A lovely video of a walk I make quite frequently, so hats off to you for giving it a go. I'd just like to point out that there's a diversion on the part between Aberavon beach and Brunel's dock in the 'Ferry, so anyone thinking of doing this one needs to pay careful attention to the signage at the end of the beach. Great effort, really glad I've found your channels.
Wow well done Marcus! That is an epic achievement! You didn't mention that walk when we met at the Porth cawl truck show! Fantastic achievement. Thanks again for popping by and giving us a try :)
Hello from the States. Just found your channel. Enjoy your videos. All the walking is good exercise. Happy that you are enjoying the good life. I hope to do some of those hikes someday. Stay well, keep healthy.
Stunning walk mate,Kenfig pool & the area around it 😍😍 like a secret haven, stunning area.....even with the steel works its done nothing but thrive for nature for years, i would also like to say RIP to the Track workers who lost their life all local lads not too far from one of the crossing points you used.
Great job Marcus. The last scene showed just how hard it had been. Well done you, but take care, don't burn out, we are enjoying this channel and Marcus walks so much.
Hi, Awesome live video of Wales. I enjoyed it. Can't wait to see more soon. I was wondering if you could do Edinburgh city in Scotland next time. In Canada we have a heatwave also. See you next video. Cheers 😀
I walked from Cornelly garage to Porthcawl in that heat the other week and that was enough... 23 miles is crazy in that heat lol. Although some stunning areas, I never been up on that trail toward Margam before, looks really peaceful.
Great video, you made it well done.If I had done that I would have tipped that larger over my head. When we drive to the holiday places we never see this side of the fence, very interesting.
Fantastic! Well done for walking that far. That part of the docks is lovely at night as well, over from Rasoi just up from that hotel there's a very nice multi coloured light installation.
Ah awesome, I recently did these sections, doing the Wales Coast Path in sections, I took a break on that bridge just before Kenfig :), currently at Swansea, my hometown.
That was an amazing walk in this heat Marcus, can’t believe you didn’t wear a hat of some sort,I regularly walk 10/15 miles, and know how hard that must have been for you, excellent video, have you ever walked the old railway line from pontrydyfen, towards cymmer ,there a nice pub half way around the 10 mile walk,it’s called the refreshment rooms, and was the old waiting rooms/station,it still has the platform outside And jut down the road from the pub is the old viaduct the trains used to go from port talbot to Glyncorrwg
He has an exceptionally big head ;) its true, so its not that easy to buy one. He bought a hat to wear in Turkey. and lost it before we even got there!
me and a mate did this walk yesterday not the prettiest but certainly one of the toughest god knows how you did it in that heat ?!! we started at the co-op in porthcawl and ended at the bank statement wetherspoons in wind street 25 miles in total my mate used this video now and again for reference points lol
Well done, yep, parts of the walk aren't the most picturesque bits of the Wales Coast Path. There are diversions over the hills behind Port Talbot but these add quite a few extra miles.
Well done that MAN! 23 miles? fantastic, Would never have done it walked 20/25km, but thats nothing to your achievement, and the route, followed you everywhere on google streetview, brill directions from you, (Margam must have been a pain?) fully understand it could not have been a full coast walk, but never mind love your walks. very obscure places but well known at same time? loads of places I wish I had been for a walk but never did, driven though? ah South Wales, please do all of it?
great video ive always wanted to do this walk but was unsure of route round steel works and now i know ! ive walked all over south wales most recently maesteg to cymmer to pontrhydyfen to aberavon sea front last friday
I grew up a few hundred yards from Aberavon Beach. In those days (the 70s) the place was rammed full of holiday makers down from the valleys. As a student I rented out deckchairs and within a few hours hardly had any left. In the summer my mates and I would spend hours surfing and swimming there. My how times have changed - though the water's probably a LOT cleaner. EDIT: Just realised you ended up at the Premier Inn which is 200 yds from where I live today lol.
Yes, the water and the area around Aberavon is so much cleaner that back in the 70s. The seafront was really busy with families when I passed through. Yes, I ended up in the Premier Inn that night. Luckily, it had really good air conditioning in the room which I needed (and a bar!)
My father worked at the steel works in the 1950’s and 1960’s. He was an electrical erection superintendent. His company was responsible for erecting the sub stations.
The heat wasn't as bas as I thought. Would have been hard whatever the weather. Don't really like wearing a hat as I feel my head is even hotter (and I've got a big head). The main thing is that I plenty of drinks.
Very well done Marcus. I take it you'll be walking home tomorrow. Maybe a few more beers first - but make it proper beer - not that gnats; piss. Hwyl fy ffrind.
@@flydriveexplore I bet you will think twice about doing that walk again Marcus lol. Can't wait for you to do a documentary on the old docks at Briton Ferry.
@@Sanddancer1 I think the National Trust site is still closed. It was closed a couple of months ago when I went past. It's been closed for quite a while (their website is still showing the place as closed).
It isn’t closed but there is no access from the Port Talbot dock side. You can access it from Kenfig Sands but you can’t leave the beach from where you can see the cranes, you have to walk back the way you came
What a tremendous undertaking. I am genuinely impressed that you managed to complete the walk. At the beginning of the video, it appeared that you might have been suffering from a spot of sunstroke. I bet that iced-cold lager slipped down a treat - and you certainly earned it. Incidentally, if you have buggered up your knee then consider treating it with a massage gun - they are cheap enough on Amazon (the cheaper ones are just as good as the more expensive ones). Don't apply the massage gun directly to the boney parts of the knee - just to the fleshy parts, especially where the thigh joins the knee.
The copper ore was brought in from across the channel in Cornwall. What was needed in greater quantity was coal and water which the area had plenty of.
The taff trail often smells of cannabis as I cycle to and from Cardiff on the bike. Never been bothered by anyone smoking a joint, booze however, I’ve had a number of run ins with drunk people on the trail Over the years
Great walk. Congratulations. I felt exhausted watching. You're fit.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Hi - It was good to meet you again.
Well done that man! Interesting and expansive beaches along that walk I never knew about!
That stretch of coast which became heavily industrialised but it was once a large section of sand dunes stretching around Swansea Bay
Great effort mate! Never thought parts of S Wales would look like S Spain ! Thanks once again from afar :)
Yep, with all the sun a dry weather we've been having the countryside is looking very different to usual.

Wow Marcus. Mega trek. Love Swansea area, but Port Talbot steel works is such a blot on the landscape.

Thanks very much for watching!
Some effort Marcus. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for watching!
Great effort Marcus. That larger was well deserved.
It tasted good!
Fair play I've done that walk before and it's no stroll especially when you have to walk miles out of your way because of industry .
And filming and carrying the camera adds extra time. I need at least 3 or 4 takes! Believe it or not these are the best.
Thank you for sharing your walk...

Hi Marcus and Mel.
Hello.
Hi am from swansea near mumbles. You should try clyne valley walk there even a pub to have a drink
