Things got better for me when I realized action is more important than motivation. In fact, I found that action leads to motivation, not the other way around. Still have to overcome the huge drag factor of my own laziness though!
Oh yes i thoroughly sympatheise! I'm probably going to misquote Laura but she said something on the lines of 'don't wait for the magic pill, you are the magic pill'. Such a light bulb moment for me, I've muttered it many a time to myself!!!
I discovered that, too! Action leads to motivation, so starting with a tiny task can lead to more. 🙂
Many of times I had the "burn down the house" thought. 🔥😉🤔
Yes! Starting over with a clean slate does sound better👍
It sure does! 😂
Me too..... No decisions needed....
@@amsteensberg1653 yep! Just one decision. Decide to set house on fire. 🔥👍😉
Hi Laura!
I'm Karen from Australia!
Just wanted to say, watching and listening to you is giving me the incentive to start finding my groove again! Your comments are funny and uplifting! A real "Pick Me Up tonic" !
Keep up your Great Inspirational Work! 🌞 Believe me, IT'S WORKING!!!♥️🥂
Thank you. I have watched so many of your videos and I just want to thank you for the time, effort, and wisdom you have been sharing for so long. I've been on this road to minimalism with you for over a year and a half and it's definitely a journey and not a destination. Thanks again for keeping me company. 😊
Thank YOU. I can't tell you how much your comment means to me. I'm so glad and grateful you came along for the journey. 😊
Thank you Laura! Your advice about husband that's not on board with decluttering is the most effective one that I had ever listen to. Usually people says that giving the example leads loved ones on board... well it's not always the case... So thank you again because I was starting to be resentful and now I can have another approach to the situation. Lots of love from Italy
I look forward to your videos every day. Thank you for continuing to help motivate and support your followers.
I very much appreciate you.
Wow, Scout is growing up so quickly!
And that footage was from a few months ago!
I’ve always been one to declutter but I’ve been living minimally for almost 4years now.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It's encouraging to know that I am not alone in feeling stuck in my own mess.
I love this concept of 5 minute pieces.
After watching this I am using today to follow through, have been ok about trash, but moving items to where they belong, moving items out or donations or selling is a sticking point. Not losing motivation just gaining awareness.
Basically only moving stuff around.
Update: watched the attached video and am now setting an exit plan.
Getting things out is a huge sticking point for me too, which is why I'm always talking about it. Ha ha.
Those are great tips. I filled up my wagon to the recycle shop. It was great cause I’ve been decluttering for weeks, but the bags were piling up in the kitchen. I was happy but upset cause I'm nowhere near finished, but not seeing that does make the difference. I even got my mind to think about other things and also trying to declutter things that do spark joy, but I do have too many of and already found a great home that a person is going to enjoy. Thank you. I've watched your series and the pictures I forgot to take in some areas but later started, and it does make a difference!
Such good advice! My hubby drives me mad at times (crap buying 🙄) but have i done those things? Of course! Also he is ruthless when it comes to declutter so a good ally to have!
The one person who disliked this had a bad day it's ok ittl get better 😊
I am loving this series👌and your hairstyle! It's so cute😍
Thank you for sharing✌💛☺
Thanks so much, Wanda! 😄
Hey Laura- perfect video for me! 😊
Hi Laura! I'm new to your channel. Love ALL your videos! I watch/listen to you as I'm decluttering & organizing! I've been on my minimalist journey for a couple of years now. Just found you last week! You are a blessing! When the student is ready the teacher will come! Thank you! 🙏🏽❤
Aw, I’m so glad you found me. How’s the decluttering going for you?
@@HowToGYST It's going great! I'm getting there! Your tips & videos are really helpful! They have given me a 2nd wind! Looking fwd to catching up on the rest of your videos. Thanks again!
Love these videos! I have done more decluttering in the last moth than in ten years. Thank you.
WUHOO! Good for you!
