I would absolutely love it if my Model 12 had a Main Bus Compressor, especially if it could be recorded onto tracks 11/12 so I could dawlessly master my tracks.
This is why I still bounce my Model 12 recordings to a DAW for mastering. A master bus limiter is essential if you want your tracks to sound good on spotify, youtube, etc.
A Master Bus Compressor would be a fantastic feature on the Model 12. This way, I wouldn’t need to transfer any files to my PC for mastering. This would the cherry on the top for DAWless Mixer/Recorder/Controller/Audio Interface. Please, TASCAM!
A master bus compressor would be great! Something else I'd like, although not related to this video, would be the ability to manually adjust the start/end times for vamping via the jog dial.
Would love it. I haven’t bought a mixer yet but was looking for the Model 12 since it’s small and fits well into a home studio. But now when there is a newer one and looks amazing. So if the 12 can get better it’s still interesting.
I have a Model 12 and YES for adding a compressor to the Model 12. +/or incorporating mastering presets in a futur update. Just so the Model 12 could finally be a fully completly standalone unit without depending on a PC&DAW. Please make this happen Tascam. It's been mentionned enough already.
Am I the only one thinking this is just an incremental upgrade at twice the price? Plus, I'm convinced there'll be no more updates for the Model 12, it's just too old now, but I'm still in love with mine. Come the deals at Christmas, there just might be a few of the Model 24 available at a super attractive price. Great review of the specs, so many thanks.
last update was only 06-05-2024. continued firmware upgrades encourages brand loyalty and reduces e-waste. one reason I ditched Zoom was because of poor after sale support.
So....the Model 16 and 24 is probably the best for the Studio Thanks for the that informantion I think adding to the 16 or 24 would be smarter and sound better
Thanks for for the Tascam Model 2400 preview. I have my eye on it in the event I decide to upgrade from the model 12. Can't wait for the reviews to start coming out. Totally agree about the Tascam Model compressor recommendation. Also wish I had the ability to reverse the phase of a channel during MTR mixdown. Seems you can only inverse the phase during the initial tracking/recording, but not during your 2 track mixdown. A lot of times I can't determine whether the phase needs to be inverted unti I'm ready to mix down. Also, wish I had the ability to use the Inserts when going from PC to Tascam Model 12 or during the 2 track mix down. Again, the inserts seems to only be available only when tracking on the Model 12.
Welcome back on the Model series! 👍 I would love to see a Bus processor on the Model 12! I noticed that on the Model 12 (f/w 1.42.0099) the PRE-COMP send point doesn't work when INPUT switch is set to MTR (instead LIVE works correctly). Anyone else?
I just gave this a try this morning and set to MTR with PRE-COMP send point with the latest firmware into track 1 via xlr and tracks 9/10 via bluetooth I was seeing on playback things working as expected. When playing back the individual track recordings I was hearing no compression, and I was hearing the compression when I had the SD to Main Mix selected as I think that plays back tracks 11/12 which have all processing that was done during recording, but playback via the channels directly seems to have no compression or EQ etc. Do you know the specific setup you are seeing this issue to try to recreate it?
@@lefessier Thanks for sharing your experience! The issue I noticed is about USB Send Point only, in other words when I set it to PRE COMP there is no MTR playback signal transmitted to the computer. If I set the USB Send Point to POST COMP or POST EQ, the MTR playback data is transmitted to the computer.
@@DrKunz Oh I see! Very interesting! I have just been using my model 12 as a standalone unit so haven't seen this yet but will keep an eye out, that seems less than ideal for sure.
@@lefessier I used my Model 12 exclusively dawless for two years now. These days I wanted to test how well it works with a DAW as an audio interface and as a controller, so I checked various settings and here we are. I sent an email to the Tascam support with a description of the USB send point issue, hopefully they will look into it.
1: Huge "YES" for a Master Compressor/Limiter on the Tascam model 12! / 2: For all the Tascam Model series and DP PortaStudios to be able to cable Connect & Slave to each other to work in unison!
Possibly, as I have no idea what processor or code is being used. From my experience writing a simple compressor plugin in C++, the code can be as little as couple of dozen lines to actually do the work, but to link the parameters to the physical knob and display, might be 10x the code. I'm sure it's possible to copy the code over from Model 2400. I'm hoping :)
this video states that the 2400 does not do DAW control like the Model 12 but according to Tascam's website the new 2400 does have a DAW Controller using the Mackie Protocol.
Does the model 2400 have a built in metronome....as my old dp 24 had one and if you used it and then used the built in effects....say the delay.it would be in sync... my model 24 doesn't have built in metronome...making it almost pointless to use the built in delay...it never lines up properly..hopefully the 2400 has sorted that.... the dp24 had some great figures missing from the model 24 ...saying that tho..it does have a nice sound to it
@@RecordingStudio9@RecordingStudio9 I know why you are saying that but I dont agree. They CAN absolutely implement it on the 12 , 16 and 24. I don't care what the block diagram Is currently - they dont have to stick to that....they can make an improved different version.

A big YES for a Master Bus Compressor in the Model 12. I miss this so hard for fully DAWless Music Production
Absolutely YES for a master comp/limiter on Tascam Model 12!

Do you got ideas for using both at once?
It would be very nice to have a Master Bus Compressor on the Model 12.🙂
TASCAM, please add a Master Bus Compressor feature to the Model 12. Thank you, @RecordingStudio9, for initiating this petition.
Would the Model 2400 'Model Mixer Settings Panel App' feature work on Model 12, too?
Thanks for another great Tascam upload.

I’m surprised the EQ range didn’t increase a bit, I would have loved an upper/lower mid eq band on this desk. 😢

can you sum using this similar to the big 6?
Yes, the Model 2400 is an analog mixer. You can send your DAW buses to it, analog sum to the main and record the stereo mix back into your DAW.
