    If run8 got modern graphics and the hands-on operation style of TSW, all other train sims would go broke overnight

    • @tftrainman
      @tftrainman 9 дней назад +1

      The only reason graphics are the way they are is because run 8 focuses on the experience of running trains realistically, not only that but being able to stitch other routes together for seamless running from one territory to another. The higher the graphics the more the game will require. It made more sense to focus on the realism for operations and details on the locomotives and rolling stock. Don't get me wrong it would be super cool to have all of the above but the devs decided to focus on what most train Sims don't. I've loved run 8 since I first started using it a few years ago.

    I’ve been playing in Run8 for quite a few years now. V3 has a lot of new additions and simulation. Options More “prototypical” air brakes, DPU, derailing, loco failures, air brake failures and quirks (which have already resulted in hot axles for me in just a few hours) btw reset your zoom right alt+down, it’ll get you out of the fisheye zoom out :)
    There’s a difference in right and left ctrl and alt in run8 btw.
    You can also spawn trains for industry using the AI spawner(left shift … F2 I think). Make up a mixed freight tagged for industries, and name the train with a BNSF or UP destination of BAR or WC and Otto will get it into the receiving yard.
    Mouse into the upper left to get the menu up btw (also new for v3)
    Otto is still definitely a bit rough…I can’t seem to convince it to route WB through Barstow reliably for example.
    Driving with the handbrake on will trigger the hot box detectors.
    And blowing a 13000ft train into six parts is pro level knuckle busting (I stepped away for too long and the alerter emergency braked lol)

      Oh and in the F3 dispatch screen you can put switches into manual/direct control by right clicking. BEEEEEWAAAREEEE as this is an escape hatch from Otto too and you can change switches literally underneath a train.

    The correct way to get into the siding is to tone up, from ds menu option, or using the radio, and request mainline authority.

    I'm new to Run8 and am going through the learning process, I hope you keep making videos like this! Completely agree with you about TSW2 and Train Simulator. The only thing thats unfortunate is that the dev team is so small - I would love some more routes, especially in the pacific northwest, lots of great locomotives that could be added to the game as well, but it is a slow drip feed of content compared to the other simulators. The gameplay makes up for it, though

    Thanks dude, great tutorial! You actually showed me a few things that I hadn't learned from other videos. Just like you though, I'm confused as hell with what to do with these retagged cars that are for destinations not in Run8, such as FTW. I've even seen ones tagged for Spokane WA, Chicago IL, etc. What the heck are we supposed to do with them? I've posted my question on The Depot forums, so hopefully some of the veterans will chime in.

    • @ThatMateoGuy
      @ThatMateoGuy  2 года назад

      Those destinations might be on the other routes in Run8, but I don't know yet as I only have the base game routes. Could always retag them to another location and drop them off, or set them on an AI train and roleplay the AI are taking them there.

    • @gyro727
      @gyro727 2 года назад +1

      In The Depot maps section there is a pdf map someone made with destination tags that are outside the map world. You can take the cars, sort them in the rail yard and send them to the end of the map where they disapear. Thats one way to do it.

  • @OverKillPlusOne
    @OverKillPlusOne 2 года назад +1

    FTW is an off route, Fort Worth Texas. You’d send it to the yard, and it’s get made up to go to like BarstO (not owww ;)) which then ends up on another train further along. Send it WB off the map. (AI trains that hit the end of the map get deleted)

    • @OverKillPlusOne
      @OverKillPlusOne 2 года назад

      So for like your DLL cars you’d take them back to Bakersfield, which makes up a M-BAKBAR train from its locals for westbound cars since it probably won’t have enough to send a trail to FTW by itself. At Barstow it’ll go over the hump, classifies into a bowl track with other cars going to FTW or like Galveston (GAL) and then a train is built in the north departure as like M-BARGAL. And once there’s enough sitting to go out power is attached (which has been serviced from the incoming trains) and dispatched out. Similarly new cars for DLL would come from off map, possibly through Barstow with other socal cars, sent from bar to those smaller local yards (Bakersfield, porphyry i think….that might be an LA serviced one, calwa and others I forget) on smaller trains with their other locals. Once at the local yard they make up trains for their locals, shuffling them in order of where the drops are.
      For running locals There’s also have a switching list that auto populates (left ctrl L I think) if your lead unit has the local job as it’s tag. It’ll tell you what’s in your train to drop where and what’s ready for pickup where.

    Not impressed. And not to be too critical, but you spent more time comparing it to another game. And to be fair, that other game has pretty much everything you said it didn't. Sure, Run8 has some advantages, just like TS or TSW2 might have some advantages, but it's all about what you're looking to get out of the game. Most rail sims are train driver games. As such, loading and unloading of cargo is stuff that often takes place behind the scenes when dropping cars which is also what happens in Run8 though I give credit to it for basing the loading/unloading on passage of real-time which could give it an MMORPG feel of an interactive world. That is a cool feature, to be sure. Other games can accomplish the same thing just by using scenarios to drop cars in one, then in another go back and pick them up, etc. Maybe not as immersive, honestly. The popular trucker games just have driver system with it too like most train sims. Point A to Point B to pick up or drop loads and that's it. In real life, most truckers don't load/unload the cargo of the trailers just like most engineers/conductors on trains don't. That's why most rail/truck sims don't include that stuff. Typically, the only ones you will see are ones that are interactive exclusively to the vehicle, such as coal/rock/cement/grain loading/unloading for trains where you drive under the chutes and load the cars manually that way. I'm sure Run8 has that though you didn't show it. Run8 looks good for as long as it has been in work, and to be sure it does have its appeal. I like the pronounced physics and suspension stuff, coupling realism, etc. Just wish it had a more interactive system in working with the train than opening up windows to click buttons or throw switches. I definitely look forward to seeing how they fill out the game as they progress with it. It looks like it can fill a niche than other train sims may not. And that's a good thing for all. Choice and a wide variety of games that appeal to gamers of all types. I'd like to see a review on this that doesn't mention other games. Instead, sell this game rather than implying people should stay away from others. Nothing wrong if someone likes both games. ;-)

  • @tuberoyful
    @tuberoyful 2 года назад +1

    Unloading or loading is easy you just click it and add or subtract the weight.
    1. I don't like this game and I have both V2 and V3 4 - $600 spent between routes and vehicles and $50 for each game it takes days to finish a route FIRST OF ALL and TS and TSW2 are better Derail Valley is another too realistic train game Dovetail and Makoy, Michelle and Jemenie has the best blend for train sims for me I'm sorry we not getting paid to be on a virtual train with actual REAL job hours 🤦🏾

    • @kurtisf3366
      @kurtisf3366 Год назад +6

      To each their own. I found TSW2 to be quite boring. There’s no sense of progress or purpose for me in that game. Run8 gives you something to do (creating trains to service industries), but as you said, it’s a time sink. TSW2 is a game and Run8 is a sim, in a similar way to the Ace Combat games vs MS Flight Sim. The sims aren’t for everyone.
