  • The Crucible is the culminating event in recruit training. Working toward this point since the beginning of their recruit training, the only way to finish is through leadership, teamwork, hard work, and dedication. The Crucible forces recruits to combine and employ everything they've learned over the past three months. Only after the completion of this event will they earn the title United States Marine.

Reflecting today on all of it, on my journey in uniform and what I went through, on what I know he just went through. I remember the pride of that success and achievement, and feeling the EGA in my hand. It's hard for me to transition back into military life, especially this time as just a spouse, a dependent. Every. Single. American. You don't need to join the Marines or any branch of the military, but you must go through Marine basic training.

I dont know. I never enlisted and couldn't too many health issues. The humidity on this side of the country is no joke, especially in the summer. At least with the mountains, the altitude helps with the humidity, the heat is dry and you have the coastal wind to cool you. I'd imagine PT, the marches with and without rucks with the weather here, especially in the the summer would suck.

Micah Esquibel Marines and Army get the same training in basic/boot. We did right seat rides with Corps DI's and they did right seat rides with us. Straight from a Marine DI "I can't believe how identical our training is" and our favorite "I can't believe y'all get that level of training, I wish we did" When they saw Victory Forge their jaws dropped. We had 4 Marine DI's with us. While out on Victory Forge we could hear them talking amongst themselves. What kept being repeated was "Could you imagine our guys having to do this". They were openly impressed and were vocal about it. The myth that Marine boot is harder is just that a myth. Marines say "but we have the Crucible". Well guess what? The Army has Victory Forge. Except Victory Forge is 72 hours long and ends with a 15+mile ruck compared to the Marine's Crucible of 54 hours and 12 mile ruck. While the Crucible and Victory Forge rely on team-building exercises, the big differences are that the Army exercise is totally tactical -- conducted as if in a combat zone. The Marine Crucible is a training environment and isn't conducted as if in a combat zone.
We're all on the same team, every uniform say U.S. on it before anything else.
