- This is a dark and darker longsword lessons how to control and manipulate spacing video. I'll be able to help explain how to manipulate spacing in PvP combat and how to take advantage of this spacing to create advantages in your combat throughout the game. Spacing is the most important part of longsword gameplay, I can't stress it enough. Hopefully, this video will help you guys out with taking more fights and turning them to your advantage by using good spacing.
Lemme know what you think of this longsword lesson video. I'd like to make this a series eventually as a way to share important aspects of playing with longsword to help you all find more success with the weapon.
Don't forget to check out the stream! Every day but Mondays at 7pm eastern standard time! Link - / oggieson
As always, take care and be safe!

Fellow Bruce fan. Respect.
That flex at the end was amazing. Great video thanks Oggie.
I play Warlock often. I guess the repositioning is even more important with him.
Positioning on warlock is definitely the most important part of the weapon since you're far squishier.
Awesome content.
An overlay that shows your key presses and your mouse would be awesome addition to the training!
Are you thinking about releasing a video showing how to play a fight while in full gear? Or even show your preferred gear choices when playing with longsword?
I'll see about the mouse overlay, that would be neat. I will try and make a guide that talks about longsword across the different gear levels and how to approach fights, that would be good info to share as well!
Thanks, nice to get some insights from a seasoned veteran longsword bro. I am indeed a parry gremlin, I will definitely try to use more jumps and do the sprint surprise attack from now.
Will definitely improve you ability to take fights I think!
I remember you testing out where the actual blocking point of the longsword are back in the play tests. Now look at you a master of the longsword.
Thank you for this lesson! I have seen couple people (including myself) fishing parries, leaving the torso wide open to free attacks. Probably the hardest thing for me is to time the attacks against Horseman's Axe since Barbarians just run straight to your face with left mouse click spam. Keep up good work!
Spacing is hard for everyone with longsword, myself included. I still get caught lacking as well with spacing as well. Much easier to W and left click than it is to manipulate space perfectly with a super slow weapon like longsword.
The 3v1 at the end could have been a whole video. Absolutely beautiful
Appreciate it buddy!
This man out here giving real life lessons in a DND tutorial I love this
Your longsword gameplay is so satisfying to watch; a real mastery of the playstyle. Would love to see more gameplay even if its just highlight compilations
Admitted parry gremlin here lol Also I let the 3hit combo play out after thrust whiff hoping they step into 2nd or 3rd hit
Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes you can miss the first hit to bait people into the second one since the time between 1/2 hit is pretty short.
New Longsword lesson from Sensei oggieson just dropped bois!
Thanks for the tips dawg, sometimes I even forget longsord has a regular attack 🤣
Amazing Vid, still super relevant. Thanks Oggie!
Hope it was helpful to ya duder
Absolutely amazing video. Great lessons, and great demonstration of those lessons.
Hopefully it's helpful!
That last 3 vs 1 was kinda sick, destroy full squad by just one Long sword would be fantastic 😂
It's a lot of fun to go into normals and try to win 1v3 fights with longsword. Very fun challenge
as a Fighting Game Veteran, this was well done and well translated into the mechanics of this genre. great job. very helpful my dude!
Glad it’s helpful buddy! Appreciate the kind words as well!
Great and great tips oggie as usual!!
Thanks coach
''Be like water my friend'' - Bruce Lee
so much skills ! thank you for this educational content :D
This video at 4:20 is what I was talking about. Barbarian Phain from the caves.
My boy! There's a full video of the run that clip is from on the channel too!
4:41 be water my friend 😂
Yo this tutorial is amazing, felt like a college/excel tutorial
you are so wise great longsword god i am learning the way
Would love a video like this for warlock long sword
I do need to put more time in on the warlock.
Not a longsword player, but I'm still taking in your advice for other classes and thinking about general strategy.
love to hear it!
Keep up the good work
great video
Just had my 2nd longsword duel and won! Thanks for your tips bro really helps :)
Hell yeah!
3v1 was cold
Godly video
Hopefully it was helpful buddy!
best vid yet! super fucking helpful
That mage not smoking you while you fought was class
He was a good guy for sure. Which doesn't happen often for wizards in solos xD
SOO COOL
just saw you in discord. Longsword forever!!!
Personally, as someone who has tried almost all of the 2hers, zwei, bardiche, halberd, war maul, all the axes, I find the longsword to be the strongest among them purely due to the potential it has for amazing satisfying plays. Im not sure why its the only weapon with a parry- and return fire mechanic. It would be sick if the bardiche (which also can hold a static block with right click) also had a similar horizontal flick post block, one that would use the momentum of the strike to swing the axe blade into the enemy would be sick. I love the combat in this game but it feels very movement and ranged dominant atm due to a lack of real melee threats like this. Most of them are very readable and kitable.
i wish the quarterstaff had a punish mechanic with its block.
