    I can really relate to this girl chat because when my dad was in university, he got good grades and someone said to him one day, "How are you so smart if you came from Africa?" Like race doesn't matter, being determined to learn does.

      +Zara. I'll never forget when I passed my exit exam and a friend of mines failed and hse had the audacity to get mad at me because she failed and go "Ugh, how did your stupid ass pass! I think that machine graded my test wrong"
      That really hurt me because I studied hard for that test and I comforted her when she found out she failed, but instead she turns around and chews me out and underestimate my intelligence.

      +Zara. That's the type of thing that leads minorities to suffer from having Imposter Syndrome. We always have to work twice as hard to go just as far and then, we find that our efforts are questioned even when we work our asses off. People like the Abby girl are always astonish that their White skin and their mediocre efforts aren't enough and try to throw the blame back on minorities who are actually putting in the effort and doing the work.

    This clip touched my heart. a professor in college told me I wouldn't get into med school or grad school and I should do something else not academic. I left there crying and could not understand why he would say such things to me. Then I remembered the difference in our skin. I am damn proud to say that i am currently halfway through Med school and doing very well. I set my own standards and aim to excel. Don't let the haters define you. my motto is "if you aim for the moon you may land amongst the stars but you may also get the damn moon" I'm halfway to my Moon and it's looking bright.

      Livana Koznesoff I can't even imagine what must have gone through your mind and heart when that professor said that. But I'm glad to hear that you didn't let it deter you from pushing on in your education. You go ahead and get that education and graduate with your head held high. Who know years from now said professor might just show up at YOUR practice for medical help. Wouldn't that be something...

      Even though people of different colors other than white still have to pushed their way out of the labels and stagma that they were position in from genaration of bandages and damage mindset of who they are or are not. All races was made by God because he took pleasures in creating beautiful colors . a white convas without colors on it is useless. And blank. Lots of people when they died will be in shocked when they encounter who God truly is. Thats why is stated all over the bible no man can see God and live because they will make God into an idol which will cause more hate for races than it is already. God is all the colors of the rainbow and so much more💕

    Currently working on my masters in education. Everything being said here is true! The school to prison pipeline is very real! Every single child is FULL of potential, we as a society need to fight for the children who have for so long been left behind and ignored. Growing up , Mom would get on my nerves talking about me going to university all the time and said it was her dream to see me graduate. She grew up in Ethiopia and never had that apportunity and it frustrated her that I didn't really value how lucky I was. Finally graduated this year with a great job offer and I wouldn't have done it without her pushing me. @@laurenabk4782 actually, we might have even less of an opportunity. I’m African, my parents are refugees, and I was born and raised in the hood. My family is dirt poor, but we make our bills. My momma told me herself that if I don’t get a big ass scholarship or a full-ride, I’m not going to college. I might go to a community college, but those ain’t cheap either. I’m a junior in high school and I’m working 2 part time jobs T.T I’ll give it up to my African American brother and sisters, but don’t do our struggle dirty. We fighting the same war. We ain’t all Prince Akeem. Anyways, I might still be a bit uneducated going to a Black charter school, but I’m gonna keep it at that. I’m not trying to start no drama though. education should not be taken for granted indeed but for me I'd just like to be taught skills that's will help in life, such as real economics. I'd like to be taught the truth about history and in other subjects (but we all know that's ain't happening.) I went to a school where they made us do a business plan right... we had to write out a business plan and talk about target audience and make the product and all this other bullshit but the whole time I was thinking why arnt we being taught about taxes, bank loans, saving and checking accounts. Why arnt we being taught about these other things that we clearly need to know about in life. I had to fail day school to go to night school to actually be taught about credit score and all this other stuff. education is important to me but the curriculum just throws me off all the time. it's unfair that certain schools are getting the tools needed in life and other arnt but this situation only push me to do self education and now I force myself to read more. What they won't teach I will learn cause the way to keep things from black people is to put it in a book.

