little tip from experience periodically its worth checking the little cable between the bonnet key lock and the bonnet catch as the bit that connects to the latch is plastic and mine broke then had to rip the front of the car to bits , they can be replaced very cheap and worth doing :) great vid as always
Nice one , glad its not just me that gets in a pickle under cars with under trays and oil catcher, one tip I always do is to fill the oil filter with fresh oil as far as you can to help the oil pressure come up as quick as possible, not easy when the filter is on an angle like that but I feel every little helps. One day they migth make a vehicle with the filter in a sensible place, the dam Vectra is rigth down the back of the engine and its horrible to get to.
I'm tempted to spend the service money on a jack and axle stands now and do it myself 👍 Would be able to access the alternator too, it's whining like a... Inspiring videos hope you stick at it, didn't realize this was a service video happy days!
Martin, you could punch a hole in the bottom edge of the oil filter and allow the oil to drain out before removing it. Since the old oil filter is going to be discarded anyways, no harm. Just an idea to maybe keep the oil from going everywhere. Mice are ingenious little creatures and can squeeze through some very small openings. I realize they can carry diseases, but I would re-local them to some livable safe area, instead of killing them. JMHO
As i didn't have an oil filter chain wrench i had to drill a hole then stick a screwdriver in it to undo it. I've used Hammerite on my back axle. Still looks good after 2 years.
I miss my old mk3 2.0 petrol ghia x. it was a 55 plate and was the same colour as project man's car. my brother had it and was written off when some geezer in a range rover went straight in the back of it! that p*ssed me off as I'd spent a small fortune on it. I have a mk4 petrol in zetec trim which drives amazing. it's just passed 160,000 miles, it had a new luk clutch kit fitted at 117k and a new intake manifold, also an alternator clutch pulley, new suspension, drive shafts, wheel bearings and disc's and pads and a new auxiliary belt kit. I look after my cars!
Great video Martin. The only bit I hate about servicing is the under tray. My one goes back half way down the car. As I never have any help when I put it back, I usually use a trolley jack to hold it in roughly the right position to get the screws back in. Take care, Jeff
Made that comment before I saw where the oil filter was. I guess there is no way round it on the Mk3. My Mondeo was a Mk4 and the oil filter was accessible from the top.
Evening mate Great video, I’ve got my old classic out the garage this week and taxed it for 6 months that was £198 ‘ for the year £340 lol and £1.55 for petrol and mine does around 22 mpg , no wonder I gave up drinking can’t afford to do both, have a good week all of you . Ps I’m setting up the Gary gang like on only falls as you are all nasty to him ,, poor boy 👦
Does your oil pump work on the car? Could use to suck up the container oil wipe out after words. I figured if it did be a whole lot less messy. Our old ski boat we used the dip stick tube had an adapter we pressure up the tank sucked the oil out. Same concept wander if your white oil pump container would work??
I tried this idea before on vehicles. It's not that successful overall. Some work well some not at all well. You are usually better off draining the oil as Martin did in this video.
Martin I've got a mk4 Mondeo 2.0 tdci I had a coolant blow I've replaced it refilled the coolant and tried my best to bleed it but it's getting hot no signs of head gasket fan kicks in like it should any tips what to check I'm at a loose I'm having a terrible week cars broke on me and the fuel pump on my transit has packed up and been quoted £800 to do it I'm getting my push bike out again
Put your heater on hot setting and its filled up to the mark in the expansion tank. Run the car till it warms up and locate the hose coming out of the thermostat housing and if the thermostat is opening, that hose should get hot when the stat opens. If it doesn't, the stat may not be working causing the car to overheat.
Smart move treating the underside Martin, saves a lot of welding later. Your ST is one lucky car having an owner that cares. Top draw as always.
Thanks 👍
Nice big garden you have there Martin, always handy for all your projects
Thanks 4 sharing Martin, always a pleasure to watch.
Thanks 👍
your Mondeo is in brilliant condition, it looks really well
Thank you so much 😁

