DIY Driveway Extension - how much does it cost?

- I made an extension to my driveway. I extended by 18 foot x 25 foot (fits 2 more cars).
This driveway is sloped to the center where water can flow down to drain into the existing drain.
I provide explanation of how much it cost, what materials was used and how long it took.

Basically $2,250. But actual price would depend on location and whether the contractor is licensed or not.
Pretty good price. I got 3 quotes. For same size. First was $3500, second was $7000 the last one was $1500 not quite sure about those guys. I can afford rock right away but rather concrete. Looks good!👍🙂
Dont know what state that is in and i guess concrete was alot cheaper back then. Prior to biden taking office the price of a 80 concrete bag almost doubled. If i remember correctly i was getting them for 3.45 and they are now 5.98.
For a concrete driveway you should be prepared to pay in today's market about 8-12 dollars a sq ft. I imagine the contractor may have been short of work because today there would be hardly any meat left after payong workers and donating to zelenskys and hunter's war
I think the contractor did a great job but also I think you need to share that contractor information so other people can use him as well. And also thank you for the info...
So to fine out the price for a project like this do always Multiply the size like you did then x5 to get the right price or it changes?

Thanks for this video, i need something like this done, but longer, basically make my single driveway, double... It wont be cheap 😂 hopefully i can find some cheap contractor that does a good work
What kind of cement is used and the color seem bright. So I was wondering if you know the color or how the bag look like?
Typical readymix type of concrete blend. Nothing special.

@Daniel Cleary You are right, this was not 100% DIY. I did not place the form and pour the concrete. But I did measure, prepared the ground, capped the sprinkler heads and supervise the contractor. At $5 psf I can not beat that price buying concrete bags from hardware store. And pouring and leveling the concrete is usually not for the amateur to do without right equipment and experience.
I didn’t realize you did all that. It wasn’t clear to me in your video. How many bags of concrete did it take? Was $5 a square ft for the whole project or just for the concrete? Did you put down rebar and adobes? Good job btw!

Is that only 3 1/3" thick???
The basketball concrete slab is about 4”
I'm getting mine done for $3,500. And it's extending a quarter way into the side yard.
@moez1774 how much does that translate to $ per square feet? and please let us know what part of country you are at, so other viewers can have an idea how much driveway costs at different parts of United States. Thanks
@@DIYGEEKTEXAS $10 per square foot plus $0.18 per sq ft of rebar plus $1k for labor (digging out dirt, breaking old concrete, forms, cap off sprinklers). I'm in North Bay California

That’s a lot of surface area for that tiny drain. Also that’s a lot of concrete for just one saw cut…

Most never need to unless HOA or if your redoing public sidewalk

Thats gonna crack badly. The finish is terrible. Looks like they didnt level the ground or even puit down gravel.
I agree . why the water flow back towards the foundation of the house? Every foot should have a quarter of an inch fall. To much inches for a drive way a 6 inch would be a lot firmer.

@@mikev7980 What happens when it rains really bad or if it floods there? All that dirt that was poured instead of gravel is going to wash out. Im sure zero rebar was used. Plus whenever it rains all the water will flow back towards the foundation of the house. Its a terrible job.
I don’t think you understand “DIY”
That driveway is gonna crack within the first year major cracks you have the driveway sticking too far up it’s built up on dirt and the dirt is going to wash out i’ve seen this happen too many times they need to dig into the ground before laying the concrete and the concrete needs to be that high off the ground but what these contractors did you did a very cheap lousy job by raising the concrete on top of dirt and gravel you’re gonna have some major major problems I’m sorry you’re gonna deal with that but trust me you’re gonna pull the rest of your hair out God bless you sir sorry for this trouble but I thought I’d point it out to you. ✝️✝️✝️
I has been about 1.5 year, so far so good, no crack yet. I drive a RAM 1500 and 2500 truck, both are 6500 & 8000 lbs respectively, which I park on that concrete slab everyday! I will create a video to follow-up how well it is holding up.
