Just the content I wanted. I have the 180-600 using on my Z50 but I need more.... The Z8 is too expensive. The ZF looks great, but I have big hands and will need the grip. Thanks for posting. Regards from Australia.

This cameras features versus its much more costly stablemates and other competitors can be argued about for ever but what can't not be denied is that its lower cost lets the buyer get more gear to round out his/her kit. If you have gotten use to the form of dlsr cameras that have been loaded up with buttons and features to compete in a saturated market you will likely complain about ergos and lack of certain buttons. I feel the simplicity of controls makes it easier to become effective with this tool. You can get use to the ZF in short order. A birder who goes to the field with a ZF is no less of a photographer than some one with a Z9, he/she could be the photographer that has separated out his wants from his needs.

Good informative observations, thanks for the info! Agreed, IMO the biggest missing pieces for wildlife / action (aside from modern ergos) are 1 - at least one more function button (although we have Fn1 / Fn2 on a few Z lenses) and 2 - Recall Shooting Functions (Z8/9). The latter being an absolute game-changer in terms of shooting fast action.
That aside, knowing that the retro-styled Zf can actually manage well in this very demanding genre, is still very impressive! It really is an amazing all-arounder.

Thankyou so much with the Zf camera content you have been posting recently. I just bought the Nikon Zf with 70 200 f2.8 myself and been trying to capture photos. Honestly I'm unable to understand which Auto focus area mode and Focus mode you have used to acheive the brillant focus on the birds eye. I tried to understand this and searched for any video which can explain, but din't find any. I request you to please emphasise on this topic by making a whole new video with practical field explanation of all the focus modes with Nikon Zf camera on how to select the modes to get the best results.
Thankyou for your time and content.

Definitely check out Steve Perry's channel, he goes into great detail on how to set up Z cameras for birding / wildlife. Many people prefer the hand-off approach - starting out in the largest C1 / C2 custom box, with bird / animal subject detection on. Once the camera acquires the target (eye or head, for example), you then switch over to 3D Tracking via a customized button. I set up the AF-ON button to initiate 3D Tracking + AF-ON, some others prefer Fn1 or Fn2, or a lens Fn button.

I never had a doubt that the Z f can do wildlife. The question is, how long can you shoot with that setup before tiring when compared to a Z9 or a Z8? I think this is mostly what people mean when they ponder on whether the Z f is suitable for wildlife.

I've been birding with the Zfc quite a bit lately. The lens becomes how you handle it. I have Peak Design clip that I clip the lens to on my backpack so I don't have to hold it all the time. The only issue I found is sometimes my thumb gets confused between the comp and command dial with gloves on and the batt is small when driving the bigger lenses.

The Nikon Z8 is also better than the ZF, but, unfortunately, it couldn't be used here as it was being used as a vlogging camera, the Canon R3 and the Sony A9iii are also better than the Zf, but unfortunately, they were being used here for B roll.

Nice to see the ZF capabilities but the lack of function buttons to change focus areas, metering mode & ISO simultaneously is a real issue for Zfc & Zf.
Can you please do the same thing with the Z50+180-600mm ? I think it will do good with Dynamic Area & Wide Area Small.
Most of the wildlife videos on youtube about Z50 is with an FTZ adapter even version 1. So it hampered the autofocus a lot.
An APSC 2nd body is very much a need. Because a 2nd FF body becomes expensive & Nikon will most probably bring out the Z6iii next at around 1.9L just under the A7iv.
Canon have their R7/R10, Sony A6600/6700/6400/6100.
I am planning to buy an APSC body as a backup to Z8 for a 70-200 f2.8. But it has to handle Action scenes like a cheetah hunt or a leopard jumping down from a tree with atleast Dynamic Area AF like in DSLRs. I don't need the tracking like Z8 as it would be expensive.
    My current choices are Sony A6700+ Sigma 70-200 f2.8 & Nikon Z50+Z 70-200 f2.8.
I am worried about the focus accuracy of the Z50 even with dynamic area & wide area small.
    Thank You 🙏🏽
Hope you reach 10k subscribers even by mid 2024.

    • @FramesTM
      @FramesTM  2 месяца назад +1

Go for the 180 to 600. It’s just 1.3. Then wait for the Z6iii. It will be about 2. Z8 is 3.2. Sell off the 200-500 for 50k minimum. So Z6III+180to600 will be: 2+1.3+.10(for cards)-.50= 2.9lakhs. Z8 is 3.2 lakhs.

Keep in mind the Z f, like the Z 8 only supports animal detection unlike the Z 9 that has a specific bird mode.
What this means is if the deep learning was say trained on 1000 animals photos, birds might only make up 10% of that learning. The Z 9 if 1000 images were used to train bird detection should do a lot better. The Z 8 scans the sensor 120 times per second and does AF calculations at that rate. The Z f is unspecified, but it’s not a stacked sensor so it can’t be as fast. However, it’s certainly good enough. If you want the best bird AF it’s got to be a Z 9.
Now as for a general wildlife camera goes, wildlife is less challenging than birding.