Yes, i've had that problem on previous Mondeo's I've had.
I had this exact problem too, real pain!
Enjoy watching your channel Martin. Educational and entertaining thank you.
Many thanks
Nice one Martin.
I hate undertrays, mine takes longer to take off & back on than it does to change the oil & filter!
I leave them off ….they are a nuisance
A lot of people do.
Undertrays are a pain in the butt
Takes longer to get those off then it does to change the oil !
Decent video Martin, a step by step mini service as most people wouldn’t know how to do this and would go to a garage and pay £150 -£250
Another great job Martin 👍👍👍👍
Thank you Martin for sharing your wonderful videos videos I am watching from South Africa
martin the st sounds great with that exhaust
nice looking motor
Cheers Dave
‘Now hopefully I should be able to do this without any hassle’ - story of owning a 220 I think!! Another great video thank you 👏
Glad you have solved the problem mate keep up the good work

Them oil filter chain tools are the devil's work
Love watching all the content you put out martin, I love the family banter between you all, reminds me of my family. Lol

Love the vids, love you lot and love my blue st220.
Great job, I’m glad I don’t have an oil and filter to change in my car any more,, it’s a dirty smelly job, the hammerite is a good tip.
Thanks 👍
great video great content and great your back to being happy and great family.....
Thanks so much!
Nice one Martin
My mate works for Rentokil Mart, he says anywhere you can push a biro through a mouse can get through the same size hole
Gary’s Scrapper Martin, turned out a good un, well done you two.
My grandad taught me to hold the dipstick as it comes out the engine downwards as to not get a false reading ie oil running up the dipstick.
on oil dipstick, the difference between the 2 marks, is generally 1 litre,
Yes, that's right.
Another great video Martin a job well Done
Thanks William.👍
Great vid again mate, I watched Garys last video and wondered what you were doing to the ST in the background haha

Thanks Tim, yes I was👍

The screws don't like to come out either Jeff, a right pain of a job. Many people leave them off because if how difficult they are to put back on.
great vid martin
Great channel & content lad 👍🔥👍
Thanks bud
I love nice clean oil Martin! 👍
So do I lol
Made that comment before I saw where the oil filter was. I guess there is no way round it on the Mk3. My Mondeo was a Mk4 and the oil filter was accessible from the top.
Nice one can cary on driving knowing that's been done.👍
Absolutely
great video mate 👍
Thanks 👍
Brilliant video as always 🤗🤗🤗

another cracking vid martin
Well done bud saved yourself a few quid there 👍
Yea the wire coating is food based which mice 🐁 chew on. Very small holes 🕳 they can access if not they make one. It just your car is convenient home.
While watching you under that car I couldn't help but think, what that man needs is a lift to get that thing up in the air.
The follow up to Snakes On A Plane. Mice In A Mondeo.
I watched the head of youtube do this yesterday.
Nice one Martin I miss my st220s I did find the front subfrsmes do suffer from rot I use to paint mine peace of mind...
Yes John, I will do it properly when I have more time.
@@retrorestore dont let Gary paint it he will end up painting the windows lol
Cracking one Martin. I'm looking at oil pumps to pump the oil out. What are your thoughts on them buddy 👍🏻👍🏻
I do have one but I like to look at the sump bolt to check for iron filings in the oil.
That wouldn't remove the oil out of the filter bud.
I tried this idea before on vehicles. It's not that successful overall. Some work well some not at all well. You are usually better off draining the oil as Martin did in this video.
And I bet you thought that filter wrench was a good idea when you first got it. Live and learn!
I've had it 30 years.
mice don't like moth balls
Can I just ask about the Hammerite please, did you rust treat the metal prior to painting or just wire brush then paint? Thank you.
With Hammerite, you can apply it directly over rust. It was just a quick fix till I do it properly and treat it with Vactan first.
@@retrorestore I see. I have something similar to do, so getting a few pointers. Thank you.
My aircraft had mice in it they were sleeping on the aircraft cover.
👍👍

I live in Ohio USA --- is a mondeo the same as a ford focus ??They look the same
Yes, I think they are.
Not impressed with your vacuum cleaner. It seems to lack suction
Groundhog Day................only some of you will get this..
It’s a bit
A bit what ?