OMGoiodness! Wonderful advice. I SO needed to hear your words! Thank You for sharing this wisdom about motivation and ruts!!!!!! 🤩💫
You are so welcome! Glad it was helpful. 🙂
I need that shirt lol ❤️
Excellent video!
Thanks so much, Anne!
Your declutter journal has been the biggest help! I didn’t take before pictures, but seen Bh the daily entries is terrific.
I love the idea of AFTER pictures! I tossed out years old cake decorations, and now I have empty space in cupboards for taking stuff off the counter. Hmm, I just thought of more!
Much easier to clean off surfaces when nothing on them. I dusted today. Then went into my hubby’s cluttered bathroom and quickly backed out. Too much work to dust.
Hubby and I took some boxes and bags out of the kitchen. Felt great.
Love all your tips. Love your pigtails and incredible tshirts, Laura!!!
YAY! Thanks so much, Judy! I'm thrilled you're enjoying the challenge and the workbook, and well done for putting in the work. I bet you're feeling great!
Yes, those low days come in after so many wins.
I'm loving this series and on occasion still picking up from the facebook group here and there. We're moving soon so this was the BEST!
What facebook group?
@@svetlasvet5909 it was called the clean, happy home ☺ i think its a closed group
I need this today!!
Hope it helps!
Love your shirt!
Thank you. =)
Thank you so much! Can you make a video on how you declutter and store digital "paper"? Digitalizing ist great - but then...🙈
I love all your messages in this video. Thank you so much for stepping back in the middle of the challenge (am I correct that this is a 30 day challenge??) and reminding us that we should be aware of the emotional aspect of this decluttering life, too.
It can definitely take a toll. There's a lot more to it than just getting rid of stuff, so I wanted to take some time to address that. I know it's not always as easy as it sounds! And yes, 30 days. 🙂
I struggle with the "what if I need this later"
I have pink and peach tinted shampoo in my drawer from a disaster hair appointment.. I'm going grey so colour is a struggle (tones come out funny, colour correction on a budget can be needed..)
They were £7 or so a bottle, so I don't want to re-buy but I'm so sick of seeing them sat there!! Similar things keep cropping up along those lines, deliberation for too long at a time.
Make up has been depressing.. false eyelashes, shimmers.. they don't suit me anymore, trying this stuff on and seeing all my wrinkles and stuff, just depressed me. I feel old! I'm lucky to be here I know.. but it's still got me down.
I've been at this for two months, I'm wondering if I'm contemplating getting rid of things I may regret, things from lived ones passed.. I don't know, I just feel like I'm mooching rather than doing, running out of steam with it.
I'm also annoyed I do a room, think it's finished but then find more in that room I don't need - am I doing it wrong the first time!? I just don't know.
Over it ATM. Wondering where the nearest skip is!
Hi Awkward, I'm Mary! 😂
Hi Laura. I always have the things I want to declutter sitting around somewhere in the house. My husband buys new things all the time and we receive gifts. Decluttering never ends. My daugher and husband are not on board. I'm always tired. Thanks for your advise.
Unfortunately, we can not force others to do this as well. Just focus on your items and do the best that you can👍
If you focus on your own space and your own stuff and reach a place of happiness and peace with your own space/stuff, your family members will gradually come to realise why you declutter. Somewhere down the road (i.e. don't set expectations), they will be positively influenced by you.
Please try to make taking care of yourself a priority. Being constantly tired makes everything 10 times harder. I think Laura is brilliant to set this as a 5 minute challenge. Only allow yourself to do 5 minutes and then do something you enjoy.
How did you know?
Been through it. ;)
my roadblock is that i have items i want to declutter but the thrift stores are not taking any donations and the items are not selling.
Pop an ad up on Craiglist, Facebook Marketplace, or Nextdoor announcing they're free to take away for the first person who gets there, and then leave them on the curb with a 'free' sign. =)
@@HowToGYST yep! I have what I call the "free tree." I nail a FREE sign to my front yard tree. Place the items under the tree. And watch them disappear!!
Just put it on the curb with a free sign.
