The Clash played at the Capital Theatre Sydney in 1982 . The had 7 consecutive nights of concerts where the concerts were touted as the Magnificent Seven . I recall to this day as I was 17 that they were incredible to say the least. It was amazing how they reached out ( and still do ) to their audience probably to the likes that we may never see this purity ever again . They were Magnificent !

"You're only as good as your drummer". One of the last great rock bands when they had Topper Headon on the drum throne. I saw them live with and without him.....there was no comparison and Jonesy knew it. Then Joe fired Jonesy (which was like firing Jimmy Page from Zeppelin for God's sake) it was all over. Such a loss. But we still have this MAGNIFICENCE.

@@princeofcupspoc9073 True! I heard that as well. Sadly Joe passed to soon. I also heard that this reunion of the Clash was so close to happening, they wanted to get back out on the road, and when Joe did pass, they strongly considered a sort-of- tribute show, or tour with Tim Armstrong on vocals. Of course he’s no Strummer, but what a great choice for a tribute to Joe. IMO, Armstrong would have been the only choice!

I bought "Sandinista" as a 3 record vinyl for 18.99 at "Sam The Record Man" on Young St. in Toronto when it was released, (going rate for a reg LP being 7.99 at the time). Here we are 40 years later (Sam's is gone) and it's still in my regular rotation and I could say it would be my ONE choice for that "deserted island" only record I could have, because of the pure and genuine innovative goodness packed into it. The Clash, and Joe Strummer primarily, really had his finger on the pulse and his good ear to the ground at this point in time, and this record spelled out what was coming down the pike (and influenced it to a certain degree) , as well as exposed people to genres of music they might not encounter in their local scene. "London Calling" was nominated as best recording of the decade in the 80's, but for me personally, Sandinista is it.
I was fortunate to live through this time, but we didn't have the access to all the great video footage instantly available like we do now, and there in, is the gold in the treasure chest.

Great band, great song. And, let me say, Tom Snyder always hosted one terrific show.

August 27th, the year was 1982. University of Pennsylvania, Class of '23 Arena. I was 15 and saw what was not only my first concert, but might as well have been my last. The opening act was another legendary band named Burning Spear. It was a hall of fame worthy night and it took me years before I realized what I witnessed.
    Thanks Mark Pignitore!

+MUD=_- Agreed, thanks for bringing it to attentions. The whole band performance is complete for me...with pure poetry. Also one of few times I seen Joe not mess his words singing live. Here he was on point and raw. Great skills as always too from Topper. In short...brilliant!

Matthew Breeden It's not actually his line, he's doing a really great job of covering Norman Watt Roy's bass part on the original album/single version.

The incredible thing is that he didn’t even play bass when he joined- they brought him on cause they liked the way he looked. Turned out to be a good call, cause holy hell did he get the hang of it.

Damn if Mick's delay pedal isn't going full force, filling so much space, and at least 2 years before U2 started doing it at that. The Clash really were poised to take over stadiums. But I dunno, how things ended up were just as good.

Being familiar with the album-version, I would have assumed this song was too stuffed full of disco sound-effects to be performed so well straight-forwardly in the Clash's standard live four-piece configuration. This one of those rare situations in which I am actually pleased to have been completely and totally wrong.

I effing LOVE this..even better than the studio version. Mick's guitar is awesome, and Joe's intensity? It's like he's from some alternate reality - the greatest frontman ever. They had it all - talent, passion, originality, looks and style.

Completely redefined the word "intense". Whew! I remember watching this, heart-pounding, because they were THE band for me. They did not disappoint.
