Just started watching... The intro Thomas was brilliant. Well played on the acronym, actually laughed out loud. Will come back after seeing the rest of the video
Enjoyed that video. In regards to the comparison between Infrared and the Nikons B/W convert. My son said that the infrared looked like a picture at Christmas ( hes 6 lol). Its a place id like to visit myself but you are not the only one to say its a luck of the draw type place. Panos both look good, I prefer the colour version personally. Hows the Nikon doing?
Sooo don't get scammed by a TWAT. Good info. I actually feel for this on another channel when it first came out. Fortunately I figured out what was going on before it cost me any money. Thanks for the PSA on the TWAT's.
I like the infrared more, simply because in the regular BW the vegetation and the ground are too similar in grey value. With the IR you have that contrast an variation on the island.
Agree on that. In regular BW there's nothing striking in the image to caught our eyes attention, the island looks bare. But in IR, we get the texture details on the island, contrast against the dark clouds behind, easily getting our eyes to look straight at the island.
I have been watching your videos for six years! My high school had a photography class and I never stopped. When I worked too much to get out and shoot I would watch your videos to feel like I was still going out and taking pictures. When I did have the time to get out, I would find motivation in your videos. I finally ordered your calendar for the first time and I'm excited to have a signed print from the guy I've been virtually shooting with for years! I truly love these videos.
Wow !! St Kilda l was glued to this. What a camp spot, pristine. IR Mmm not sure, nice to see the detail of the land, and as you say a bit of a snow storm. Its artistic for sure, but l do love a bit of atmosphere so praps l prefer the natural photo. Hey what a choice 😁 l would have had a hard job leaving without a photo of the birds in the landscape. Thanks for the warning at the beginning, such a blow that you have this going on, youre not alone. Big thanks Thomas for taking us along, deffinately one of the best. Take care Alioban xx
I hope I can express myself well... I'm from Argentina. I started watching your videos recently. And every time I see them, my chest fills with emotion, because of the way you talk, the landscapes you photograph from a country I don't know, make me cry with joy. I really appreciate your work. Greetings from Buenos Aires
I've had an internet nightmare today, so this video is late. I have also taken the liberty of adding a pre-roll warning message about scam comments, so be aware & don't get scammed today. Finally. I forgot to plug my book in the video, so here is a link to my shop where you will find books & prints :) thomasheaton.co.uk/shop/ I hope you enjoy the video.
I love that inferred version of your first shot, the reason why is it just catches my eye more, there's more texture and boldness where the Nikon shot just looks flat and dull when you compare the island in both scenes. Great you done this even though it wasn't intentionally a compassion. now to watch the rest of the video that I am really enjoying.
I prefer the IR image of the island, the brightness on the grass draws my eye to the island which then draws the attention to the clouds against the darker sea.
Great video, that intro had me PMSL. I don't think I could have stomached that boat trip, it does seem like an awful lot of money, but a great experience none the less. For me definitely the IR image, for the same reasons you mentioned in the video.
Your vlogs are honestly better than any TV show. You have such talent in all fields: Photography, video, directing, visualization, sound, light, and so much more. I've been watching for 6 years and you have found your nitch and road along the way. Keep going because someday soon major publishing company is going to swallow this up. It will be a bittersweet moment for a lot of us but always happy to see success. Thank you!!
Great intro Thomas, straight out the Gavin Hardcastle school of intros. What a unique experience and grateful for you taking us along on your trip, the images were fabulous. The IR version was my favourite of the two due to the additional detail it was displaying and loved the final image too. Think I would have been spewing my breakkie back up based on the clips of the crossing.
IR The white looked like the best snowfall. It just grabs your attention and you look a little longer. This video was beautifully put together, great job Thomas I loved it.
Absolutely nailing it again, OMG! Lighter pockets but a full soul, what a place! Cracking video Tom! I think this is a better shout than going to the Faroes…
Awesome stuff Tom. We are indeed spoilt for choice in the UK for landscape photography and St Kilda has long been on my radar as a location to visit one day. But as you rightly point out, it's costly and risky.....so will that stop me going....well your video and photos has not demised my desire to go. :-)
The inclusion of the boat in the first photo makes it truly epic! You need it for scale, absolutely amazing photograph! Great video as always Mr. Heaton.
Thanks for sharing the location, you are inspiring and make me want to get out, camp, photo and sharing let's me know what is possible next time I'm in the UK!
