As a real life Railroader and Run8 player no other sim is like it. while the learning curve is steeper then most and it really doesn't hold your hand most players are willing to give you pointers on how best to handle your train. not to mention its a part of a minority of sims that do multiplayer with is a big selling point. the realistic Physics act very similar to real life, minus a couple of items. But there are plenty of servers to get into Major ones such as the Depot or smaller lesser known communities. all in all is a very great sim if you don't care for how shiny the paint looks.

Awesome to see some Run8 content! I think you hit the nail on the head - definitely a sandbox experience. I like to think of it less as a train simulator, and more of a railroading simulator.

Thanks for the video. It may be expensive in total (and they never have sales) but the prices are unchanged since Run 8's inception despite inflation over 12 years. The developers (part of, or associated with, 3D Train Stuff) have been around since at least 2001 when MS Train Simulator released.

Yea I had to buy all the trainset DLC as well and all the routes. The generic skins and locomotives was driving me crazy. The CSX southeast is my favorite region
Been on Run 8 since 2020 and LOVE it!!! CSX Southeast is what I play since I am familiar with the territory

This will probably be the realistic American train simulator, but nothing comes close to ZUSI 3 from Germany. It is a training simulator because you can buy it as a hobby version and it has the same level of realism as the pro version.
ZUSI is also super-realistic, from what I heard, with its "professional version" being used as THE actual simulator for Deutsche Bahn drivers :D
Came here to say this. Zusi IMO has a very slight edge over Run8. It's not a sandbox, everything is "canned" but it's not a cheap scenario-based sim, it's quite immersive. As long as you can understand German that is lol
im more interested in passenger ops specifically Amtrak. Thats the only reason I have never tried to play Run8 as it looks like its more geared to Freight
I would personally not recommend it for passenger ops. But it does have all the amtrak and metrolinl stations, if you want to do that
I used to be a passenger guy on TSW - I liked the shorter scenarios and the constant stop and start gave me something to "do".
Enter Run8 - the sandbox nature means you're not tied down to a set scenario, there's ALWAYS something to do, and freight, especially yard work and locals, is incredibly satisfying to work. I now prefer it to amtrak.

2000's when the game came out, but there is no line really. There is stuff that was built in real life as recently as 2020 on the routes and the devs said that they take liberties. Like adding back abandoned/removed track if it fits right and such as mentioned in thier Los Angeles (San Bernardino Sub) DLC files.
