Thank you so much! My sister and I are travelling to Wales first week of October and staying 5 days in Cardiff. I think I have watched almost every video :) Very glad I found your channel!
I originally grew up in Rest Bay Porthcawl however I left in rhe 1980s living now in Edinburgh. Love your videos as they transport me back home to Wales. Your videos are the only ones I will watch online. I enjoyed this video as I always wondered what the coast was like heading East from Porthcawl. Keep up the good work!
Glad you like them! If you want to see more walks around the area take a look at my other channel @MarcusWalks - I will be posting local stuff on there in 2024
@@flydriveexplore I have seen quite a few of them including the ones on the cruise ships. Will definitely watch more of them as they are very interesting. I also enjoyed the one you did along the old railway 🚂 nto Porthcawl. I must watch your walk from Porthcawl to Swansea next. I still visit Porthcawl as it is still home even after leaving 36 years ago! Take care
Excellent walk Marcus. And well earned pint, too. I've walked all the area but only in short strolls - no longer capable I'm afraid. Keep 'em coming. Diolch.
Yeah if you've ever seen Hearst Castle it's really over the top and eccentric. Citizen Kane is a perfect reference. Very nice there's so much to see on these paths.🌊
ive done llantwit to porthcawl so many times ive never done it in reverse but may well do ! i did llantwit major to penarth last year that was interesting
You lucky bugger! I have never seen the ogmore so low and feeble? brave man crossing, another fantastic walk Marcus, superb views, done bits but you went all the way, well done that man, you are fulfilling my dreams? (well sort of) keep on doing South Wales
Hi Marcus again enjoyed the vid. I watched your vid some time ago when you went and found merthyr mawr windmill. Well we're going to a food festival there on sunday and I was looking forward to finding the windmill. Someones only marked that on google as well now. I was disappointed I now don't have to search for it myself!
I really enjoyed the walks as it’s a eye opener for me Marcus as I live in port talbot and had no idea how to tackle these thank you so much for posting
Very interesting walk, thanks for sharing this video. I remember going to Nash Point Lighthouse on a school trip many years ago, I'm nearly seventy. We were able to go up inside the lighthouse where we were told each one had its own sequence of flashing so mariners could work out which part of the coast they were on. Thanks again, Bob M. South Wales (Crynant)
Awesome vid Marcus, going East is totally a diff world,i noticed something at 20 min 3 secs..is that a corn field?,& btw,if given the chance dont be shy trying the meat at the Blue Anchor, they a good customer of mine :) ( sorry about the plug) intresting also in your last vid going West you had Welsh black beef breed munching,& going east you got Welsh lamb..what i will say tho guys, when its warm beware of Adders if walking east.
I noticed that field, it did look like corn. We've seen quite a few Adders this year up Parc Slip nature reserve near Cefn Cribwr. They were lying in the sun just a few metres from the Adder information sign!
@@trigger1471 Yes, they are although the ones on the beach are covered in pebbles. In my Nash point video from last year, I went inside the one I showed.
Great video I walked from Rhoose to Swansea when I was in college back in the 90's before the coast path was set up I had to climb over farmers fences and all sorts . Did you know the last time aberthaw power was last fired up when the beast from the east hit the power station keep the UK from freezing .
@@flydriveexplore it was during the summer holidays me and my friend took camping gear and our surfboards we wild camped didn't rush i think we managed to get to Rhossili in about a week by the time we got there we'd run out of money and supplies we hitchhiked back wonderful times
Well done you quickly went passed the place with arson sign, you can't half walk a long way to wet your whistle, hope Mel made you something nice for tea, remember don't play with matches outdoors folks and take your glass bottles home as can magnify and cause fires
I believe that Lias Road in Porthcawl is named after a 19th century local merchant, Mr. Elias. Why they dropped the first letter of his surname, I don't know. Another great video by the way, thanks.
Thanks for the correction, I just made that connection based on the name and it's quite an unusual term/name. Why would they drop the first letter of a name if you wanted a street named after someone? Was it ever called Elias Road?
The bone’s you mention are probably from yr hen Eglwys; the old Church; which was on top of the cliff;which has been eroded away , one of the Kings of Glamorgan were buried near there , his nam was Ceri ap Caid , Ceri long sword they called him he fought against the Romans , he had ships and harassed the Romans coming up the Hafran , his buried the other side in a boat shaped mound with scrub on it , PorthCeri is named after him,
Keep them coming Marcus. Interesting that the places you've walked through in this video have been mentioned in a book I've read recently about the Severn " tsunami " of 1607.
@@flydriveexplore Yes, I read that. Same across the water in Brean and surrounding area, plaques on churches and other buildings referencing the destruction. Good work, keep the vids coming.
Another amazing walk Marcus. That was a well earned pint. How many calories do you burn walking 49000 steps? You should be an Ambassador for the Welsh tourist board.
Wow, even more daring then last time. When will you ever stop? When you can't physically do it anymore, right? Curious as to what the disaster or emergency plan is? Do you have foldable trekking stick in the bag? to get to a place where Mel can pick you up? Or, do you call 911, 999, 111 or whatever to get an air ambulance? I did see the helicopter over your head.
Although it seems remote, it is quite close to the roads just inland. That helicopter was the coastguard. By the way, the UK emergency number is 999 but you can still get help if you dial your home country's emergency number such as 911. Mel found this out when she sat on her phone, although it dialled 911 the police called her back to check she was OK.
Thank you so much! My sister and I are travelling to Wales first week of October and staying 5 days in Cardiff. I think I have watched almost every video :) Very glad I found your channel!
Hope you have a good time, it is a good base from which to explore the area. Where are you visiting from?
@@flydriveexplore Saskatchewan, Canada. Kind of a genealogy exploration and with Morgan in the family, how could we not visit the Vale :)
@@erin8516 Could be a descendant of Captain Morgan the pirate!
@@flydriveexplore More likely the rum! Arrrggghhhh me hearties!!
Wow, you should try to see some smaller towns, Wales is amazing.🌊
Your music in your videos is absolutely inspirational! Thank you for your time and energy showing people Wales! It’s beautiful!

Love this format, Marcus. Almost half an hour and the video flew by. Can’t wait for the next one!
Thanks, although these take a long time to do and edit. I have to get my own film crew.
That beer was really well earned. Thanks for taking us on this amazing journey, you have amazing stamina, the landscape is outstanding. Cheers!
Thanks, it was quite a distance but not as hard as my Swansea walk as it was much cooler.

the concrete blocks at aberthaw have graffiti carved on them by soldiers at the time

What do you wear on your feet? I’d be in blisters for a week! 🥾
I go for cheap walking trainers from Sports Direct. They are well warn in first, not something you would wear out to dinner!