Made the trip last year with the same company same boat same crossing conditions, just as well the seats air sprung. When we arrived at St.Kilda the fog/ mist had rolled in and we weren't allowed up the hill or to wander too far from the village. It spoiled the photography but not the experience, the fog enhanced the eerie feeling of the place and made me appreciate what the people who lived there went through. Glad I went and I hope that are to. The IR shots are fantastic by the way. 👍😎
Coming back to channel after...i dont know years of a break from YT as a whole. I remember watching you back in the day of hand held cams and Nisi filters. Glad to see you're still going strong.
One of your best mate. I am enjoining your recent optimism, It's mid winter in NZ which for me means rain and work. The infra red creates contrast definition and it seems to have given you a boost of positivity & creativity. We can all do with a bit of that!
Spent 6 days here just before you. Truly magical place and I was lucky enough to have some better weather. The history of the crofts and the indigenous population who left in 1930 is also amazing. You will just have to come back. I'm intending to at some point. BW
It is a busy place I'll grant you that, but living under a giant white softbox most of the time has it's advantages... when it's not raining, that is. The west side of Oregon up into Washington is like that as well, great light most all the time. 🙂
I do like an acronym! Well done you, for making your viewers & followers aware. I'm setting my heart on Skye for next year's camp. Keep up the good work.
The infrared obviously looks cool (like the island is snow-covered), but the other shoot looks better because the island isn’t competing with those amazing clouds.
I prefer the infrared of the island because it's different and more mysterious looking. You encouraged me to pick up an infrared camera last week and enjoying it. thanks
Thank you for the content, I enjoy this more than watching the telly!. The effort that goes into coming up with, planning, capturing, editing and publishing this kind of film...every week...is immense. the mental effort required to keep on top of it and remain as enthusiastic (without appearing fake) as you are, must be huge. Top Stuff.
Can completely relate to your boat journey over as same to what I had last year going over to Skellig Michael, Co Kerry, rough and scary as hell...oddly I enjoyed it🤔 Love your weekly vlogs especially this one.
The IR pano is my favourite of this trip, Thomas. Funny that last Sunday the team of Photography Online had a chapter about Marcus special photo of St. Kilda - he is coming back every year to get „his“ shot. Have a look …
That acronym during the PSA was brilliant. I like the IR photo. Even though it looks like a rock covered in bird poop, I feel it has more contrast, which make it more interesting to me. Cheers Tom!
just had the biggest hardest laugh I've had in a long time from that intro, was seeing it coming and thought "nah you wouldn't would you" and bust out laughing 😂
I flew out there many years ago from the military site on Benbecula. Father in law was the range officer there. Amazing place, also did a sail by in May on a cruise ship, the weathe was a tad wild on the way out and back!
The infrared shot to me is the more pleasing one, as I think the white of the grass draws you in to the subject even more. Rather than being the greyscale mass of the bnw shot. Loving all the infrared stuff so far
Thank you for taking us to the wild places where the majority of us average people may never have the privilege of going. Hounds of the Baskerville fog? When the first moon landing happened they interviewed some old guy in some state near Texas and he said he didn’t believe it it was just a TV show made in a studio and the earth is flat….. I saw the fog and thought he’s in a studio lol 😂 You are so privileged to shoot on location and we are so fortunate that you share in such a stellar way. Thank You 🙏
I only sighted the Acronym at the end of your introduction as I was so intent on listening (and subconsciously agreeing) to what you had to say, and then BAM!! it hit me, oh boy….it was priceless and creased me up so much I watched all the video again (as I often do). A true explorer, even tho’ at times it stretches the pocket somewhat you do it, in order to fulfil your desire for that all important shot. Personal preference for the first image has to be the black and white as I love moody (would look good in print), but the last shot in IR is superb. Thanks for the trip Tom.
St. Kilda has been a total bucket list destination for me since I read a book about the last inhabitants of the island over 40 years ago. That said, I know I would have failed to hold on to my breakfast on the boat trip, so I'll save up for the helicopter. 🙂
Thanks Tom, appreciate you making the investment to produce this video. Yet again you've made something totally different which is why your channel stands out from all others. I would love to do that trip but for the wildlife rather than Landscape (well ok, a bit of landscape)......
As a computer programmer, it stuns me a company as big as google / youtube cannot EASILY filter out these scam messages. You basically just wrote the business rules for a bit of code which would do just that! Well done Thomas, if you ever want a career in IT. Also you came up with a project name, Project TWAT, which is perfect.
Just started watching... The intro Thomas was brilliant.
Well played on the acronym, actually laughed out loud.
Will come back after seeing the rest of the video
Haha, that's good to know 👍
Enjoyed that video. In regards to the comparison between Infrared and the Nikons B/W convert. My son said that the infrared looked like a picture at Christmas ( hes 6 lol).

