Jeff is like the Bob Ross of drum instruction.
"We don't make mistakes, just happy little pockets."
Only difference is Jeff can play drums, Bob couldn’t paint!
Yes, excellent analogy.
@@neilpaterson3886 LOL why do Bob Ross like that? lmao
OK kids, I'm 68 playin' since 11....you're never too old to learn something. WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!! You have a new fan, Jeff!!
Your right I’m 65 just found Jeff he is a very educated drummer and he holds my attention
Thank You Jeff Randall.....Killler Idea!!
Not only is all of your content delivered really well, but bro...you know your lighting. Excellent quality behind the drumming and cinematography aspects as always. Thanks for inspiring me to make my vids better🥁🙏🏻
Peter mckinnon i guess Hahahaha
Your one of the best drummers on youtube..clean.. clear explanations..😊
Cool video!! I’ve been playing drums for a very long time(forty years) 😳 I’ve never taken lessons and I’ve got so many bad habits!!! Do what this guy tells ya and you’ll be way ahead of the game!!! 🎶❤️🎶
thx so much for all those tips, Jeff...
Thanks Geoff. Great video.
I practice to CDs and sometimes electronic music.
Jeff could say hi, “hope all is well” and I would press like.
Love your playing and all your content man. Playing to loops the last several years has definitely transformed my playing for the better. I stress it to my own students all the time, but in these days of distance learning, the onus falls on them to follow through. I’m afraid it often falls on deaf ears.
A fun and easy loop I do is to set the metronome on 16/4 and mute out select notes to achieve the cascara pattern. Set your metronome to 480 and boing- there are your syncopated 16ths at 120bpm. If you get bored with that, move your “1” 1 eight to the right or left. It’s a whole other party then.
Also, “djembe time” is an app that I have gotten endless practice from. It has a bunch of west African rhythms to play to. Fully modifiable.
Cheers Jeff, from Santa Cruz, ca
Thanks for those suggestions Bruce! I’m gonna check that “djembe time” app out right away.
@@JeffRandallDrumming Awesome dude, i'll be curious to know how it works for you. Some heady 12/8 stuff to work on for sure.
I've been playing for 20 years and this is the best idea I've ever heard. Thank you!
Wow. Amazing video. Thank you. Very insightful and inspirational
thanks jeff, we hope you're well too!! thanks for the free loops
You’re very welcome! Just to clarify, the loops I create for my videos will be available on my Patreon so they aren’t free. However there are a bunch of free loops out there on the internet as an alternative.
So true, loops & playing along to your favorite bands tracks is the way to go. Never heard a Metronome groove...ever!
My internal time urged me to watch and enjoy this, thanks for the loops Jeff.
For sure Bob. Hope they help yah out!
Loops!!! I love it! I’m in! Thanks!
Super helpful, the truth about becoming a structural and complete percussionist. Perfecting the craft takes hours of work. Thanks for sharing. Great video!
Thanks JR. I'm getting some help from your vids. Something that REALLY helped my balance on the kit is doing suitcase carries (AKA farmer walks). Grab a kettlebell or dumbbell (or whatever) and walk around carrying it like a suitcase. Then after x amount of steps switch to the other hand. Doing these a few times a week has helped my posture and balance on the kit ENORMOUSLY! Better balance, better posture = relaxed playing and considerably more power. Just my $.02.
Wow dude!! That is a better concept on how to practice!! Thanks a lot.
I use moise for drumless tracks. So amazing!
this is an awesome video buddy my son's a drummer and He and I enjoy videos like this, hugs from argentina
Great playing Jeff! I love your content and general vibe.
Good tip
Great advice! Loving this channel. Years of making electronic music has been great for my drumming. I may not be the most technical drummer (this channel will help me with that!) but my tempo and pocket are super solid from years of listening to steady tempos. These days i program subtle tempo changes into electronic tracks (for example going down 1 bpm during the second half of a drum fill to push the feel a little)… but it is so helpful to play to something besides a metronome!
that snare is looooooooow like ocean bottom low xD
oh man such a brilliant idea you have earned a new sub buddy
Right on! Welcome to the channel Erik.
@@JeffRandallDrumming yeah thanks 😊
Its mad how you get that sound and groove out of your drums Jeff, less drum cover channels and more channels like yours. Congrat for the REAL tips 🤘🏻❤️
Thanks bud!
Brilliant
Jeff, Great great job always!! Thanks for this amazing job. Here, Pablo from Spain!
Thanks for watchin' Pablo!
You are the best !!! thanks for your lessons
You’re very welcome!
Riteous. Keep these coming. Love these drills.
Will do man! Thanks for watchin'.
My module has all these things built in. I have to use edrums due to volume issues. Great practice.
Very useful lesson, Jeff
Thanks Dmitry!
I would love to try these
Go for it bud!
Ya my good men
Hi Jeff, I share everything you said, thank you for these great tips and for what you always show us.
You’re very welcome bud! Thanks for watchin’.
The last loop is so John Mayer haha, really useful video thank you!
All right! I’m in, this is the year!
Yessir! Let’s do work.
This is so cool thanks Jeff!
Thanks Joel! Hope you're well my friend.
I love the idea of playing to a drum loop. I use Garage Band to play along to guitar and bass loops. I’ve made a few of my own songs to play along with too. Great tips again. Thank you. 👍
I do the same thing Richard! Thanks man.
I love your drive in the groves 🤗
I got a looong way to go to achieve that, if ever, even though I played for 34 years.
I've always have had a problem learning to play to a click. It gets tight and on time, but very robotic.
Give the loops a try and let me know how it goes! They should help you move away from that "robotic" feel.
@@JeffRandallDrumming
Definately less robotic playing to more musical loops, instead of a metronome, but I'm not even close to having your drive.
@@PezrulezHaakon That’s a great start! Give it time.
Great video as always dude!
Just great man! keep up the great work!
Thanks Elijah! Will do bud.
Great, thanks!
You're very welcome!
Wow wow wow 👏 😍
Incredibly helpful, thanks man!
Glad it helped!
Great video!!! I would like to have drum lessons!!!
Thanks bud! For sure, go to jeffrandallmusic.com if you wanna set something up!
Bingo! Excellent analysis.
Appreciate it!
I get playing along with tracks etc its great fun and good practice however what you don't learn is the value of the beats you play, learning the basic notation and rudiments will, learning those skills will unlock another world in which you can master any drum style or rhythm
Cool.
Kick ass as always, thank you!!!
Thanks for watchin' Ian!
@@JeffRandallDrumming Sir you seriously have my favorite lessons and have had more impact on me than any other source. I’m not blowing smoke, I am truly grateful to you!
@@ianisaacs2340 means a lot bud!

