- My first overnight camp in the new van. I start a 4 day landscape photography roadtrip in my Mitsubishi Delica. I drive south to north in search of subjects to photograph, peaceful park-ups and the open road. My first port of call is Somerset.

Tom with that haircut(or lack of one) you just need to get a dog and paint "Mystery Machine" on the side and you will be good to go! Nice to see you out enjoying your new setup.
Ruh Roh
I was also thinking ‘Shaggy & Scooby’.....😘🌈📸
Someone round my way has their van painted as the “Mystery Machine”.
Thought the tree images were great and as a retired firefighter, I was pleased to see you purchase a dry powder extinguisher after witnessing the alcohol burner escapade previously. Seeing you back out there on the road conveyed a feeling a freedom and delighted to see you on the road again Thomas. Hopefully here in Scotland our freedoms will be restored soon
Hey Scotty, I got a watermist extinguisher for my camper. Do you approve?
I live less than 30 miles from that location, and I can't believe I've never seen those trees! Even though I've been to Porlock Weir many, many times. Thank you for making the effort to travel so far from home to open my eyes to what's on my doorstep. I WILL be going there very soon.
Do I have multiple assignments due tonight? Yes. Will I drop everything to watch a new Thomas Heaton video? Absolutely!
You've done it wrong.. I watched the video and pretend that I'm working :D
This van guy seems to be pretty good at taking pictures. He may consider pursuing photography as a career
It's so nice to see you this excited and camping again. Also the square picture from the tree is phenomenal!
Is it my imagination or is Thomas showing more of his fun personality?
That's the only explanation I can come up with, for his pronunciation of Gloucestershire 😉
I feel he is going the road of every RUclipsr: I don't see it as much as a fun personality as a fake personality. Would have loved to see the photos from the morning too instead of hearing him talk about his comfortable cushions for ten minutes. But oh well, this is the RUclips way: less content, more self-representation.
@@mapakern3979 you must be the life of the party
@@mapakern3979 It was his first trip away in a van that he did an amazing job of, it was always going to be more about the van and whether or not it works, I'm sure future ones will be more about the photography. I didn't see fake, I saw a guy enjoying the results of his creation and sharing it with us.
@@justkerry173 I get that it might be more about the van, and this would be fine by me (even though I'm here for the photos and I thought, after having skipped the van build epic of more than an hour of screentime it would be over). What's bothersome is his talking style that changed compared to older videos. See for example around the 6:50 mark, when he announces the first image: I sense some kind of grandiosity in his pronunciation, tip toeing on every syllable. It's something I observed on several anglophone channels: after a while where the filmmakers concentrated on their content, they build a fake camera personality that comes with this exact diction.
For the other commenter: That doesn't mean that I hate Thomas Heaton. On the contrary, I love his approach to photography and I think his channel is one of the better. But I think I still have the right to point out downsides of his presentation style. I don't see why you feel the need for this ad personam statement. FYI I'm not the life of the party, there are no parties anymore, but you're right: I have never been.
Can I just say this is one of the best videos you have done...my wife and I love watching your stories...me from a photography aspect...my wife just enjoys the channel. We both said it was awesome to see some more humour and see you looking so relaxed. Keep doing what you do. Kudos Thomas Heston
England got a hell of a beautiful landscapes ❤️ from India
"sells everything at terrible quality" here in the U.S. we call that place Walmart lol
Those animal sounds are killing me :D
Cant belive some guy went to the effort of sending an email telling you what to do 😂 found this channel like 5 hours ago and now I'm on the binge train and I love it... stay safe mate!
You are in for a treat!
Wow, you have a lot to get through! Having followed Thomas since the beginning, I know there are just mountains of great content here (often literally!)
It’s going to be an absolutely stunning experience!
These comments say alot about this guys community, its refreshing!
How are you getting on, Shep? Avoid mid 2017, and you can skip anything posted in July/August. Those are always my worst months. Also, January is usually a bit of a downer too 👍 Namibia is my best work 🙂
Wow.. So nice to see you buzzing at finally out shooting in the new van.. I found your channel because of the first lockdown here in ireland and have watched every vlog since... Massive influence on my own photography and enjoying the adventure we are sharing with you... I did the same with bengal matches as a kid.. Way better than normal matches and gave off a red explosion.. As for taking down the last video...brilliant lol.. Would recommend hard hats high viz safety boots hasmat suit for next vlog out in the field... Thanks Tomas i feel uplifted myself now... Hopefully we can get out of our lockdown soon too and feel that good.
