  • This is my first time of using Snow Foam for cleaning a car. Is snow foam worth it? I also show my findings whilst cleaning the Mondeo ST220 and the Vauxhall Astra Convertible and we'll see what I found. I am not a car valeter or detailer, I just wanted to see how snow foam works so this is what I found out.

    This is only my opinion / experience after a year or two of snow foaming... Dont do the first off rinse, it just waters down the foam (even tho the internetz will melt down for even suggesting this). You should only need about 20% deteregent. You havent got a propper snow foam gun, it makes a LOT of difference. Look at bilt hamber auto foam its the only one ive tried actually removed that stuck on film pressure washers never get off... So bilt hamber in proper foamer, leave 10 min pressure wash off. Done... Only problem with bilt hamber is its so good it can dry the oil out of hinges on the door and petrol flap so keep an eye / greased

    The reason the snowfoam hasn't foamed up aswell as you may of hoped is because the pressure washer is diluting it as you go therefore always run the snowfoam neat and also a tioe for the wash and wax if you want a foamy result with the shampoo fill the bucket with shampoo first but fill it so the bottom is completely covered and I'd say has atleast risen a couple mill that bucket looks like it may be a 15-20 ltr bucket so may have to put double the amount of what the bottle says

    Use a leaf blower and a descent drying towel (kiln) never let them air dry and the water marks will never be a problem unless the water you rise with is 100% pure the lime will dry to the paint and it’s a absolute nightmare to ever remove keep up the car cleaning content and we can all learn together 👍🏻

    Martin, run the snowfoam NEAT on full mix and on LOW PRESSURE. Quality jetwashers have pressure setting, budget ones let you do it but pulling or pushing the nozzle - read the manual - crap ones don't even have a pressure setting

    I went over the car with the pressure washer to get rid of all the grit and dirt, then coated it with a good layer of snow foam and then went over it with a sponge, rinsed it off, came up really well. Another good video 👍.

    The idea of snow foam (as you alluded to) is to soften and loosen up dried-on dirt and help lift it (or some of it) away from the paint, so you do not have to rub at it as hard with the "touch" wash making it much less likely to leave scratches in the paint. It's not a replacement for the traditional wash process.
    I don't know if that s a dedicated snow foam nozzle or just the detergent mixer one, but K'archer makes a snow foam nozzle/bottle for about £20 (the last time I looked).
    I use Auto Finesse Avalanche Snow Foam, which doesn't foam up as much either (it looks very similar to yours), but I live in an area with very hard water, so I have put it down to that.
    As a side note, personally, I try and not use products/shampoos that have "wax" in them as the added wax tends to get on black plastics and make them go white much, much quicker (it's a bit like when you wax your car you get some on the plastic and it's hard to get off). Not all shampoos foam up much and don't have to for them to work properly either. People tend to use too much trying to get them to foam up more.

    Hi Martin, I have snow foamed all my cars every time they needed a wash for the past 10 years. Don't pre rinse with cold water. no need. I use Autobrite lance and Autobrite Magifoam. I can't recommend Autobrite as their customers service is dire and you have to wait weeks for an order. But with the right lance and good snowfoam you can get it so thick it will dwell for hours. It will also sit on the drive for days looking like real snow. But you don't need to go that thick, just thick enough for it to dwell for about 15 mins. Takes 75% of the dirt off and dead easy to wash then.

    liking the time-lapse music .. really getting the funk out ( well soul really ) .. in my experience the snowfoam & lance you've got is ideal for cleaning works van / daily hack .. for a nice car ( like your St220 ) get Bilt Hamber snow foam & a pro lance , a bit pricy but lasts a long time & does a top job

  • @zXLuke4efcXz
    @zXLuke4efcXz 3 года назад +1

    There's 3 critical factors that contribute to how good the foam is;
    1) Snow foam lance - unfortunately the Karcher branded one is a bit crap. I bought a cheap one from Amazon and it works much better. You can spend silly money on a lance, but if you look on Amazon and find that there's half a dozen that look the same, but with a different brand on it (ProKleen, Qooltek etc.) they're all the same. This is the main reason why you're foam isn't very thick, and would be the first thing I'd change.
    2) Snow foam product - I've never heard of dirtbusters (and I'm not entirely sure why a pre-wash has wax in it). However, some foams (such as Autobrite Magifoam, Autoglym Polarblast) are designed to be really thick. Others, such as Bilt Hamber Autofoam, are not as thick. Worth noting that the Bilt Hamber Autofoam is arguably the best performing snow foam you can buy in terms of pre-cleaning ability. It's also one of the best priced per litre too!
    3) Pressure washer- The higher the output pressure/flow of your jetwash, the thicker your foam will be. I haven't watched the whole video so idk if you mention what jetwash you have. The Karcher K4 can produce pretty thick foam, but something like a Kranzle K7 is a little better. You can still get decent results using a Karcher K2 if you get the other 2 points I mentioned dialled in.
    Around 200ml and fill the rest with warm water is about the average ratio. Obviously you can tweak that accordingly, depending on what foam etc. you're using.
    Definitely don't use it neat, that's just a massive waste of product.
    Spot on about the sheeting having no wax vs beading having a layer of wax (15:05). Personally I'm not a fan of car shampoos containing wax, I find them to dull the finish of my existing wax and cause it to sheet rather than bead. Something like Autoglym Pure Shampoo is what I prefer.
    immediately
    I'm also not that anal about washing my car that I need to use 2 buckets (one to rinse the dirty wash mitt and the other with fresh suds). It's a bit of a waste of time as once your rinse bucket gets dirty (after the first "dunk") then all that dirt will just transfer to the clean bucket anyway.
    I'm sure you'd figure out everything I've said here, but hopefully it cuts a few corners out for you.
    Sorry for the long comment lol.