Bardiche would be pretty strong with a parry/riposte type feature. Most of the game has been sleeping on it up until now as is xD but I'd like to see a couple other weapons have individual features like longsword with the parry and riposte in some form.
But by outright strength I think the longsword is lacking. With the inconsistencies in the server and dsync right now it's very easy to get around longsword parries from an attackers pov and the weapon has dreadful dps and on hit slow so it's become a bit of a gimmicky "parry and win" type weapon which is a bit of a bummer imo
Great video Brother Oggie.
Thanks buddy!
Appreciate the content. If they add more riposte weapons will you be doing weapon techs on those as well?
And a request of mine; can you do a video on the Shield Bash differences between the shield sizes. Buckler Punch Kills are the most under used funny things I've ever experienced. Like; instant comedy. You can even duck >> swing straight up and pretend you're in street fighter. Trust.
I would love to see a couple more parry/riposte weapons, but I don't want the combat to devolve into a focus around that kind of combat interaction.
I will try some shield bashing for the memes for you lol. Sounds like it could be fun.
This video was fantastic. Watched it several times. Also made a new fighter named ParryGremlin in honor of this video! 😂
Hell yeah great name lol
Getting hella blazed and watching some ogieson! I would be interested in some full streams or longer form content (such as maybe a permadeath?) if that would be something you would be interested in going through the effort of posting
I've thought about a permadeath run, but in a different format using a voice over and a narrated story line concept rather than just me playing the character till I die. Something like that might be fun for everyone to watch.
@@oggieson Anything longform would be amazing! I would be super interested in that series for sure
I play duos and consistently die to ranged. Even when I hide and begin my sprint in longsword range my oponents are capable of absorbing enough blows (or phantomize) to sheath their weapons and run.
I hang myself out to dry and get caught in a short and bitter game of chicken.
Do I need to bring a shield as a secondary? (My movespeed is usually somewhere around 295)
What perks do you suggest with fighter longsword & crossbow
Depending on gear tier, Shield Mastery, Barricade, Counter Attack, and Swift is my usual. If I have good gear and want to push more PDR I will drop Counter Attack for Defense Mastery
manipulate space and reality🙏
sensei
That's about what I'm suggesting isn't it xD
Nice video! What mic are you using?
I have a hyper x quadcast.
What movement speed do you recommend you play with when using a LS?
Literally as much as you can. With the new stat split that game this wipe you should prioritize Vig/Agi as number 1 stats. Then dex and str
How do you attack immediately after a parry? It does not work for me like that
Right click after parrying
how do we deal with getting oneshot out of stealth by a naked rogue
We grab a fresh gray longsword from our stash and run it back xD. Until they address rogue damage burst we just lose as longsword players it's quite a bummer
Does jumping make u cover more distance than just walking??
Jumping helps keep your head out of reach as you're repositioning in case the other player lands a hit is what really matters with the jump imo
Kill feed at 4:18 damn bro calm down
Had a couple kills that time
Oggieeeee
just wow, I need a lot of practice...
Should I buy a gray gear if I have money on it?
if I just go with default + longsword, I die very fast from range attacks
Longsword -> Bow/Xbow -> Consumables -> Armor is the order of importance.
I buy longsword, crossbow/bow, 1healing pot, leather gloves and loose trousers, lightfoot boots if they're there. That's my set for when I'm ratting. Gray/White plate armor just doesn't feel worth it, I go for movespeed over armor until I have green/blue plate.
I often just go in default gear and longsword. Fighter in general is very gear dependent since our stat line is garbage. A barb can get a gray horseman's and be as strong as you in green plate, just how the scaling works with fighters so if you're losing fights don't take it too hard, base kit fighter is mega bad.
For ranged issues I would suggest weapon mastery perk and longbow until you're more confident hitting shots and then try the crossbow from there.
Mister, but i play warlock with longsword. I dont have sprint.
The price you pay for power! BoC poke them and then make them space for you as they fear the power of your warlocky longsword lol. Outside of the goofy answer tho I got nothing to help xD haven't played longsword warlock enough still to give y'all good tips with it. Hopefully in the near future.
I too have been a parry gremlin 😔
It gets to us all lol
4:44 be WATER my friend
Accurate! Lol
oggie what perks do i go with brother
The standard go to is Shield Mastery, Barricade, Counter Attack, Swift. When I'm in big plate (blue/purple) I often have been dropping Counter Attack for Defense Mastery in order to get more PDR since it's hard to get good PDR numbers as a 2h fighter and PDR is the only thing carrying fighters right now.
Any tips for parrying rapiers
Trying to bait them into hitting with the second attack is usually my best bet. Tank the first and aim high off the right of their head to parry the second if you're spaced properly in tight. Good rogues gonna only poke and back off most likely though
Is this oak dice with a new mic?
ARE YOU STILL USING SAME PERKS??? AS LAST VIDEO
Yes mostly the same perks every run
do not be a parry gremlin.
