Engelbert Humperdinck's real name was Arnold George Dorsey. He started his singing career as Gerry Dorsey in the late 50's but changed his name to Engelbert Humperdinck in the 60's. The original Engelbert Humperdinck was a German composer, most famous for his opera Hansel and Gretel. 🙂
I love this song ❤️
Thanks for teaching me something new. My mom used to have some of his albums, when I was a kid growing up in the sixties. I have heard of that opera, but never knew the name of the composer.
My neighbor grew up with him. In the 70’s, she would go visit him when he came to LA.
He was born and raised in Leicstershire England and still supports Leicester City F.C. "Foxes".
He tried Slutbuns Waller but it didn't catch on.
He’s 86 and still doing concerts...he’s amazing
I saw him in concert about 7 years ago. He was still great!! Women were still throwing their bras up in stage 😂
I like him more than Tom...
@@michaelasay8587 same!
I can not believe this! I am 52 now, and being a music lover for my most of my life I have only just recently become an Engelbert fan! I am absolutely on board and can not get enough of this LEGEND! I actually remember MOCKING him (due to his name only) without knowing ANYTHING about him or his music!
@@danomatthews7498 where have you been...you're not that young...didn't yr parents or grandparents love them? I wanted to with my mother and grandmother when they went to see them in Reno and Tahoe.
His song "After the Lovin" is an absolute epic love song! He definitely showcases a bit of swagger in this song. Check it out!
I love this song.
Fabulous song!
That's a great song!
Love that song
So I sing you to sleep after the login....you made me go listen to it. Makes me think of my mom. When I was in kindergarten; everyday I'd come home to some beautiful music like this.
She was a movie and music lover. She exposed us to every kind of music there is.
Jay & Amber, you'll Love his "After The Lovin' ", "Spanish Eyes", and "Quando Quando Quando"!!!!
THIS⬆️
Yes very good
Please do the studio version not the live recordings done many years after the song was a hit. Loses its sound. Vocals have changed along with the instrumental arrangements
Kathie says…YES!! SPANISH EYES!!
I went with my mother to one of his concerts when I was 16 years old because nobody else would go with her. It was one of the best concerts I ever saw in my life. The ladies loved him!
C B....I bet! I wanted to go as a kid...my Mother and grandmother went to go see him all the time in the 70s in Tahoe and Reno.
I actually did the same thing in Atlanta. I was 15 or 16, in the early 70's.
I felt so bad for her because nobody would go, LOL. I had the greatest time with her that day and it was an awesome concert. I'm glad you guys got to see him. I'll never regret that day.
Lol, that was the night my mother drove the wrong way on a one way street. Downtown Atlanta is not for the faint of heart.
That fanbase was known worldwide as The Humperdinkers - my mom was one, too!
Engelbert singing with Tom Jones is quite amazing to hear too.
Do you know of any other videos of EH and TJ singing together other than the one where they are in Germany?
Well, they were/are both products by the same manager, Gordon Mills.
My mom loved Engelbert. Every time I hear him brings back my mom 💗💗💗
Me also Jeannie DeBartolo. I loved his voice as a kid also. He and Tom Jones were the favorites back then. Tom Jones is still at it also.
I can definitely relate.
Same here.
📻🙂
Same. While looking through pictures to go in my mom's funeral slideshow last week, I came across some from a concert mom & dad dragged me to when I was a kid. All you could see was just a white-suited spot on the stage far away! (LOL)
I agree! My Mom to loved him and so did I growing up! Thank you! :)
@@mstewart109 I enjoy those times when I actually catch him saying something when he’s judge on The Voice UK (excerpts from various episodes on RUclips)
My mom loved Engelbert, and he even made me swoon with "After the Lovin'" from 1976. It's A MUST for y'all...Amber will be fanning herself listening to that voice! 😉
Peak Englebert for me was his "The Last Waltz".
Quite a unique powerful song.
Totally agree with you.. a very moving/ emotional song! 😉👍
Agreed. Wouldn't it be lovely to share it with Jay & Amber!
yes definitely I absolutely LOVE the last waltz!
