I've been watching so many unwrapping tutorials as a beginner and this is the only one I've seen where I can actually follow what I'm watching - thank u for this
Thanks! Yeah everyone wants to dive immediately into the unwrapping algorithms and marking seams and stuff. Doesnt really explain how it works and can get frustrating. Not enough people are teaching the absolute basics.
i thought this was extremely slow but reading the comments i quickly understood it was aimed at beginners so kudos to you for making great content that helps people!!!
Thanks for the kind words. Yeah my content is very much for those who have very few hours logged in on blender. Hoping to help bridge that beginner gap for a lot of people. I usually get some passive agro comments from those looking for something that assumes they already know how to navigate blender comfortably. Thanks for being kind! I hope you find a tutorial that matches your skill level!
i really want to get into making 3d visuals for my music so this is really cool and gave me a little bit of a sense of how blender works. thanks man :) cant wait to learn more
solid ah tutorial a lot of super useful stuff here for this specific style. setting round to pixels on corner was also a really useful setting for what i'm doing specifically for any other meticulous fellows out here
what is the usual process when creating the texture like in this example? Do you draw it with the 3D shape in mind from the start in something like acesprite?
Usually yes and yes I use aseprite though you can use whatever art program you like. I typically take the 3D shape into consideration as I am drawing on my UV map. I try to imagine it unfolded flat kind of like a papercraft before you assemble it. Now, this tutorial isnt the best on demonstrating that process since I skip it. Its not the best for people making complex objects who cant visualize it unfolded in their minds before UV unwrapping. Personally, I usually tend to draw the texture while I UV unwrap, so every shape I unwrap I draw/texture in before I move to the next. This tutorial however was just to get the basic ideas across for beginners how UV mapping works. I am actually recording a "How to draw textures for low poly" tutorial right now that should cover those how to's in much more depth but It wont be out for a bit as of posting this.
This might help if you want to do unlit like I do in all of my tutorials and thumbnails. Otherwise I dont have a tutorial on staging lights just yet. If you still have questions afterwards, let me know whats up. ruclips.net/video/rS8N0_UWJac/видео.html
Ah, this is something I am addressing in an upcoming tutorial for low poly character modeling and texturing. A lot of those issues come from the UV shape itself being warped or over stretched. Sometimes splitting the quad on the object you are UV mapping into two triangle helps either resolve this or at least shows what part of the UV shape is having issues. I know this isnt a clear response/answer. Without having a visual, I cant give a clear instruction on resolving your issue specifically. If you want more direct help, feel free to bug me over on twitter. I dont have a Q&A Email set up yet, but its in the works as well.
Thanks mate, this video helped alot! I have one question; is it common to make a texture before uv unwrapping? I have been making the model first THEN drawing the texture onto the uv map. Idk if what I'm doing is bad practice.
Aren't you doing this backwards? You have a texture ready before you have a UV map. How do you know where to place objects on the texture before having the map laid out?
The object is extremely simple, Im showing some things you can do the guess work and work your UVs around a texture instead. Not an uncommon thing to do for objects specially simple ones. This is also one of my first tutorials, some details I leave unexplained unfortunately which doesnt make the best example. These details I have to learn from for making future tutorials. The upcoming UV tutorial will show UV mapping then texturing for complex objects.
4:28 So, i have a problem that when i select the viewport shading to textured, my texture just doesnt show up at all, i've tried to search about it but i can't find anything about it
@@wolfan20 I cant answer that totally. I do have a tutorial coming up on how to start painting the model but other than that its a bring your own creativity endeavor.

THhanks this really has been the best comprehensive tutorial on primabase, pixel and UV editing. I did wait for the export

I was playing with Blender around a year ago and got stumped when it came to UV mapping, but you made it super easy to understand. Thanks!
This is a real good tutorial! I appreciate the magnifier aswell, it makes it easier to follow your mouse and see what you clicked.
This tutorial explains everything so well and doesn’t leave anything out! I never found a tutorial that explains it this well.
Really handy tutorial, thank you! I fell off of teaching myself blender a couple months ago and this is really helping me shake off the rust.
Im glad it helped!
thanks for this. very easy to follow!
goat tutorial!
Thank you so much for these tutorials! You have helped me greatly!
So I modelled the The low poly ramen, it's on my channel.
I credited you in the description.
looks rad!
@@illusionofmana thanks!
You can align the view to selected in case you wanna unwrap on an arbitrary plane!

Great tutorial! Super helpful!
ik im kinda late to this vid but super good well paced tutorial
what a great tutorial! hope you make more
If I can get past the tired accumulated from this past week, Ill have the next one posted this weekend!
LOVE YOU
Thanks dude, really enjoyed the tutorial!

wow slow and informative, well done
tutorial on how to draw these textures please? :D
Its in the plan!
Much needed ;_;
Thankt you man! You are lifesaver
slowly im figuring this out. i appreciate the video, very helpful place to start, though i think i have much room for improvement lol
what can be done if the downloaded textures dont show up in the file box in blender?
Thank you for the video!
are you planning to release tutorial how to make your own textures in the near future? great video!

Ill be crediting you when I show off my Ramen on IG but I am super curious as to how I export the rotating version
the first half of this video will cover that. ruclips.net/video/rS8N0_UWJac/видео.html

Is exporting the UV Layout going to work for something like Unity?
It should! You may need to make sure your import settings for your object in unity are set correctly. But by default it should be fine.
did u find anything?
Been having trouble uv mapping out objects that aren't perfectly straight so when I go to paint the pixels are sometimes diagonal.

No you're doing it right
Either or, I tend to do mine while I unwrap or sometimes after. There's no right answer, its whatever you're comfortable with.

Hi, I really love your video, but one day can you make how to make in aseprite textures for your low poly?
Its in the works. It actually keeps getting delayed due to work. But its going to be coming up.

What if i want to paint in the model myself?.
go for it! Or are you asking how you should go about doing that?
@@illusionofmanaYes, how can i do that?, i have an image of the colors for it, but i would preffer to paint it myself.
@@wolfan20 I cant answer that totally. I do have a tutorial coming up on how to start painting the model but other than that its a bring your own creativity endeavor.
@@illusionofmanaI see, well, can't wait for the upload, im in the character modeling part and i can't wait to paint her.
