In we have a 2018 Ford Transit EcoBlue for hard-start when cold. Customer states that he will either have to crank the vehicle for a very long time or give it a boost using EZ-Start.
Diagnosing diesel hard-start USUALLY means that there is a problem with the fuel system but... which part of the fuel system? Let's go and find out!

for combustion you need air fuel spark compression and the timing to be correct I knew straight away long crank meant it's not getting fuel pressure but of course with a diesel you don't need spark for combustion another great video Michael ❤
I know I have forgotten to connect/ tighten something in past. It is easy to do when you have to stop for any reason, like the rain and when you continue you think you tightened before moving on to the next step. But at least you caught it before cranking fuel everywhere. nice one !
Oh mate. So many variables when you’re mobile that you start to forget the next step. Yeah, I’d consider myself lucky for this one 😂

2017 Merc sprinter, for a full service, drained oil removed all filters, had the fuel filter out aswell (usually clamp the pipes with the plastic pliers, this time I didn't)
Decided I wanted to check the lights all round, turned the ignition on, walked around the van and came back to a pool of diesel 😂😂😂

Rushing to fix a handbrake cable on a Corsa C before work. Didn't tighten the hub nut. Wheel come off about a minute after I left work to come home. Dragged it on 3 wheels to a parking space, threw the wheel in the boot and got a lift home. Luckily bought a used hub for £10 out of a breakers and threw it on, no major damage to anything bar my pride 😂

@@themarvelousvlog fortunately it happened at about 20mph the wheel over took me bouncing away till it hit a pole 😂 scariest bit was being a drum hub the brakes did naff all. Luckily it literally ground to halt and the parking space was maybe 15 feet away 😅
Great vlog as always, I have a transit connect and use blue print parts which I find very good quality and I also make sure the fuel filter is renewed every year after the housing cleaned out and a small amount of injector cleaner with diesel put in to try to avoid any air, kind regards to you and everyone out there, Mark from Billericay 😃👍

With regards to fuel filters on ford's, I got told by a specialist diesel pump and injector testing shop, to only use genuine filter as they're they only ons that filter down to a certain micron level, which in turn protect the pump from swarf from injector breakdown. Just a thought.

My biggest mistake - Changed a clutch on an old Ford, took it for a test drive and..... gearbox seized! I forgot to refill the gearbox with oil!

Back in the 70s on a Rover 2000 I put the rear pads in round the wrong way. Metal to metal 😮 To be fair they were inboard and tricky to get to. Needless to say I didn’t do it again.
Mine was leaving that ratchet on the main crank bolt of a ford, started the engine and it undone the bolt, was only in for an ancillary belt and I still managed to write it off, I gave that customer a new car hes been very loyal since, I think hes hoping for another new car 😂

My biggest mistake. I was 15yo and rebuilding my first motorcycle and after I had the engine back together and in the bike I used my hand on the Kickstarter and I heard tick tick tick tick. I stopped and thought and yes I put the piston 180 out and the valve was touching the piston. Also looking back I should have replaced the valve but I was young and impatient. I pulled it apart again and turned the piston.
Did an oil change on my focus recently, forgot to connect the MAFS to the air box, when I started it, it caused a check engine light to come up.
Took a split second to realise what caused it.
It's the simple thing's we often miss.

Happened to me before mate. It’s quite easy to forget. I now torque it down just to set myself a physical reminder that I’ve tightened it 😂

Biggest mistake was in old job was in work customer comes in on busy day (rental place) oil light on - put 1L of oil in. What he didn’t tell me was he’d just done that twice (and overfilled it). The 1L tipped it over the edge and nearly brand new Audi a3 s line tfsi went boom duh duh duh😅to be fair this was before I ever started working on cars seriously and not just my own, and think with the customer having limited English could have “happened to anyone”😂😂

