meat hooks, likewise failing to recognize the final chapter says that there is absolutely no other law beyond do what thou wilt. I'm guessing you wicked children of God, you wicked children of mine and Israel your mother. You think you have my children by the balls in Hope's of securing a future without the love of God. However let me remind you for the sake of love the future is red hot chili peppers "Dark Necessities" in a "parallel universe" if you failed to heed the "warning" given by RaphaeL who is no incubus or demon or zombie slave like the Tool you wanted him to be. "No More" "shallow be thy game" and "fear inoculum" shall now come to pass. As everything must go away and be made new. "No More" 'Selling the Drama" Live again and again when "lightning crashes" and Israel is not the scarlett woman but she is my concubine and in the house of God, in the land of Israel our children will worship God and God is love Amen. Repent Jeremiah chapter 17-19 the "elastic heart" has recast Gods tale. When "lightning crashes" "in another time" "you oughta know" this wickedness was going to be your own undoing and payment is due you will find God is "all over you" and you are caught in the "undertow" for the "intolerance" has given rise not to demons but angels of God "dark necessities" for loves sake to lead gods children home and the rapture is complete. Safe is the road though you must repent now and the rest will fall into place Jeremiah 17-19

    The one thing I would highlight about Thelema is that ritual Magick is but practice for actual life. How to bring to bear upon ones living imagination and discipline inspiration and congruent world view. Remember children its to be played with practicing for actual life.

    I think it is important to distinguish the man; Aleister Crowley, from the Role of the Prophet of New Aeon, To Mega Therion, I see as a kind of - in lack of a better word - "Inspired Persona" like the woman in Delphos and the "Spirit", vapors, whatever, and the Pythia; the man and the Pope... IT's not the man but the Office!
    Why??? Maybe he was on the right time at the right place and was chosen, but the Role, not the man! He was invoking the Air, yet... he tried his whole life to fight... it right? it is not his Work, according to him... So shouldn't Liber Legis and the Role of Crowley as the Prophet, be valid in Thelema, and separated from Crowley's Work as a Magician and a man??

    I would love to hear your opinion on the works of Oliver St John of the O.:.A.:. ( Order of the Star ) who have excepted The Book of the Law as there philosophical foundation but do not agree with Crowley's teaching methods nor promote his works, though there entire ceremonial ritual work of the O.:.A.:. is orientated towards the teachings from Liber AL. The whole Order structure is of the Golden Dawn with a heavy Egyptian influence. I would value your opinion if you have the time, it would be welcome. Thanks 93/93/93