Absolutely agree
Agreed, they should check it out
He was enormous in the 60's. English to the core and a part of the 60's revolution. The hit parade during those years was a cornucopia of pure joy and a variety of styles we no longer have. The Beatles, Sinatra , Presley, The Stones, Tom Jones, Humperdinck, Cliff Riichard, The Shadows, Motown etc etc the list is endless.
This song was written in1949. I was first aware of it through my parents and the Ray Price version. Engelbert made it a hit again 35 years after Ray Price did.
Only 18 years later,my friend. From The Mid-1960's The Ladies were either Tom Jones or Engelbert in The UK :)
Release Me - Engelbert Humperdinck struck lucky with this ballad in 1967. “Release Me” made Engelbert Humperdinck a star after years of trying; "....
Check out "Les Bicyclettes Del Belsize"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I prefer the Ray Price version
My Mom and Dad would dance to his music. Late 60’s- early 70’s. Great memories ❤️🙏🏼
Yeah my folks too
That's beautiful. Wish I had for a memory.
.......and mine as well, my Dad even had Englebert play at his funeral!
My mom loved him. We were embarrassed as kids because she got so excited. But as an adult, I get it. He is a great singer. And his music will always remind me of my mother.❤ Try listening to Spanish Eyes and The Last Waltz
Engelbert Humperdink Is a treasure and this is the 1st time I've seen him with a beard and he's still looks..😘 in the different handsome way. He does captivate you with Yearning to be released from a love that he has no desire for & that he's just discovered another ❤ that is more tender...Truly enjoy seeing your reaction which is so different from each other. .. Different perspectives. It was 1 of my aunt Who enjoyed babysitting for us On the Saturday nights when we watched Sir Tom Jones too. I'm glad that she played his music for me and my older siblings when we were very young. Wonderful memories! 👌📺🎶
My parents like Englebert and had a few of his albums. I'm 64, and dad will be 89 soon. Mom's no longer here but she loved his music.
Engelbert is one of the great crooners with such a smooth relaxing voice. His career has spanned almost 7 decades. His first hit song was "Release Me" in 1967. He has had many great songs including "The Last Waltz", "There Goes My Everything", "Am I That Easy To Forget", "After The Lovin'", "Les Bicyclettes de Belsize", "Winter World Of Love", "This Moment In Time", "Love Will Set You Free", "Quando, Quando, Quando", "Love Me With All Of Your Heart" etc.
Huge hit and got lots of radio play back in the day. He was a very popular crooner with a very interesting name.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Interesting! I wonder what his popularity would have been if he used his real name. Thanks for sharing
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Yeah, I'm sure it made him feel pigeonholed
The Last Waltz, and After The Lovin' are just a couple of good ones.
Fun fact: this song kept “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane” from being #1 in the UK. It was the first time The Beatles failed to have a #1 hit single since “Love Me Do” 5 years earlier.
Since From Me To You. their first number one. Love Me Do reached 17 and Please Please number 2.
"The Last Waltz" " A man without love" & " Quando, quando, quando" were huge hits for Engelbert in the UK in the late 1960's..I was born in 1960 so grew up listening to some great music , esp as a kid in the ' 60s...lovin your reactions guys 😊👍👍👍
Have been to many of his concerts over the past 50 years…he is still performing in his 80s! Ahhhhmazung!
Favorites….Spanish Eyes,Last Waltz,Welcome to My World,Welcome to My World,Love Me With All of Your Heart,Cuando,Cuando,Cuando,Love is All,Am I That Easy to Forget,Love is All,sooooo many more. Still performing in his 80s!
His wonderful cover of an old country song put him on the world charts back in 1967. He is still going into his late 80's now. Mr. Smooth.. Great reaction..
"The Last Waltz" is one of my favourite Engelbert Humperdink songs.
The only song at my Mum's funeral in 1996 as the congregation left the Church. Stil as vivid today, nearly 27 years later...
He has an insanely good voice. Maybe one of the best.
Have seen him in concert throughout the years,as much as a year ago. He continues to do concerts in his 80s!
Love Me with All of Your Heart is another ahhhmazing performance!
This was his signature song, along with "Am I That Easy to Forget", so smooth and beautiful! Such a wonderful voice and delivery. "Blue Spanish Eyes" and "There Goes My Everything" are gorgeous and along the same lines but anything by him is flawless. "Ten Guitars" is upbeat but the vocals are just as awesome!
