    I played XC2 first and it was immediately one of my favorite games of all time. After playing XC Definitive, I can see why 2 was kind of an adjustment for people familiar with 1 (the anime silliness, especially), and I can see that XC1 is maybe more focused and restrained. I'm actually happy I played 2 first, so I wasn't judging it based on 1. I think I may like 2 more, just because of the emotional attachment of playing it first. I felt the endings complement each other very nicely in either order, so you can absolutely play 2 first, and personally I felt 2 roped me in to the story much quicker than 1, which I had to push through for a good while until the story finally grabbed me.
    I also feel like underneath the silly parts of 2, the core story is just as good and deep as that of 1, which I think some people didn't stick around to find out.
    But it's all really splitting hairs. They're both excellent games and you could play either one first.

      That’s great to hear, since my friend was giving me 2 to play before I get 1. Just checking tho, you don’t think that the final boss or moments or whatever they are (I heard a bit about them but don’t know the full spoilers so I’m still in the dark lol) are less good without playing 1 first? I’ll still probably play 2 and Torna first, but I do want whatever gives the best experience for these amazing looking games

    • @jackcusumano
      @jackcusumano 3 года назад +4

      @@DavidHosey1 In my opinion the ending of 2 still blew my mind and made total sense on its own, without knowing anything at all about 1. I disagree with OJ here - He suggested reading up on the ending to 1 first if you play 2 first - DON'T do that! The ending will blow your mind if you go into it blind, and it totally works on its own without knowing anything. Playing 1 second was fine, for me, narrative wise. They're ostensibly standalone games in their own worlds, but let's just say there are certain thematic similarities between the 2 stories. But I wouldn't say anything else bc I feel like the more you know the less fun it'll be. Suffice it to say it's totally fine to play 2 first, and please don't look up anything if you can avoid it!

    If you can get past Xenoblade 2’s bad tutorials I think it’s better then 1’s gameplay and has more meaningful side content as a whole, but I do think everyone should play Xenoblade 1, then 2, then Torna the Golden Country. Opinions of how each game’s story plays out is more subjective then the depth of combat, which I agree that Torna has the most compelling gameplay, but story wise not necessarily. Me personally going by story I would rank them Xenoblade 2 > Xenoblade 2: Torna the Golden Country > Xenoblade Definitive Edition > Xenoblade X.
    I’d recommend X to anyone with a WiiU, hopefully we get it on the Switch as I love all the games quite a bit! Thank you for the fun discussion topic OJ!

    • @itouch5VideoBlog
      @itouch5VideoBlog 3 года назад +1

      @@coreyatherley8903 while 2 uses fetch quests quite a bit like the first game, I think 2 had more narrative variety in said side quests. The first game went more overboard with them always having a couple NPC’s in each new area asking you to take care of troublesome monsters and gathering drops for reconstruction. The only somewhat interesting one I can think of off the top of my head because of how drowning it was the menial ones is the fetch quests for the Curry Shop in Colony 9. I know there are a fairly high amount of long and engaging side quests I’m forgetting, but balance wise I think Xenoblade 2 had more variety when it came the NPC quests. On the other hand Blade Charts did require a fair bit of hunting, so though those aren’t NPC quests, you still end up hunting monster about as much I suppose.
      I like what they did with a lot of the Side Quests in the Torna DLC and hope they improve from one main entry to the next. Speaking of quests tho, Xenoblade X I’d say probably has some of the best, but also still has plenty of the generic ones to accompany them. 🙃

    The first Xenoblade is the one that made me fall in love with the series, even in the 240p screen of the Nintendo 3DS I could see how much the plot, the world and the characters were so well thought out I HAD TO stick around;
    Xenoblade X is the one I've probably sunk more hours in, such a massive incredible open world with CRAZY side quests which are the best in the series and the first Xenoblade to have pilotable mechs, which were huge in the xenogears/saga days and I wish we got more of, I need more mechs in future monolith soft games;
    Xenoblade 2 is the last I've played and it won me over easily with a world arguably as beautiful as the first one and awesome characters, a complete overhaul of the combat system which made it feel more of a thing of its own than the other titles and excellent subquests and interesting blades;
    I've yet to play Torna but I can't expect anything less from a team that has delivered time and time again and has easily become my favourite game developer in the industry, so much so I'm planning to play the previous Xeno games whenever I have the chance

      I agree that the combat in 2 is more complex and you can do more strategical moves BUT I think its just far to slow and battles take too long because the design is rooting in this. thats the simple reason why i like XC1 battle system more also the story and the characters are not so super extreme anime clichees

