I like to think of shops as museums. Beautiful stuff that can’t go home.

I like to think of them as my personal warehouses that store all my stuff. Ha ha.

Lol - me too. I say the phrase 'the world is my museum' when I see something I admire then I set it back on the shop shelf (or wherever). It gives me a deeper appreciation-an appreciation for the items AND for the world that allows me to enjoy the items.

I've been downsizing my vast collection of crafting books, magazines and equipment. Hardly used it in the last few years. Sold more than I thought I would, was struggling at first but seeing the money starting to roll in has really given me the push I needed. 💷👍🏻

I've only just recently found you and I really love your channel! A couple of things came to mind on this topic. The first is a gem I picked up watching a design contest program. One of the designers got bumped during one assignment where she put too much 'stuff' in her room. She said something I've always thought about since - "You have to say 'no' to the good so you can say 'yes' to the BEST." I think that could apply to decluttering a collection as well...keep the best pieces of it and, as you said, let them shine!
The other is about trying to stem the tide. I went into a friend's house one time and in the front room she had a beautiful curio cabinet full of small pig figurines. I said, "Wow, you really like pigs!" and she said that she USED to like them a long time ago and had a few, but now everyone thinks that is still her 'thing' so they keep gifting them to her - even though it's no longer an interest for her. Gotta get others to understand!
The final thing is about inheriting someone else's collection. My grandmother loved and collected a LOT of turquoise jewelry in her life and she used most of it - fine for her. But in dealing with it after she had passed on, we took pictures of it all and then let the family members take turns picking out their own favorites so we all got a bit of it, but not all of it.
I will be looking at more of your videos! :-)

Back in my younger motherhood phase, I was talking to a finance teacher about trying to budget and save with kids to feed. I was talking about going through the ads and cutting out coupons. The teacher said, "Start by stopping going through the ads." They were right because I would see so many things I hadn't known I 'needed' before I saw the ad. That and NOT going to the shops are two of the best'decluttering/money saving tips I've ever gotten! Thanks for today's video! You rock, Laura

Flea markets, second-hand shops, antique shoppes, collectible places .. sigh .. so, I go in looking for the items that friends love - Friendly Village dishware for one, sunflowers for another. If I find some, and it's the old style Friendly Village or sunflowers that aren't toooo gaudy, I feel that RUSH of happy, that THRILL of the chase, that WOOHOO .. I buy it, package it up and GIFT it. Then I get yet ANOTHER heart-warming moment when the recipient opens it up. .. and I feel ALL better.

I always find it interesting that folks don't 'do the math'. That is, they don't consider the value of the space being used for storing items vs the value of the item. I was chatting with the manager of a storage facility once and we both had a laugh at how much folks pay to store stuff that would cost a tenth the money to purchase the items again if they did ever need it.

I did this last year with Lego Minifigures. I had 70+ from blind bags and managed to whittle the collection down to 18. Some of it was really easy to do because I had a lot of duplicates. I put the purged ones on a stall at our annual gala and they sold out in less than an hour. Now those 18 I kept (include Jack Skellington, Harley Quinn, Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde, Elsa and Lady Liberty) are in their own display frame and they look great.

That's understandable, particularly with how topsy turvy the world is right now. I'd say to whittle them down a little if you can. And then give yourself a deadline.