Some of my favorites, "Last Waltz" ,"There Goes My Everything" "Am I That Easy to Forget, "Spanish Eyes".
One of the things I love most about these older hits is THIS is live, NO AUTOTUNE,NO LIPSINK
I grew up hearing this man's beautiful voice. My Mother loved him, and so do I. ❤
Engelbert used to play darts in one of the pubs I drink in. By all accounts the man is a total class act.
He played for my local Pub Darts Team in The Summer. In the Winter they played Ice Oche....
He has one of the most naturally beautiful voices I've ever heard!
My uncle loved this song so much when I was growing up. He used to play this around the house, and then he would pick me up as a toddler, and dance with him. Good times!
Been a fan since this was released in Jan 1967....I was 13! First saw him on concert in 1978 and saw as many shows as possible!
❤🎵❤️🎵❤️
Last Waltz and Love Me With All of Your Heart will make you live him more….
His stage performances showcase his looks, style and amazing voice! All,Welcome to My World,Last Waltz to name a few!
Love Me With All of Your Heart, Welcome to My World,Sweetheart…he is ahhhhmazing!❤️
This is the song that made him a star back in 1967. Other hits include "A Man Without Love", "After the Lovin'", "Winter World of Love", The Last Waltz.
He is much more than just a crooner. His voice and stage presence are unique. Thanks for the reaction. Please, more Engelbert. His catalogue includes dozens of hits.
As a kid my mother would make me play this on the jukebox when we were out.
When I was about 15 in the mid 70s , I had his greatest hits album.I had to keep it a secret so wouldn’t be considered uncool. A great singer.
Same here. Was a closet Englebert lover😂
Me too ..I had his LP from the 70s as a young kid, I still have it!
@@aversteegh1now, now, don't exited us too much..lol 😂❤😂
Would love for you to watch his Vegas concert singing Love Me With All of Your Heart! He is fantastic and so fun to watch!
Engelbert and Tom Jones both still singing today in their 80s, rich-smooth voices. Loved it...☝️✨👍🤓
A classic song recorded by well over 100 artists, "Release Me (and Let Me Love Again)" dates back to the late '40s, and has a convoluted history. It was written by Eddie Miller and two of his bandmembers: guitarists Bobby Gene Yount and Dub Williams. Miller fronted an act called Eddie Miller and his Oklahomans, which recorded the first version of this song in either 1949 or 1950.
Cool. Love to hear the stories behind so many great classics.
Interesting.
- but Engelbert “owned “ it.
📻🙂
Love is All,The Way it Used to Be,After the Lovin’…you are just beginning the journey down this rabbit hole!
Ok y"all! I'm hooked on you two, not only because it's good clean fun and to see another generation and their reactions are priceless, but I absolutely love all the 60"s, 70"s and 80's music as it brought back so many good memories. Did love me some Engelbert Humperdink when my mom would listen to him, but not crazy about the name.
Hope the cheer competition went well! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for sharing! Be Blessed and keep up the fun!!
“The last waltz”, is a must IMO, and it’s my favourite song from Arnold Dorsey which is his real name, he took his stage name Engelbert Humperdinck from a 19th century German composer. A great choice as he has become an icon over this side of the pond, with a career spanning 70 years, and more than 50 albums the latest of which was released last year to celebrate his 87th birthday.
Love The Last Waltz,Welcome to My World,Love is All…so many to pull at your heartstrings!❤️
Oh, I love him!!! He was soooo smooth!!! "After the Lovin" is my all time favorite!! He was really big in the 60's and '70's!
Another CLASSIC. Full of emotion. Memories of broken relationships. There were always good times as well as bad, weren't there? Always brings back memories andTears.
The video might have said 1989, but Engelbert first hit with it in the late 60's. He had a massive hit with "After the Lovin" in the late 70s. You will really like that one.
My mom loved a couple of his songs. "After the Loving" was one.
I'm really enjoying the channel and how you both love music. I've been watching a lot of your past videos ... seeing how much you both like Lionel Ritchie and Alabama you have to check out them together on "Deep River Woman".