That is what I love to hear from a fellow campervan user - someone who leaves a place as if they had never been there. Those who deposit their rubbish, grey water, and worse their black waste - give those of us who treat the areas we visit with careful consideration a bad name. People remember the idiots, and those who selfishly do not think through their actions.
I have fully enjoyed your build videos, and seeing it out in the wild. Epic job Thomas.
I loved both of the photos of the trees, just so well composed. The van looks great too. A real mood lift of a video, you must be feeling like a kid at Christmas to be getting out on a trip, thanks very much for another great video.
Was looking at the clock and thinking, will Thomas post his first roadtrip today or not? Great way to finish the day today. Thank you :)
I just found you tonight and I have watched 5 of your shows so far. You are a true joy. I’m hooked. I have been in bed for 3 months with a broken neck, so I have more hours on RUclips than I ever thought possible. So I believe I have earned a doctorate degree in or as a RUclips critique. With my well earned degree it is my high opinion that none of your shows are to long. I love your sweet funny honesty . I started watching because of the van build. Brilliant job!! Then found out you are an artist. I am looking forward to seeing your photography. Your wife is a lucky blessed lady. I just bet she is just as delightful as you are. Thank you for the joy and smiles. 🥸
Fantastic B roll at the start with the drone crossing over the road as you drive underneath
Love the sound effects! (photography isn't bad either.)
Awesome format !! 50% photography, 50% vanlife, love it
Wolves howling in the background - a nice touch.
Jokes aside, Gloucestershire services is one of the nicest service stations going
I was about to post the same 🙂
@@thegreatestlight1 hahaha same here, great minds!
Agree! The shopping is better than Waitrose
Unfortunately there are idiots everywhere, it's hard to escape them, Thomas. you can only set a good example yourself and hope.
Far too many of them, and it appears that they are breeding faster than the rest of us.
Should of knocked on the door and said “do you realise you have a leak?”
It’s why so many nice areas now have ‘No Motorhome’ signs. The idiots spoil it for everybody else.
The trick with the sleeping bag is to NOT roll it first.
Just start jamming the bugger in there. It will still compress fine, maybe even a bit better than it was rolled.
My son was in Scouts, he was 12. He had to show me how put away my sleeping bag.
I love those trees. I would have spent all my time and focus on them.
But that's why I'm an amateur , and you are a professional.
Love the van.I would love to do something like that.
to add to this: just jamming your sleeping bag in there is actually better from a durability standpoint as well. because you don't keep folding it at the same spots over and over, it'll last longer. as long as you give it room to breathe when you get back home of course :)
Really enjoyed this. Glad it was so long. 👍👍👍👍👍👍 loved the howling wolf. 😱😱😱😱
In the summer I hang shower curtains from magnetic hooks on the tailgate of my Delica & use a rechargeable shower to have a wash, gives you
an extra room. Loving the build, looking forward to seeing more.
My wife who does not see the attraction of minimalist photos liked your single tree shot quite a bit. Said it was the light that made it for her. Nice. And liked how you mentioned framing the shot with that little depression in the background right behind the tree. helps remind me to to slow the heck down and really look. thanks have loved your van stuff it's like a puzzle being assembled.
So glad you could make a trip in your new van. Must be a great feeling to actually be out using it after all that fine work and time you put into making it ready and right for you. Really nice.
Good to see a new start with the new camping van and back to photography
Thomas, I'm so impressed with your van conversion! Can't wait to see your photography adventures in the van. Keep up the good work 🙂
Six seconds in, and I already have a smile on my face. Your videos are wonderful; they make me want to get out and shoot. Thanks for all the work you put into them.
Great to see you out and about Tom. Blog was great as usual and that square crop of that tree was in my opinion ‘absolutely stunning’ And would seriously consider purchasing a print 👍
Beautiful composition of the two trees. Can’t wait to see more tales of the adventure van.
The pictures are gorgeous. I was so taken back. My goodness. Light is everything.!