    I do like 2 & Torna a lot as well. 2 I think just did more than it had to, so it was was nice to simplify it. But they were heading in a good direction there.
    X left a bad taste in my mouth, not because of the game but my game pad broke right when I was getting into it and for JRPG I am not a fan of avatar characters (an issue I have with modern FE, they may have story elements to it however it actually takes me out of it a bit, sometimes it feels I am trying to insert myself in a story that is being crafted. Some may like it however with very story driven games I think that is unnecessary)

    Xenoblade Chronicles is in a category of its own to me. . . I pretty much like it more than XCX and XC2 in any measurable aspect; Soundtrack, characters, world, story, gameplay, et cetera. None of it is even close, and Definitive Edition only strengthened these thoughts.
    To each their own, everyone is entitled to their own preferences but I'm not a massive fan of the latter two games as I am to the original. . . To me it's a masterpiece vs. two good games.

      @Nhat Anh Hoang I like all the cast of 2 except for Rex. I legitimately cannot stand him and he has made my 2 playthroughs of 2 way worse. 1 has a cast that to me is perfect. I love all of the main cast. There is never a moment in 1 where I have a complaint about the main cast. The only character I dislike is Juju but I don’t hate him. There are so many times throughout 2 where Rex made me want to stop playing the game and that is a big problem since he is the main character. There are a lot of opinions that I disagree with in the Xenoblade series that I can at least understand and respect. However, I cannot understand or respect how anyone could like Rex

      @Nhat Anh Hoang I never said Rex didn’t have a hard life or that he never had development, and I didn’t even say that I think Shulk had more development than Rex. I said I hate Rex. • @summonbolt0086
      @summonbolt0086 3 года назад

      @Nhat Anh Hoang Yes, really. I love Mythra/Pyra, Nia/Dromarch, Poppi, Morag/Brigid and Zeke/Pandoria. Even Tora is solid and the villains of 2 are great as well. However, I like Melia, Dunban, Reyn, Fiora, Riki and the villains of 1 way more than them and Shulk and Sharla are not far behind. Rex is one of my least favorite characters out of any work of fiction period. I still think Xenoblade 2 is a fantastic game and I think your reasoning behind why you like the cast of two more is fine. I do not agree with it. There is nothing anyone could ever say to make me like any aspect of 2 more than 1. I have heard so many people explain their reasons for it all. The gameplay, the story, the music, the characters, all of it. So many people try to convince or even argue with me to try and change my mind. It will never work. XCDE is my favorite game of all time. It has my favorite story of any work of fiction, not just games, I love the cast with all my heart (Melia fanboy lol), the music is so perfect I have listened to it daily on repeat since 2014, the gameplay to me only has 1 or 2 very small negatives, the art style is beautiful and just everything about it makes me fall more and more in love with it each time I play it (8 times and counting including the times with the wii version). 10/10
    XCX is a good game with an okay story (needs a better ending imo), great gameplay, a solid cast, good art style, amazing music, and while I have only played it once I still love it. I do have several more than minor complaints about it though. Nothing that makes it a bad game but it is significantly worse the XCDE. 9/10
    XC2 is a good game who's story is great once you get to the end of chapter 3 (I very much dislike the story before then), a great cast outside of Rex (this game loses major points from me because of him), amazing music like the other two, gameplay that honestly I think is just okay ( the blades and all their mechanics aren't my cup of tea), and an art style that I think is good but still the worst of the three. I have played this one twice and honestly on my second playthrough I didnt have much fun. I have so many complaints about this one that it just has become my least favorite in the series. 8/10
    Torna is was definitely a surprise for me. I didnt expect to like it as much as I did but turns out that if you remove Rex I just have so much more fun. I also like the modified version of 2s combat that this game has way more than 2. The story is solid, with music on par with that of X and 2, and the same okay art style of 2 makes this one a solid experience. 8.5/10

XB1 is the only one that's actually complete, Gears and Saga weren't finished, X was literally just a 100+hour prologue to a larger story that was cut, and XB2 was rushed and had over half their team pulled to work on BOTW.

      I really wish Nintendo would print more physical copies and just sell them through their online site if retailers aren’t interested in carrying stock anymore. But oh well, I think them doing this would be very unlikely and it’s just crazy how much the physical Xenoblade 2 games have gone up in the second hand market and certainly didn’t expect my 4 North American Special Editions to become this potentially profitable less then 3 & a half years later after release, but I don’t know if I’ll ever sell or trade them since I love this series, I even have one copy of the European Special Edition for Xenoblade 2, which means I have 5 special editions for it in total! I went a bit overboard in my excitement for the game and Best Buy’s Gamers Club made it all the more enticing with savings basically paying for one of the copies alone 😂.