All of these are amazing. "Love me with all of your heart" - "Les Bicyclettes de Belsize" - "The Last Waltz" - "Am I that easy to Forget" - "After the Lovin" I've run the gamut with Engelbert, starting with vinyl then 8 tracks, cassettes, cd's, and now on my phone. You never grow tired of great music by a great singer like Engelbert Humperdink. Thanks guys!
Love Me With All Of Your Heart is my favorite Engelbert song.
He had dozens of fabulous songs spanning over 4 decades. I think that his most beautiful song ever was a very early recording : Because I Love You So. There is a video done with this song that will bring you to tears just because it is SO beautiful.
I'm glad you came back to EH again. Of all the talented crooner in the last 100 or so years, he is my favorite by a fair margin. Can't wait for more!
I love engle Bert I heard him in 1967. I was 17. Ow I am going to see him live in the opera house Manchester the 9 Th. My son in law got me the tickets for my birthday in sept. It's a dream come true. 🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🍷🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
He's my favorite. I saw him in concert about 7 years ago. He was old but ladies were still throwing their bras on stage 🤣
I'll show you how old I am. I saw him in Las Vegas at The HIlton. Same stage I saw Elvis. Back when we all wore suits and ties to concerts in Vegas.
ENGELBERT IS NOW 86 YEARS OLD. CAME OUT WITH BARRY WHITE'S SONG, THE FIRST, THE LAST, MY EVERYTHING RECENTLY. YOU MUST PLAY IT!! HE STILL HAS IT! SO ENTERTAINING!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Late to the party.AGAIN!!.LOL!! My mother LOVED him!! Pretty much ANY song he sang was gold. My personal favorite is Take My Heart.
Another one to hit from Englebert is probably his biggest hit, and that is The Last Waltz it's such a great song
Aw man……smooth as silk! Handsome you boot! Love this guy!! ❤
After the loving....Baby Maker!!! One of the best concerts I've been to.
please do love me will all your heart, amber you hit it dead on about his voice, it has a richness to it and is very powerful and sounds great when he lets it soar. Amber best described his voice, he has a richness to it.
I don't remember hearing this on the radio but I do remember hearing 'After The Loving', 'Les Bicyclettes de Belsize', 'A Man Without Love'.
This song in particular takes me back to my childhood in the 70s. My mom would walk around the house singing this constantly! Nice to hear this version if from ‘89. The production values of these types of songs are such a signature of the times. I doubt they will ever be replicated. Thanks guys.
I think everyone's mom loved Engelbert Humperdinck, including mine, when she was still alive. You need to react to After the Lovin!
Engelbert does a cute song called My Wife the Dancer. Have never heard anyone react to it,but it shows another side to the amazing guy!
My grandma absolutely loved Engelbert Humperdinck (she called him "My Little Humpy!") She would absolutely swoon listening to this song in particular. It was hilarious to watch her reaction! Brings back some great memories! Thank you both!
I saw him in concert in the late '80s. In the middle of the show, he put on a white tee shirt. He asked all the women to put on some lip stick and come up and kiss the front of his shirt! 😅 I tell you, young and old ladies all came up and kissed his shirt. When it was all done, there were all these lip prints all over the front of Engelbert's shirt!! So funny and almost surreal! My girlfriend, now wife, thought it was a bit gross 😂. He also did a lot of impressions and comedy. Great show!
Both of you have great taste! It doesn’t get much better than Engelbert music! 💕
Perfection! One of the best voices ever. My grandparents loved him! You have to do more!
My very favorite song by Englebert Humperdinck is "Les Bicyclettes de Belsize" and though the title is in French the song is in English and it's absolutely beautiful! You won't be disappointed!
Give a listen to Love Ne with All of Your Heart. Also,it’s about time to start listening to all of Neil Diamond’s Christmas treasures. It’s the season!