Thanks again!
Good stuff Jeff..... really helpful for building the internal clock. 👍
Thanks very much!
Awesome man 🙌🧠 u so underrated btw.Keep it up❤👑
thanks for the tip
You bet!
Love the drum sound man!
Much appreciated Josh!
@@JeffRandallDrumming 🤘😜
Gracias jeff ❤
You’re very welcome Jose!
There is sound of money. 👍👍
Good job.
Great video !
Love the fat snare sound.
Sympathy for the devil loop now has that song stuck in my mind.
Dude, didn’t even think of that. Great call!
@@JeffRandallDrumming It was spot on. The challenge now, is to try to remember how Charlie plays it and then make it my own.
I love the way you list all your gear for this;
A question,- you seem to favor ride cymbals and use them as a crash. Why is that?
Get it!!
Yeah bud!
There are a lot of good drum teachers out there ... you are A-Grade. Thanks!
Great work as always Jeff ! Could you maybe please make a video about how to improve fills on the drumset ??? I need some advice , thank you :))
Thanks Tax! Love that idea.
I'd love if you could analyze and make a video on Richard Spaven!
jeeeeeeeeeeffff!! holly fukng shit dude.. the drum loop!!!!! wtf i love u.
I love u bro, u inspired me, u r HiperMegaSuperawesome
Love your stuff, having problems finding the drum loops you played and mentioned are linked below…
Thanks Mark! The loops are available on my Patreon which is the first link in the description box.
Jeff: how to play with music.
Answer: play with music.
... ok ok ok cool cool cool it actually work kinda well.. now I need to get better with DAW now..
The loop acts as a "metronome", i.e. a group of notes presented in an interesting repeating pattern.
Nice hair
Guys Ima help you out download the app Moises, go to add song and add by URL. Open a laptop go to yt and choose a song of your choice and just copy the link onto your phone. You can remove the drums for free drumless track and endless drum covers/practice.
Great call. I haven’t used that app yet but I need to try it!
How did you develop how loose your preps before each stroke are? So relaxed...
That’s a deep question Timmy! Definitely an area of focus of mine. I noticed years ago that my favorite drummers (Steve Jordan, JJ Johnson, Aaron Sterling) all used very smooth and fluid motions and have been working on it ever since. That’s a topic we should cover on the channel for sure.
@Tim Pelser haha, nope!
where do I get those loops??
Over on my Patreon.
Wat app do I go on here
👍
Hey Jeff, just in case you catch this comment, I was just wondering what snare that is that you use? I'm new to your Channel. 🙂 I commented yesterday but it may not have gone through.
Hey bud, I'm using a Sakae 14x6.5 brass snare for that wide open rock sound, a Sakae 13x6.5 piccolo snare for that funk sound, and a 14x8 Gretsch maple snare for that "gush" sound. Welcome to the channel!
@@JeffRandallDrumming Thanks, Jeff!!
You challenged us, now I challenge you. See if you can make a video without saying "you guys." 😀
BTW, nice lesson 👍
Haha, you’re on!
This is good information, of course but I will ignore the tape on your snare head.
Is that camera perspective, or are those 15? 16-inch hats??
A bit of both! They’re 16’s.

Other great kinds of loops are fruit and dirty.
This guy
And mobius.
“Logic or pro tools”
Dude please ALWAYS include Reaper.
Reaper is amazing and WAY cheaper than those you mentioned. Perfect for the hobbyist.
👊🏻. Cheers.
Great call dude! There’s just too many to name.

I‘m sorry, bud i makes me so nervos all these often cuts. I finished looking after 2 minutes and 30 cuts.....🙄
All good man, have a good one!
I really like your channel. But unfortunately this is video clickbait par excellence. I don't think you have to use that to generate views if your content has quality (as it usually has). Anyway keep up your great, creative and educational videos.
What? I made click with my fingers in tempo. You dont know ehat your talking about.you are pretty basic musician
What snare are you playing dude? I love it’s depth and sound!
That "gushy" one is a 14x8 Gretsch maple snare.
