    It would be interesting if there was a non-points race that drivers get disqualified out of by winning a race in the previous year or ever winning a championship, but allowing the teams/cars to still run with a different driver. I feel like it would provide some great equipment opportunities for drivers like this, while also being an interesting experience for the fans.

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified 2 года назад +7

      Had to look that up, but yeah, except it would be the main event instead of a qualifier, and the cars from big teams would have empty seats to be filled by drivers that otherwise wouldn't have a car. (I assume they don't do that in the open because those cars are being saved for the main event with their usual drivers.)

    • @nothanksguy

      A fun idea, but good luck getting team owners to put their best cars and Best equipment in the hands of the unexperienced. There's a reason why teams don't just drop promising drivers and their top equipment, it is too financially risky.
      Imagine A team's best car gets torn up in this event, or even their backup car gets torn up. That is a huge loss for a team

    I would love to have seen an alternate timeline where Juan Pablo Montoya could have gotten hired on a good team after parting ways with Ganassi. It took him two or three seasons to really get the hang of oval racing in stock cars, but after that he was fast when the equipment was there. He also got to where he became a much more savvy and patient racer too. Had he stayed in Cup on a good team I think he would have won races; his top ten and top five totals the last few seasons were impressive. But I think in this universe Juan Pablo was getting tired of not winning and when the opportunities weren't coming, he went with Penske's offer to run in Indy car, where he had a career resurgance, and then went to run sports cars. There are only a handful of drivers who have won in Formula 1, Indycar, NASCAR and Le Mans, and Montoya is just about the most versatile driver of his era.

    One name came to mind when I saw the title of this video: David Reutimann. A lot of people won't agree but here are the facts: He finished 16th in points in 2010, while a future Cup Series Champion in Martin Truex Jr. finished 22nd in what was the same, if not better equipment than what Reutimann had. Unfortunately, Michael Waltrip Racing saw this as a sign that the equipment given to Truex wasn't matching his potential, and put every one of his assets toward getting Truex into a quality ride while also making room for Clint Bowyer. Having his decent tier equipment thrown into the dumpster had to have taken an emotional toll on Reutimann, and that combined with the lack of knowledge about how to get sponsorship (Went to BK Racing just to get a sponsor!!) led to him never stading a chance afterwards.
    If that doesn't deserve a stand-alone video, than I don't know what will.

    • @gabepollock1641
      @gabepollock1641 2 года назад +1

      I honestly think that what hurt Reutimann the most was his age. He was Truck Series ROTY in 2004, when he was 34 years old. If he broke through to the Trucks even 5 years earlier, he might’ve had another go of it after MWR for a team better than BK Racing.

    Johanna Long definitely, I was a huge fan of her's when she ran in Trucks and Xfinity (and I haven't had an Xfinity favorite since), I felt like her career was shunned by all the attention focused on she who shall not be named (the one who drove the GoDaddy, Tax Act, and Natures Bakery cars) She took a team that was a near backmarker in that 70 ML Motorsports ride, and took it to top 20 finishes, even a few top 15s as well too, she did well with a ride like that. I’ll echo all the ones saying Johanna Long, or Johanna Robbins, as she’s known now. But as a mom does she still have the fire. How does that change a woman’s perspective? I assume a lot more than being a dad affects a man. But if she still wants it, I’m confident she could be a regular Truck or Xfinity contender in ever moderately okay equipment. A few runs this year and a full-time ride next year, and I bet we’d see her in Victory Lane before Hailie Deegan. Which is not meant as a knock on Hailie. It would be great to see, for the first time in maybe ever, not just one but two genuinely capable and competitive women out there.

    Kaz Grala is the reason I still dislike Austin Cindric to this day. When he dumped Kaz in Canada for the win and showed absolutely no remorse he exposed himself as an entitled rich kid. Kaz then missed a round of the playoffs by less than the amount of points he would've had if he won. Kaz deserves a big chance.

He's proven he can drive and beat the best in the trucks, it would be interesting to see if he could compete with the guys in the Cup series.

    Jeremy Mayfield…his alleged drug problems were never conclusive and I feel like Evernham cheating on his wife with Crocker played a big role as well. I believe NASCAR has even since said he would be allowed to complete again. Maybe not Cup or Xfinity citing his age, but he would be another good wiley old veteran in the Truck Series that could easily rattle off some wins.

    Gotta love the whole 'he's had chances' bit with Matty D...the guy can show his stuff on superspeedways & short tracks. So many other drivers have so many chances, never get mentioned. Honestly, my gut is he will be up there in the Trucks for a few years. Could carve out a solid ride in that series, maybe even be in the hunt for a playoff run.
    Past name honorable mention? Mike Bliss.

He drove for Rick Ware in indy car so Rick could plug him into the 15 car or something for a road course race or something. Especially with the new cars being great on road courses and the fact that RWR has some of their better runs there. Maybe he could do well in a one off. You never know.

When the car needed some work he "got his hands dirty" and helped them work on it. They were impressed.
