- I'm making a Chanel Style jacket and I want to use couture sewing techniques.
I bought Claire Shaeffer's book:
"Couture Sewing. The Couture Cardigan Jacket."
www.amazon.co.u...
The pattern I chose:
"The Classic French Jacket" by Susan Khalje
susankhalje.co...
I had this printed onto AO by:

My fabrics are from Linton Tweeds:

My first job was to find the right pattern, I selected 8 before finally choosing.

Susan's classes are definitely worth it. I have made several jackets in class with her and using the online class with her pattern. I really can't recommend her enough.
Thnks Selene, I am still working on my jacket, thank you for the recommendation
Susans video classes are phenomenal well worth the money!
Thanks Susan x
I am in the same boat as@@gemimalondon. I bought the Susan Khalje pattern but will not invest in the online course. I have made a toile already, one test version is half done and my Chanel fabric is waiting...
Thanks for sharing your progress and pattern information Rachel. Really looking forward to seeing your progress.
Thanks Debbie x
I look forward to your progress on this project. Thanks for sharing all your research.
I made Vogue 7975 in black tweed and it turned out beautiful. I loved working through the process of making it. I am considering purchasing Susan Khalje's pattern for this jacket as well as her skirt pattern to make another suit. I have fallen in love with the Chanel style. Hope yours comes out just like you want.
Thank you, it's a long project but worth it eventually I hope!
I have just made this jacket and did buy the video. I am very pleased with the result. One thing to note is that the pattern does not include seam allowances. I made a toile which was well worth it as I ended up making some alterations to the shoulder seam and the front bust seam. Its a great pattern, i think it's the best one as it has the 3 part sleeve. Its a pity V8804 is Out of Print.
Hi Jeanine, thanks for that, I'm just about the mark the panels on the fabric so I have a long way to go! Yes I agree about V8804, perhaps they will re-release it.
Oh, brilliant project. I love Claire Shaffer’s books and have incorporated some of the techniques in projects. They are fabulous ways to add couture elements to patterns. Susan Khalje’s Classic French Jacket pattern is one I have my eye on, but I am intimidated by the lack of instructions. I’m looking forward to following along as you make the jacket and gaining some insight in the process.
Hi Sasha, thanks, I am excited to be making the jacket!
Looking forward to seeing the Chanel jacket
Thanks Vivien!
Brilliant project. Making a Chanel-style jacket is on my long list of future projects. Really looking forward to following your progress and learning from it. 😊
Thanks Eileen!
Really looking forward to seeing your final project now as I would love to sew one 😍 those Vogue patterns are gorgeous I really like them!
Thank you, it's taking me a while but i hope to share the next stage soon!
There is a sewing blogger called Goodbye Valentino and she and her friend would make a Chanel style jacket every year. I’m sure she attended in person classes with Susan Khalje for the jacket and skirt. If you look at her year 1 gallery on her blog she had photos and lots of details. Looking forward to seeing your progress. 👍👏
Thank you Sarah! I have found it
New subscriber to your channel😊 I am looking forward to watching your progress! I have not taken a Susan Kahlje class in person, but her video classes are excellent. I have considered signing up for her French Jacket class, but since I also have the Claire Schaffer book, I will watch to see how you get on using the book for instruction and may follow your lead😊
Hi Jane,
thank you for subscribing! will be posting progress in a couple of weeks!
❤
How is your Chanel cardigan jacket coming along. I am planning a suit inspired by Chanel's 2024 Fall show.
Hi progress is slow, it's the kind of project that you need to take your time on, I will update soon!