+1👍

This! 👆
I agree 100%
The intro was one of the best ever. The last shot was just wonderful
I have been watching your videos for six years! My high school had a photography class and I never stopped. Same here. Been watching since 2016. Can't get enough.
I’m a simple man. I see a new Heaton vid, I click.
And you like.
Love it.
Loved the disclaimer at the start. Preferred the IR shot - I think it was more impactful.
Wow !! St Kilda l was glued to this. What a camp spot, pristine. IR Mmm not sure, nice to see the detail of the land, and as you say a bit of a snow storm. I like the natural shot of the island. The infrared makes it look like there is snow on the island. I like seeing the reality of a scene.
One of your best, Tom.
Can only echo Barry's comment on the intro.....also laughed out loud!
It's a real pleasure to accompany you to those wonderful locations again and again. Thank you very much !!! :)
Absolutely loved the Public Service Announcement 😂 Nicely done. Great vid too 👍
I miss you putting the images at the end of the videos. I liked that!! 🙂
Man the IR conversion really made that trip for you, wonderful images those IR ones, very crispy!
Wow Tom... first you complain about the horrible misty conditions, next you create this classic masterpiece of photography.
OMG. Think that's the best acronym ever. I will totally remember TWAT as to not get scammed.
I am fascinated by St Kilda and its history and to see the island from a photographers eye has been an enjoyable experience.
Thomas Heaton at his best. I thoroughly enjoy these photo adventures.
Hands down the best anti-scammer message I've ever seen! Beautiful shots
I really like the infrared image, I love the contrast.
That opening was great informative and love the acronym
I prefer the IR image of the island, the brightness on the grass draws my eye to the island which then draws the attention to the clouds against the darker sea.
Great video, that intro had me PMSL. I don't think I could have stomached that boat trip, it does seem like an awful lot of money, but a great experience none the less. For me definitely the IR image, for the same reasons you mentioned in the video.
Ha ha! Best intro ever! Love the abbreviation
IR in the first photo was insane, I wasn’t expecting to like that 👌
The intro was hilarious, but also something that you will never forget and therefore you will not fall prey to the scammers.
Infrared one for me. The island is your subject and you have way more detail on it in the ir image vs visible light 😊👍🏻
I prefer the IR photo of the island, because the white foliage creates a nice contrast with the surrounding water and sky. Also, I love snow!
Loving this Video. Best photography adventure video so far Thomas.
1:30 🤣 well put!
You had all that stillness, quite remarkable and what a good summary at the finish.
Your vlogs are honestly better than any TV show. You have such talent in all fields: Photography, video, directing, visualization, sound, light, and so much more. thanks for another amazing video!
by the way, I like the infrared more!
Infrared…the grass looks like snow and that just adds to the chilling effect of the clouds.
Infrared 100% reason I love shooting that way as well as others have said there is more detail in the shot.
I prefer the infrared shot. The details are clearer and more exciting to look at. The clouds are more dramatically beautiful.
The Infared worked stunningly well!
That final shot...wow..she's a keeper.
IR The white looked like the best snowfall. It just grabs your attention and you look a little longer. This video was beautifully put together, great job Thomas I loved it.
Really digging that "snowy" pano. Another great vid.
You might not have got the best photos but you had the opportunity to go to such a wonderful location. It's about the experience not just photos.
The IR image is outstanding! It makes me think differently 'about' the image/scene.
The video is showing me that you haven't got to save the infrared for bright sunny days, both the Infrared shots I have seen so far are superb.
Absolutely nailing it again, OMG! Lighter pockets but a full soul, what a place! Cracking video Tom! I think this is a better shout than going to the Faroes…
The infrared is hauntingly beautiful.
The infrared makes the island look like a mini snow capped mountain.
The infrared shot of the island makes you appear even more badass as it looks like the island is snow capped and you are out there in the winter :-)
The ir pano was spectacular! Really shows that even on a grey day there are shots to be had.
I like the infrared picture because the is more contrast and more to discover. As you said, it raises questions. 😄
Great breakdown of how to watch out for TWATs.
Amazing Thomas, I’ve been waiting for this one after you mentioned the trip! 🙏🏻
I like the infrared shot best. To me the island looks snow capped and more interesting.
Awesome stuff Tom. We are indeed spoilt for choice in the UK for landscape photography and St Kilda has long been on my radar as a location to visit one day. The inclusion of the boat in the first photo makes it truly epic! You need it for scale, absolutely amazing photograph! Great video as always Mr. Heaton.
Yeah, I didn't realise how important that boat would be until I got home and imported my images 👍
Love the infrared island and clouds photo. I see more detail and contrast in the clouds.
Thanks for sharing the location, you are inspiring and make me want to get out, camp, photo and sharing let's me know what is possible next time I'm in the UK!