After the Lovin from late 1970s was his best song came out 1977 the music and the way he sings it you won’t be disappointed
My Nan loved Englebert. I will always remember watching her and grandad dancing to the last waltz at the Xmas eve disco at our local working man’s club when I was little and then them picking me up and dancing me around with them. God I miss them so much😢
ETA this also kept the Beatles strawberry fields/ penny lane
off the number one spot breaking their streak of 17 number ones xx
My Mom's Favorite Having Seen Him Twice in Concerts. She Said He Was "Magical'. Just To Add Some Info To Your Selection Today, He & Tom Jones Were Both Popular About The Same Time, & Were Somewhat 'Rivals' For Their Type of Music. Really Loved Them Both! I Absolutely Love Your Channel, Both Your Wonderful, Loving Personalities, Combined With Your Giving Me The Opportunity To Return Back To Such Beautiful Times & Music. I Would Love. if You Would Play Two Requests For Me--(1)- " Constant Craving "-by k.d. Lang (Preferably Live & Was a #1 Hit For Her.💞). Then- (2) " Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town "-- By " Kenny Rogers and The First Edition" (A Hit From The Late 1960's, BEFORE Kenny Rogers WAS Kenny Rogers & Was First Starting Out His Career & Sang in This Group). 😲 Thanks So Much For Your Time & Sharing Your Sweet, Sweet Family With Us! Much Love To You Both! ❤💗❤
Last Waltz, Love Me WithAll of Your Heart, sooo many great ones!
I'm glad you got back to some EH. You would really love "Spanish Eyes". Preferably the studio version.I've suggested before a couple of other crooner/easy listening artists before in Al Martino "I Love You Because" and "Look Around (you'll find me there)". Roger Whitaker, "The Last Farewell", "I Don't Believe In If Anymore". We need more Bobby Darin "Artificial Flowers". Along with more Andy Williams and Perry Como.
I took my mother to see him. One of the most enjoyable concerts. Quite the entertainer and very funny. I was so glad I went with her.
Engelbert Humperdinck is a fantastic singer and does a fantastic job with this song. I remember as a kid, my mom singing this song along with the radio. She also had this song on an LP record. Engelbert was one of her all-time favorite singers.
Thanks for these looks back (for me) to the era when I grew up in England as a kid. My mom, who died 10 years ago, was English and loved to listen to crooners including Englebert and Tom Jones, who were frequently on TV variety shows on the BBC and Independent Television (the UK's commercial network). Some even had their own shows for a while. (Have you ever checked out the Irish folk singer Val Doonican, a big name in the UK in those days? He had his own TV show.)
An amazing singer and had so many female fans, including my mom.
My father introduced me to Mr. Humperdink on our old 8 track stereo player. What a revelation!
Jay might like to know there's an Engelbert-BeeGees connection... in 1970, Engelbert did the song Sweetheart which was a BeeGees song written by Barry & Maurice Gibb!!!
This is a later performance but the song was released in 1966. Just goes to show how well the song and singer both held up.
Les Bicyclettes de Belsize is a favourite of mine. I've seen him twice, and he sounds great live.
This was an unbelievably huge hit in the UK.
Love Engleburt!! So many beautiful songs. So glad you finally got to him. Please do Les Bicyclettes de Belsize Next. It’s my favorite and it showcases his beautiful amazing voice.
"After the Lovin" might be his most famous song (certainly up there). "Spanish Eyes"; "My World"; "This is My Song"; "How to Win Your Love"; "The Way It Used to Be"; "Quando, Quando, Quando"' "Love Can Fly"; "Marry Me"; "True" and so many others are worth checking out. Quite a deep rabbit hole.
What a song writer....oh, yeah....and a great singer.
A favorite of mine is "Radio Dancing" from 1989 not what you expect but a great song, and it has everything you love in it 🎸🎷🎤🎵
The name was the idea of his manager to get him noticed. Gerry Dorsey wasn't cutting it even though the voice was always there. Had his own show on tv in the UK. Huge star in the 1960s.
Finally got a round to Engelbert. Crooners unite. Unfortunately you made my mama cry with this pick of song. This song is so contradicted He has such a pleasant soulful voice. But to sing a song of this content summons an emotion that just pulls you apart inside. This man is my mom's favorite. She went diving in to her old records grabbed the tissues, And I haven't seen her For the rest of the night. So I guess I should say thank you. Haha
Memories of my dad singing this, 'Spanish Eyes' or 'Save the last waltz' as he worked away in his shed or green house, happy days!
Check out Welcome To My World and Love is All. You will get to see two different looks of his through the years…but both are ahhhhmazing!
Take a little bit of Elvis and a little bit of Tom Jones, add in a late 80s Kurt Russell mullet and the Wayne Newton Vegas/Tuxedo thing and you got it all in Engelbert Humperdink
My late Mom's fave.😊