    • @tyler2813
      @tyler2813 8 лет назад +23

      I totally agree with you. That's one thing that kind of lead me to drop out of college because I wasn't being taught in my opinion important fundamental things. I expect that in high school but college where your independent we should be taught these things but instead learn y=mx+b stuff. Even now school isn't about learning it's about how much you remember to pass a test to get the school money

    • @Churros1616
      @Churros1616 8 лет назад +6

      +SlayAnna It depends on what you choose to study. I had courses where I had to make a business plan and they were very useful, but I also had courses where I learned about taxes and bank loans, accounting, and more. But then again I study Business and Economics. High school education is never enough, if you want to learn different things go to college or university and do a major and a minor in the things u are interested in!

    It hurts me when people say things like "blacks aren't as smart as whites" because growing up right outside of Flint, I've seen it first hand. People cannot know what they aren't taught. I was so fortunate to go to a good school here, especially one who had teacher who were passionate about the arts and it shows. Even taking away the race issue here, I saw the productions that my school put on. I was in choir from 5th-12th grade, I was in the musicals, I loved to perform and my teachers were incredible. But I'd go to the next town over and watch their plays and it was painful to me. It was like they weren't taught or werent taught well and their sets weren't done well. These students had potential that they weren't reaching because they didn't have a teacher who was passionate about teaching them. And that's the issue in schools that are primarily black, only it's not the teachers faults. It's lack of funding and lack of supplies and books. But those kids have potential, it's just not able to be met because of the way this country treats them and it breaks my heart.

    Lonnie is so emotional i love that side of her. touching in what u said i would love to hear HOW your journey was. i know a lot of celebrities and famous people came from not so well off backgrounds. Some talk about it. I think celebrities should talk more about the steps they took to where they got now so they can reach out to the people they want to inspire, even more.

    I can relate to Loni ! I am in college the first in my immediate family to attend and I can honestly say thank you God ! I am an open minded individual , with a diverse mindset, and opportunities set forth ! I am also biracial . So when I think about how far I have gotten closer to my dreams compared to the projects with drug dealing ...daily homicides. I am grateful for my struggle in college. I try to push others to think the same about succeeding in life and not being closed minded . Education is key if it's from the white man or you're self taught just enlighten

    Loni's words ring so true! I dare someone try to underestimate me. As the child of two immigrants from Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere, my parents grew up with very little. But they stressed education as the way to liberate yourself from the shackles of poverty. My parents achieved it, and they encouraged me to go beyond even what they could achieve for me.
    So I busted my both throughout my whole public school experience, took every AP & Honors class I could fit in high school, graduated in the Top 10 of my class, got accepted into some of the most prestigious universities in the country, and right now as a student in NYU i'm pursuing my master's degree. Anyone that generalizes "black people don't do well in college of a higher standard ", please, have several seats. There are black students across the country going above and beyond the status quo.

Please keep supporting the importance of an education with your time and your fame. I hope you read this Loni. I'm going to say this once and hopefully ppl will understand. I have a BA and completed in 4yrs. I struggled because I was not prepared at all, but I was able by the Grace of God to finish. I am now applying for my Masters. Imagine running a marathon without training, shoes, and or understanding of what you were doing. That is how it feels sometimes as a black student in a predominantly white school. it's a glaring reminder of your inferior education. However, we do not use that as a crutch but rather a tool of change for the next generation.

    Aww this made me cry. It's sad that people think so highly of themselves that they don't take the time to acknowledge how their privilege has helped them. I didn't grow up rich, but I was blessed with a mother and family that told me I could do whatever I wanted if I worked hard. Although I am working my tail off in school to become a lawyer one day, I know that it is because of the love and support of those around me that allow me to have this much drive. I try to encourage everyone to get an education and do the very best they can do. Sometimes you can inspire and help someone just through your life. I know that sometimes it helps if someone just tells you that they are proud of you. Long post, but God bless you all.

I went to inner city schools and I came from a rough neighborhood, so I know the struggles of not having the connections, the money, or just basic information on how to get into a good university. I don't take education lightly because it's often the only way out of this crazy cycle. I don't take anything for granted, and I just thank God for having mercy on me.