Can't remember seeing you so hyped since God knows when Thomas. Good on you, looking forward to the next one!
Looking forward to watching this one!
We live full time in our Sprinter Van. I can tell In This video you are going through that awkward period of working through the cobwebs of your routine. It takes a good week before you get your VanLife finesse down and really begin to enjoy it. One Suggestion is for cross ventilation (air in/ air out). You will likely need a fan for forced exhaust with the open window to keep up with the condensation build up that only open windows will not accomplish. Looking forward to seeing how it works out. Enjoy VanLife ! Loved those shots.
Such a good video Tom and those images were superb! I really look forward them coming out so thanks for putting in the hard work to produce them. Safe travels
Laughed out loud several times, so good to see a twinkle in yer eyes!
The long spoon is back ! That's a good sign of an adventure ! What a great wildlife around your van, but very noisy.
That's good to see you back on the road, full of energy. Love the square shot.
Love the wind bent tree just before your carpark rant, of which I agree with you!👍😜
I have not watched all of the vid yet I'm about half way through but I just wanted to say that is lovely to see you with a spring in your step again Tom. So let's have a good year bud and get me motivated to get out shoot again please 🙏
Straight out the gate and Tom's bouncing all over the place:) Guess summer is on the way. Great to see you doing what you love, and thanks for taking us for the ride.
Out and about in the new van oh and excellent photos too. The video is as long as it has to be to inform and educate and fun too . keep it up
I like seeing a giddy Thomas Heaton. Like the old days. 😉 Good to see you out again. I always like the minimalist shots. Cheers!!!! Good and fun video! Romantic lights...haha. Really enjoyed this video! The animal sounds are funny....😁
Nice to see that you are finally getting some use from the van. Hope you have happy travels.
That was extremely fun to watch. Thanks for taking us along with all the details included. Love it!
What a hoot. first timer and thoroughly enjoyable. And photo content a super bonus as well.
Loved this video!! This is one of our favourite locations and we were there last July and were also lucky enough to have the high (10m) tides for the sunset. So enjoyed watching you enjoying it too! Looking forward to next weeks and hoping you got lucky with your sunrise. 😀
Thomas, it is nice to see that you can overnight in your new van. The salt flats look like an interesting location. Stunning abstract composition of the tree being used as a frame for the other tree. Thank you for sharing, and I look forward to next week's video. Peace and Safe Travels.
That sleeping bag is bigger than mine 😂😂! Love the setup and seeing your first night in the new photography wagon!
Please buy a new car buddy 😅😅
@Andre Guillermo and you to? fo!
Simply loved it. Great to see you so happy and relaxed loved the images and van.
This man living the life I dream of. Keep killin' it Thomas!!!
You know, for a van builder, you take pretty good photos! 😜
I am having a van built that should be ready in the next couple of weeks. (Not so handy as you Tom!). A Promaster Hightop. I plan to use it to expand my photographical opportunities. I have loved seeing your build & admire in your ingenuity. Love seeing how you made the panels covered with fabric & how it all fits together so beautifully. Thank you for taking us on this journey.
Awesome video Thomas!! Keep it up! Always love watching these kinds of videos when you get to catch sunset and sunrise!
That petrified tree framed with the breach in the back really tells the whole story of that amazing place beautifully.
Loved watching the van build. Know exactly where you camped as me and my boys camped just up the road from you in a perfect little campsite in the valley a few years ago - great spot, no light pollution and no phone signal!
Look forward to the morning after video.
Excellent video. Liking the mix of photography and van life. Welcome to the best county in the country.
Fantastic images! Good to see you out and traveling again!
love these photos so much!!
@Thomas a massive tip, a sleeping bag should never be rolled up as it weakens the fibers in the same area every time. A STUFF sac is exactly what you should do. STUFF it in. When you are not using your SAC take it out and let it hang so the fibers have time to breath and the SAC will last a lot longer. TOP video. C
I'd say the new van is a success and finally on the road doing what you love. Loved the 2nd image with larger tree framing the one in the distance. The light was so good.
Good point you made about making images. Sometimes you put one up and everybody likes the photo, other times they don't it really is like a rollercoaster. Great work Thomas!
I love this episode! Good to see you finally taking your van for a spin, and clearly enjoying it :)
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like a van. Great location and photos! I'm looking forward to part 2.