  • @galatoxin
    @galatoxin 3 года назад +1

    XC1 is good for beginners. A very simple combat, pretty simple story that's super easy to follow with some meaty plotwists, a very good english dub, and a pretty alright cast of characters
    XC2 is for those craving for more xeno. The game starts very lighthearted and "anime" but once you reach a certain part of the game it becomes so much thematically darker than the first game. This game topples with many themes such as depression, suicide, nihilism, war, global climate, government corruption, religion, slavery, child abuse, etc. The characters are way more fleshed out in this game, and are actually involved in the plot till the very end. The thing that makes this game feel so slow at the beginning though it's that it has very bad tutorials and they don't explain the complex battle system that well. But once you get a grip of the battle system, it's so addictive.
    so in conclusion, both 1 and 2 are amazing games. XB1 has an easier to follow plot that gets cool plotwists at the end, while XB2 has a more complex and deeper story and relies on you piecing together the story like a puzzle. Heavily recommend starting with XB1 to not get overwhelmed by XB2

    I would break things down by different categories (some of which are far more subjective than others) in terms of ranking the XC games. For me, this is how I would rank all of the games in a bunch of different categories.
    Story: XC1, XC2, Torna, XCX (On its own XC1 probably has the strongest narrative for me)
    Characters: XC2, XC1, Torna, XCX (XC2 has the widest and most diverse cast and each of the main characters have great arcs)
    World: XCX, XC2, XC1, Torna (XCX has the most expansive and open world)
    Gameplay: Torna, XC2, XCX, XC1 (Torna has the most consistently fun and easy to grasp gameplay loop)
    Music: XC1 = XC2, XCX, Torna (XC1 and XC2 have my favorite overall tracks in the series)
    Sidequests: Torna, XC2, XCX, XC1 (Torna's entire narrative is built around how Sidequests affect the world)
    Time Investment: Torna, XCX, XC1, XC2 (Torna is the shortest game and takes the least amount of effort to 100%)
    Pacing: XC1, XCX, XC2, Torna (XC1 has the most consistent pacing in terms of plot escalation)
    Combat Options: XC2, XCX, Torna, XC1 (XC2 has by far the most customization in terms of combat thanks to its various Blades)
    Total Level of Enjoyment: XC2, XC1, Torna, XCX (I am personally drawn most to strong character writing so XC2 is my favorite of the series to this point)

  • @AntonioCunningham
    @AntonioCunningham 3 года назад +1

    My absolute favorite out of the list here is Xenoblade 1. (Doesn't matter if it the definitive edition)
    It has the amazing characters, great storytelling. The gameplay is really good. The sound track is godlike! I'm hard pressed to find any issues that I had with the game. I mean I didn't like the game within the first hour because it wasn't turn based (I bought it because the developers behind it are the same ones behind my personal favorite game of all time Xenogears.) However I was invested into the game after the incident behind leaving colony 9.
    However Xenoblade X is a extremely close second. With the exception of storytelling and sound track, everything was improved. I personally think it has the best gameplay out of the series. Xenoblade 2 gameplay is hampered by its horrible RNG blade system. The only negative thing I can say about Xenoblade X is that it was released on a Nintendo platform. (I personally think it looks better that most Nintendo Switch games)
    I agree that Torna Game is really good! Besides the art direction, it fixed a lot of issues I had with Xenoblade 2. No obnoxious characters, a well polished battle system and no RNG blades.
    I can understand new comers to the Xenoblade series wanting to start with Xenoblade 2 because of the Smash DLC characters, but I highly recommend playing Xenoblade 1 first.

    • @AntonioCunningham
      @AntonioCunningham 3 года назад

      @Nhat Anh Hoang That's possible, but Xenoblade X had skells were 2 didn't. Xenoblade 1 had an amazing story where 2....not so much. 2 was the weak link in my opinion. It felt far way from Xenogears than any Xenoblade or Xenosaga game.
      If it wasn't for the music of Xenoblade 2, I would have stopped playing in chapter 3 because the art style just took me out of the game. I *never* thought art style could negatively effect a game til Xenoblade 2.
      Oops, I didn't mean to go on a rant about the issues I had with Xenoblade 2. I'm aware some people like this. A different art style, no RNG blade system and a better protagonist would fix all of my issues. (With the exception of art style, Torna fixed all of my issues)
      I'm grateful for all those who liked Xenoblade 2. It means the series will continue on. I see that as a win.

