Nice video dude! I'll say for the longsword fighter bros that might watch the video, parrying the felling axe is definitely worthwhile because you can get the ripostes off much quicker while using shield mastery and counter attack perks while also using sprint to help position outside the follow up felling axe attack so they have a longer recovery on the miss. Even if you tank the hit, you'll get both ripostes off before the barb can get two felling axe hits off. So you'll be trading 374% base weapon damage total on the two ripostes to their 100% base weapon damage on the felling axe. Parry on longsword bros!
Really good advice for fighters! Your videos helped me when I first picked up the longsword and got rolled trying to parry default fighters with arming sword, so thank you!
I would appreciate this so much, since most of the times you get a good new weapon you have no idea how to fight with it, needing to buy low shit and try it out in solos. Especially learning how to block is really hard when trying to learn it in fights...
Tip for parrying arrows: if it's aimed at your head you can just put your crosshair directly on top of where the arrow is coming from. works at any distance. So for skeleton archers cover the arrow that's nocked in the bow with your crosshair and blade. You might need to aim a very slight amount up because it comes out slightly higher than you'd expect
Appreciate the vid. Love the longsword, I hope when Warlock is finished we get a melee perk or two that synergize with longsword parries sort of like how fighter has a few.
Thank you Lieutenant-sama. I have watched the entire vid and now im a parry god and im destroying every single ranger by sending their arrows back at them, good shit
The only time you would parry a Felling axe when you already poke them down and they want to play distance. But when they want to get upclose you can parry landing a total of 3 hits which is usually enough against a barb with corrupt.
I've been losing every time I've been hit by an Achilles Strike by a barbarian with a horseman axe, so I'd like to improve my parrying skills so I can win.
I play cleric, with mace and shield, My only strategy is to just attack, try to make the fighter focus on blocking so he's trying to get the repost, while simultaneously trying not to let him get that riposte. and once he does, try to block. It's all very risky, but I'm better at blocking the swings of a riposte than the stab of a normal longsword attack.
I've heard other longsword users say that the tip has no hitbox for parry, and it does feel like swings just clip through the front part of the longsword in my experience. Not saying you're wrong but I'd love to see some clips where you use the tip to parry. Even in the clip where you were talking about that and parrying arrows, you didn't use the part of the sword toward the tip.

This game needs so much work, chivalry 1 came out over 10 years ago and does every mechanic better. There's no reason this game should require janky movement that isn't intended just to parry.
Brother it's all good and a great video. I have a question tho, what imput do you do in order to do the riposte???? I parry but left clicking does not perform a riposte.
As an ex Mordhau and Chivalry 1 comp player I'm very excited to try the sword fight mechanics. Is parry a new mechanic that they added? I'd be excited to see a flinch on hit mechanic as to not give the advantage to the opponent with the most HP. Seems like a lot of fights are trading blows back and forth without a way to actually deal with them.
I do alright with double axe on barb, just gotta adjust your swing when you see them setting up for a parry, all downward attacks just lean for the head
I havent actually attempted parrying yet but when im fighting a longsword I usually aim at their feet then theyll either stop attemlting or attempt to parry low and its a free headshot - not much to do there hey I guess youll just need a good read?
Hold mb2, enemy attacks, if you correctly aimed while holding mb2 and enemy wep hits your blade and you hear this specific "clashing blades" sound, immediately release mb2, then press it again and hold to attack 2x
I am not sure if it's just me but for some reason because of the way this game feels and plays I can't help but feel weird knowing I can parry AI, like whenever I think of parries in other games it doesn't faze me at all, but for Dark and Darker, I just sub-consciously think of other players for parrying in this game and never even think about parrying AI. Is it just me being weird or do other people feel this way too?
@@Zybran93 yes correct. Imagine you want to attack directly after the block, but you hit RMB instead of LMB. If you spam it or hold it you will do a combo attack riposte.

I wish they'd actually add a "practise arena", so you can lab out your combat skills, but idk if that breaks immersion too much..
I would appreciate this so much, since most of the times you get a good new weapon you have no idea how to fight with it, needing to buy low shit and try it out in solos. Especially learning how to block is really hard when trying to learn it in fights...

If you have to crouch and 360 to Parry or even just block an attack with the longsword- the combat needs a HUGE overhaul.