    I always use 100ml of snowfoam and either 300ml or 400ml of hot water...depends how dirty the car is, the key is to get the water as hot as you can, I find this gives best results! 👍🏻

    Snow foam is just used as an agitation. That snow foam lance is probably the cheapest you can get. For a really good one you’ve got to spend around £40.00. Ask your detailer what he uses and he will give you some really good tips. One thing I will say though mate, is if you want to keep that paint scratch free, use the two bucket method. It will stop swirls and scratches. 👍🏼

    Hi Martin, The St is looking great. I'm having mine valeted today.👍. Regarding the interior mirror camera you are going to fit. I looked at these, but the thing i didn't like is that u would lose the factory Auto dimming feature of the interior mirror. So i have fitted a Kenwood head unit, with reverse camera. And fitted a Next Base dash cam that records fnt and rear. Also regarding the handbrake. Common on these. I have replaced both rear calipers and both cables on mine.

    To make it thicker you'll need another snowfoam cannon from ebay Kracher compatible. They're about £10/15. The end of the cannon also has an adjustable end as well as that knob you adjusted water to foam mix. The snowfoam you have is good, from memory it may be 100ml of foam to 900ml water. You'll get the foam to dwell longer thicker.

    Hey martin hope ur well. I use Halfords own snow and it does say mix but i put it straight and let the machine mix it giving me a fairly decent density to my foam. As to is it making any difference then maybe it does make it easier by loosening things of but im pretty sure a pre soak then standard mitt wash would have the same result and it's the kid in me that just enjoys using snow foam

    Martin you can connect a reverse camera to your head unit. You can also get dash cams that connect to it too, giving you the same options as the rear view mirror one.
    Personally I have found the rear view mirror ones very poor. I look forward to seeing the video and what you think of it.
    I now use a Next base one after mine failing to record during an accident.

    The snow foam lance for the Karcher is pants. The foam should cling to the car for about 10 mins and that time gives the foam a chance to lift all the crap off. Invest in a decent lance, it will make a huge difference. BTW, that's a very sweet car. Loved the music as well. You might want to check out a couple of the many detailing channels - they do have a lot of good tips to make things easier when cleaning a car.

    I feel your pain with the curb rash. My ST220 has gloss black alloys and I dread getting too close to curbs. But to help guard against curbing then I have tyres with built in rim protectors. It might be something worth considering when you next need new tyres. Mine are Dunlop Sportmax RT2 which were reasonably priced and seem pretty good. Ps. Bilt Hamber is my favourite snow foam as also recommended by others. 👍

    The reason the snow foam is not as thick is due to the water flow ratio. On Karcher K2 or equivalent pressure washers or if your water pressure is low you going to need a better Lance. I have a K2 pressure washer with average water pressure and my Karcher Lance did the same thing. I bought a Autobrite foam Lance which allows you narrow the spray pattern causing higher pressure and I get super thick snow foam

      If you're having to use the foam neat then there's something wrong. You should only need 200ml of product to 800ml of warm water to get thick foam. Tbh both the demon foam and lance are about as bad as they get. Trust me when I say you'd get 10x thicker foam if you bought a better lance/ foam.

    Hiya mate I have a viking 248 with a ecv200 engine on it I got it running well cleaned the carburettor on it but I couldn't get the emulsion tube out every now and again hunts but most of the time it doesn't and its literally 2 or 3 seconds of Hunting then it goes away for away for a long time any tips

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  3 года назад +1

      does it hunt at low speed or high speed. If low speed, the pilot jet will need possibly opening up a little, if high speed, the emulsion tube may be blocked starving the engine at full running speed.

      WASHING UP LIQUID. ARE YOU MAD? Washing up liquid isn't suitable for car bodywork as its strips and protection any waxes. You need a proper car shampoo.