    • @AntonioCunningham
      @AntonioCunningham 3 года назад

      @Nhat Anh Hoang i disagree what virtually everything you just wrote here.
      I'll agree Xenoblade 2 has a more flushed out story than X, but it's nowhere near as good as Xenoblade 1 and it doesn't have the horrible art style holding it back.
      As far as combat, 2 was the worst out of the bunch. Its too cluttered, limited since getting blades were a nightmare. The tutorials for Xenoblade two were terrible (another thing Torna did right)
      While the first Xenoblade combat was on the simple side, Xenoblade 2 was too busy and complicated. Xenoblade X combat was a mix of both. It can be simple, but doing character quest and the customization opens up *so much* . I've had more fun playing X than both Xenoblade 1 and 2. And all of this isn't including the Skells. That alone puts it above both Xenoblade 1 and 2.
      I have no problem saying Xenoblade X story isn't the best or the game has flaws, but it's story even though incomplete is more engaging than Xenoblade 2. That art style just killed most of the emotional scenes and ruined the impact for me.
      Xenoblade 1 has the least amont of issues and does just about everything right.
      Xenoblade X have a few issues, but the gameplay, exploration makes up for its downfalls
      Xenoblade 2 has far too many issues. If i didn't have such a love of the Xeno series and the music wasn't as good as it was, I would have stopped playing by Chapter 3. The art style is that bad! This would have been the first Xeno game I couldn't complete.
      Torna was a vast improvement over 2. Better characters overall, good character development, a polish combat system, *no RNG blade system!* If Xenoblade 2 played like Torna, have Lara as the main character than Rex, no stupid loot box blades, I would have rated it *much* higher in my list of games I enjoy
      I'm in the camp where I enjoyed Xenosage 2. I hated Shion in Xenosage 1 but got though the game because I'm a fan on the directors. Xenosaga 2 wasn't foucing on Shion so it was a vast improvement it was the first game I played that I cares so much about the story that I was trying to skip the gameplay. (Weird, I know)
      With all that said, Xenosaga 3 was sooo good! Its one of my favorite games overall. Even Shion was great in it! The only criticism I can come up with is the game felt rushed towards the end because the series was sadly canceled.
      To sum up. I love Xenoblale 1 over all the Xenoblade games, but I had more fun with Xenoblade X. Xenoblade 2 had far too many issues for me. That art style is just so bad that I finally can relate to those who can't play games that don't visually appeal to them. That soundtrack got me though visual my dealbreaker moments.

    • @AntonioCunningham
      @AntonioCunningham 3 года назад +1

      @Nhat Anh Hoang It sounds like you're only defending a game because someone has a different opinion than yourself. Rex felt like he didn't develop into a decent character. Those around him did. (I liked alot of the Nia stuff that was some good character development) but not him. He still felt like a child I couldn't relate to at the end. Lora didn't have this problem in Torna.
      I also didn't like the Rex Pyra relationship crap. That felt like pedolite bait. (Technically Hepohaiila) A grown woman hitting on a kid? That's cringry to me. I just couldn't accept this, thus there couldn't be any immersion. Without immersion into a game, I can't pickup on subtle ques not being told directly in the story. Xenoblade 1 was extremely good at this.
      For clarity, *I'm not saying those who like Xenoblade 2 are bad people or have horrible tastes* just that I personally have issues with the game.
      It was one of my biggest fears of the Monolith Soft team being effected by the Nintendo buyout. Nintendo have the representation on kidding up IPs they buy or use. That's exactly what they did to Xenoblade 2.

    • @AntonioCunningham
      @AntonioCunningham 3 года назад

      @Nhat Anh Hoang Thank you for proving my point. No matter what I say, you will blindly support Xenoblade 2. I didn't expect to to share spoilers so I won't touch that.(even though I can point to a few actions that backs up why I still felt he was childish/immature during this area and the boss fight.... And I know things is unrelated, but I did enjoy the final area) But I was talking specifically about the Xeno series since that's the one I care the most about. (That and Final Fantasy. I had to drop Suikoden because of how bad Suikoden 5 was and Dropped Breath of fire because of Dragon Quater)
      I'm gonna ignore the Loli argument because I don't think you realise what you're arguing for (hint it's the same argument Pedos make)
      You say I'm ignoring Rex character moments, but I think you're not understanding what I'm saying since I'm doing my best to avoid spoilers.
      Remember when I brought up chapter 3? It had an emotional portion at the end. I *could not* get anything from said emotional scene because of the art style. If it wasn't for the music, I wouldn't have figured out what they were trying on convey to the audience. It was that bad for me.
      Again just incase it was missed, acknowledge that Xenoblade 2 has a complete story. Meaning its more story focued than Xenoblade X. However Xenoblade X incomplete story was better to me because many of the issues holding Xenoblade 2 story backs isn't in the way of the Xenoblade X story.