Great Van overnight Road trip, The salt marsh was a great location and the tree awesome. thanks for sharing
that was great, nice photos, some laughs and NO minor fires, what's not to like? brilliant
What a minimalistic location! :D Fantastic photos Thom!
Great to see you exited about your photography and videos again. You can really tell when you're enjoying these videos. The van looks great and I loved both of those photographs! I hope to build out my own campervan for landscape photography soon. I've been looking at possibly using a Suzuki carry van as it would also function as my everyday car and don't want anything too big. You're van and photography provide amazing inspiration. Keep up the amazing work !
phenomenal editing work on this video, Thomas! And fantastic images as always, exquisite work all around!
Just a quick tip especially for shorter trips and with your super-duper power unit - change your cooker to electric and have the gel, gas as back up or longer trips. Another great video - keep it up
The images are great. Tom. I love minimalistic approaches as well. And your van looks spacious mate. Enjoy and have a tons of fun!
Great stuff Thomas! Thanks for sharing
Really enjoyed this video Tom watching you having a great time in your new toy and I have to say I was so impressed with your diy skills in building the interior and the solar panels. Loved the photos to shame the tide let you down look forward to the next one
Love it! I love the van too! Keen to hear how comfortable the bed was.
Awesome video! Thanks for opening up your photography life. I'm new into photography and your one of favorite photographers, seen ever one your videos over the past year and half. Thanks for being down to earth and open and may I say funny. Look forward to your video every week, all way in America. Lol God Bless
Great video and well worth watching till the end, look forward to the sun rise video!
Excellent as ever...like the very casual manner too camera thank you so much ciao
Good to see you out doing what you do best, looking forward to more of your videos 👍🍺
Hi Tom Ive been a subscriber for about 3 moths and I enjoy your vlogs so much, mixing your photography with your van conversion worked for me and was enjoyable to watch. The way you copped with the various lock downs also kept me going. Keep up the good work.
I enjoy the long ones like these!
Great to see you enjoying yourself again!
🇨🇦... DELIGHTED for you Thomas! It's nice seeing you happy about your van conversion! Cheers!!!
My van camper/conversion is nearly finished, plan on doing similar photography trips myself and so looking forward to it. Binge watching your videos and learning plenty of photography tips along the way...enjoy the trip 👍
I love the quarantine hair! You are starting to look like a lost member of the weasley familiy :D
(edit: also great video of course)
In goblet of fire only haha
Oh my goodness you’re right!
Absolutely stunning photos... I also now need a camper van in my life!
It's lovely to be on a virtual journey with you. This has been a wonderful video in which you shared so much.Thank you for sharing a story about yourself and photography. Cheers.
Look forward to this. Van looks mint 👌🏼
Looking forward to the next day's video!!! Thinking of getting my own weekend travel van.
What's up Thomas? I'm really glad to see you back! I watched you do the whole van build, and as I said before "you did a great job," and it shows in this video. Carry on my friend, carry on! Peace!!!!!
Enjoyable and funny - thanks for half an hour of escapism Thomas!
Interesting Vlog & good to see you out in the van after watching the build over last few months..
What a lovely video. Great stuff, Thomas!
Great to see you on the road again!
Been looking forward to your shakedown cruise in your new van. Looking good so far. The more you use it the more you will relax and refine your necessities and organization. All you need now is a small Jack Russel to fight with over primary ownership of the sleeping bag. I heard lots of farm dogs in the background. You might be mindful of them when you go outside at night. Stray dogs can be dangerous. We (dog and I) often had coyotes around the camp at night and I sometimes could hear them brushing up under the truck. I usually put a gas Coleman lantern on the ground behind the truck as a security light. I turned it down very low so it would light up the eyes of the 'yotes when I needed to get out of the truck. They would run away when I got out. Looking forward to more of your photography adventures now.
Your videos are incredibly relaxing to watch...almost meditation. Thanks mate
Enjoyable video. Glad to see you on the road.
Congratulations Thomas, I really, really, enjoyed this. And what a fabulous photo location you have found, all new to me. Health to Enjoy your Explorations in your brilliant van. So, so, envious...
Your campervan looks quite comfortable.
I like the tree photos, beautiful.
Looking forward to the next video. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