I tell you what, that last image was absolutely amazing. Expensive trip, a shame it is so expensive...still be great to go!!!
TWAT think I’ve got that. Nice and easy to remember thanks Tom for keeping us safe on the internet.
What a great mnemonic to guard against scammers.
What an amazing experience ! Worth every penny. The isolation is worth it (don't fancy the boat ride). But I'd lack the fitness to do it justice
Loved the subtle hidden sentiment in your PSA at the beginning. I’m still chuckling to myself.
Spent 6 days here just before you. Truly magical place and I was lucky enough to have some better weather. The history of the crofts and the indigenous population who left in 1930 is also amazing. You will just have to come back. I'm intending to at some point. BW
Last image is amazing! Quite the adventure!

Fantastic intro. Love the message to the scammers 😂 Looking fwd. To the rest of the video 😊

I prefer the infrared of the island because it's different and more mysterious looking. You encouraged me to pick up an infrared camera last week and enjoying it. thanks
Infrared for me but I love black and white and infrared. What I really like is the sea bird or whatever it is in the lower right. Adds interest.
Thank you for the content, I enjoy this more than watching the telly!. A very FUN video depicting a spot which I will likely never see.
Thank you for bringing us along for your trip to the isle
That acronym during the PSA was brilliant.

Cheers Tom!
just had the biggest hardest laugh I've had in a long time from that intro, was seeing it coming and thought "nah you wouldn't would you" and bust out laughing 😂
Best acronym ever. Great approach to stopping the scammers. I'm now getting funny looks as it was a laugh out loud moment 🤣

Grey, shite weather, love it. welcome back to Scotland, it’s a great country, whatever the weather.
Thank you for taking us to the wild places where the majority of us average people may never have the privilege of going. Hounds of the Baskerville fog? I like the infrared because it is a more compelling image because the way the grass appeared. This video is one of my favorites by you.
When that final T came on screen I nearly spat out my beer. Cheers Thomas!
St. Kilda has been a total bucket list destination for me since I read a book about the last inhabitants of the island over 40 years ago. That said, I know I would have failed to hold on to my breakfast on the boat trip, so I'll save up for the helicopter. 🙂

Man that was quite clever at the beginning hahahahhaha I have to agree with T FUEGO there
Man.. that boat ride alone would've ruled it out for me. Excellent images!
That final image is beautiful. really great.
As a computer programmer, it stuns me a company as big as google / youtube cannot EASILY filter out these scam messages. You basically just wrote the business rules for a bit of code which would do just that! Well done Thomas, if you ever want a career in IT. Jeez oh Tom. When you were showing us your camera/lens collection for the trip, it looked like the bag was teetering 'ont edge of cliff!!😲
Love the IR picture and overall ambiance of the video!!
I like the infrared. The rock island stands out more and I like the contrast better.
Yes I agree here, the infrared is better in my humble opinion. More detail and contrast in the clouds.