Hi great video i am afraid we are all not perfect we do forget to do things sometimes i wish you could service my car main dealer a health check oil filter oil change and sump washer £289 i waited for the car to be done it was all done in an hour and a half.
Blue print was the OEM matching for Japanese cars we used back in the late 70s early 80s were great quality for the price

I have made a few errors in my life, once forgot to tight the tension after fit new timing belt wrecked my Punto JTD engine put a new spring coil on strut then released coil compression clamps and forgot to include a bump stop rubber in! I had to do it again. Everyone makes errors nothing to worry about.
That JTD engine must’ve been a painful one

minor stuff in comparison, but I removed the glove compartment to replace defective airco fan blower resistor in my Polo, got the new part in (awkward position with near 0 space), all sound deadening foam back in position, put everything together but realised I forgot the hose which puts cold air into the glove compartment (to cool cans of drink in there), so whole glovebox has to be hauled out again and the hose refitted..
Nice work mate. My biggest mistake was lowering the car after replacing shocks but not removing my trolley jack. Go to test drive it and almost run over my jack.
My biggest mistake was NOT lowering the jack and going for a drive 😂. Luckily the car did not sustain any damage as the car was higher than the jack when it’s on its side 🤣

The service interval for the timing belt, tensioner and idlers has been reduced to six years or 160,000km (100,000 miles)
Even those numbers are too long in my opinion…

Did timing belt on a peugeot 2008 couldnt figure out why it wasnt starting hadnt plugged the crank sensor back in it happens

had the injectors out one of these and didnt push one of the return pipes on properly went out as a spare van and the worker woke up to a puddle of fuel on his drive and trailing up his road 🫢🤣

Thank for reminding me that i still need to change my fuel filter on my car. The worst and annoying mistake i done was with my insignia when i had to do the cylinder head i took the injectors off, changed the head gasket, put everything together, then found out i forgot to put the injector seal rings on so had to remove the injectors again and at the same time forgot to connect a connector to the throttle sensor i think it was. I dont remember the code i got but i almost ended up buying new sensors lol.
I wont make that mistake again.

Ive done a full head gasket and never changed the valve seals, managed to put new seals in by bringing 2 cylinders at a time (1 and 4 then 2 and 3) to TDC and home made a valve spring compressor. What a pain in the ar*e that was but easier then strip the head off again. Now stop crying about forgetting to tighten the fuel lines up 🤣🤣🤣

There is not much point measuring the fuel pressure when the engine is running, if the fuel pump is mechanical, for this fault. The reason is the fuel pump speed is a lot less when cranking, the ecu wont fire the injectors if the fuel presser is low because the fuel will not be able to overcome the compression in the cylinders. What things could contribute to a low fuel pressure when cranking? Obviously go through the service items, confirm the pressure sensors are providing accurate data, check starter motor efficiency, check battery efficiency. If the crank speed (fuel pump speed) is low the fuel pressure will be low when the engine is running the fuel pump is at full speed and delivering good pressure.
Experienced mechanic = many mistakes made and wont do them again.

My funniest mistake was started a service at 5 hoping too get it all ready and on the floor for 5:45 then home for 6 pretty manageable, me as an apprentice was double checking everything anyways not this time 😂👌🏻, I left the sump plug on the bench while oil draining, and finished off the rest of the checks and fuel filter blah blah, lowered the car down and filled it up with premium shell oil as the customer asked 🤣 didn’t put the sump plug back in and all 5.5 liters went on the floor before I even noticed a thing 🤣🤣🤣 someone should of been watching the apprentice is my excuse 😏🤣
And 6 years later, working in the wheel refurb side of things one of the lads I was working with lowered down a E class merc axle stands but he lowered it on both the front steering rods instead of lowering it into the bottom control arm (they don’t bend)🤣🤦🏻♂️ the customer turned out of the yard and Instanly stopped the car and said something is wrong the car doesn’t turn now 🤣 we all look confused, we go to test drive the car and it’s pretty much un drivable🤣 soon as I took the wheel off the steering rods instead was in the shape of a U 🤣👌🏻 class
